¹⁷ They have surrounded me as waters all the day, They have gone round against me together,

¹² At ease I have been, and he breaketh me, And he hath laid hold on my neck, And he breaketh me in pieces, And he raiseth me to him for a mark. ¹³ Go round against me do his archers. He splitteth my reins, and spareth not, He poureth out to the earth my gall.

¹⁴ As a wide breach they come, Under the desolation have rolled themselves.
¹⁵ He hath turned against me terrors, It pursueth as the wind mine abundance, And as a thick cloud, Hath my safety passed away.

¹⁶ And to the dust of death thou appointest me, For surrounded me have dogs, A company of evil doers have compassed me, Piercing my hands and my feet.

⁷ Deep unto deep is calling At the noise of Thy water-spouts, All Thy breakers and Thy billows passed over me.

⁵ He hath built up against me, And setteth round poverty and weariness. ⁶ In dark places He hath caused me to dwell, As the dead of old. ⁷ He hath hedged me about, and I go not out, He hath made heavy my fetter.

³⁹ and those passing by were speaking evil of him, wagging their heads, ⁴⁰ and saying, `Thou that art throwing down the sanctuary, and in three days building it, save thyself; if Son thou art of God, come down from the cross.' <sup>41</sup> And in like manner also the chief priests mocking, with the scribes and elders, said, <sup>42</sup> `Others he saved; himself he is not able to save!
