¹⁶ `Woe to you, blind guides, who are saying, Whoever may swear by the sanctuary, it is nothing, but whoever may swear by the gold of the sanctuary—is debtor!

¹⁰ Blind are his watchmen—all of them, They have not known, All of them are dumb dogs, they are not able to bark, Dozing, lying down, loving to slumber. ¹¹ And the dogs are strong of desire, They have not known sufficiency, And they are shepherds! They have not known understanding, All of them to their own way they did turn, Each to his dishonest gain from his quarter:

³³ `Again, ye heard that it was said to the ancients: Thou shalt not swear falsely, but thou shalt pay to the Lord thine oaths; ³⁴ but I—I say to you, not to swear at all; neither by the heaven, because it is the throne of God, ³⁵ nor by the earth, because it is His footstool, nor by Jerusalem, because it is a city of a great king,

⁵ but ye say, Whoever may say to father or mother, An offering is whatever thou mayest be profited by me; — ⁶ and he may not honour his father or his mother, and ye did set aside the command of God because of your tradition.

¹⁴ let them alone, guides they are—blind of blind; and if blind may guide blind, both into a ditch shall fall.'

¹⁷ Fools and blind! for which is greater, the gold, or the sanctuary that is sanctifying the gold?

¹⁹ Fools and blind! for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that is sanctifying the gift?

²⁴ `Blind guides! who are straining out the gnat, and the camel are swallowing.

²⁶ `Blind Pharisee! cleanse first the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside of them also may become clean.

¹⁰ for Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, He who is speaking evil of father or mother—let him die the death; ¹¹ and ye say, If a man may say to father or to mother, Korban (that is, a gift), is whatever thou mayest be profited out of mine, ¹² and no more do ye suffer him to do anything for his father or for his mother, ¹³ setting aside the word of God for your tradition that ye delivered; and many such like things ye do.'

³⁹ And Jesus said, `For judgment I to this world did come, that those not seeing may see, and those seeing may become blind.' <sup>40</sup> And those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and they said to him, `Are we also blind?' ⁴¹ Jesus said to them, `If ye were blind, ye were not having had sin, but now ye say—We see, therefore doth your sin remain.

³ and I testify again to every man circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law;

¹² And before all things, my brethren, do not swear, neither by the heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath, and let your Yes be Yes, and the No, No; that under judgment ye may not fall.
