Judges 19

  1 H3117 And it came to pass in those days, H4428 when there was no king H3478 in Israel, H376 that there was a certain H3881 Levite H1481 [H8802] dwelling H3411 on the side H2022 of mount H669 Ephraim, H3947 [H8799] who took H802 H6370 to him a concubine H1035 H3063 out of Bethlehemjudah.

  2 H6370 And his concubine H2181 [H8799] played the harlot H3212 [H8799] against him, and went away H1 from him to her father's H1004 house H1035 H3063 to Bethlehemjudah, H702 and was there four H2320 H3117 whole months.

  3 H9001 And H9024 her H376 husband H6965 [H8799] arose, H9001 and H3212 [H8799] went H310 after H9034 her, H9005 to H1696 [H8763] speak H5921 to H9024 her H3820 heart, H7725 [H8687] and to bring her again, H9023 having his H5288 servant H5973 with H9033 him, H9002 and H6776 a couple H2543 of donkeys: H9001 and H935 [H8686] she brought H9033 him H9024 into her H1 father's H1004 house: H9001 and H1 when the father H9009 of the H5291 damsel H7200 [H8799] saw H9033 him, H9001 he H8055 [H8799] rejoiced H9005 to H7125 [H8800] meet H9033 him.

  4 H2859 [H8802] And his father in law, H5291 the damsel's H1 father, H2388 [H8686] detained H3427 [H8799] him; and he abode H7969 with him three H3117 days: H398 [H8799] so they ate H8354 [H8799] and drank, H3885 [H8799] and lodged there.

  5 H7243 And it came to pass on the fourth H3117 day, H7925 [H8686] when they arose early H1242 in the morning, H6965 [H8799] that he arose H3212 [H8800] to depart: H5291 and the damsel's H1 father H559 [H8799] said H2860 to his son in law, H5582 [H8798] Support H3820 thine heart H6595 with a morsel H3899 of bread, H310 and afterward H3212 [H8799] depart.

  6 H3427 [H8799] And they sat down, H398 [H8799] and ate H8354 [H8799] and drank H8147 both H3162 of them together: H5291 for the damsel's H1 father H559 [H8799] had said H376 to the man, H2974 [H8685] Be content, H3885 [H8798] I pray thee, and tarry all night, H3820 and let thine heart H3190 [H8799] be merry.

  7 H376 And when the man H6965 [H8799] rose H3212 [H8800] to depart, H2859 [H8802] his father in law H6484 [H8799] urged H3885 [H8799] him: therefore he lodged H7725 [H8799] there again.

  8 H7925 [H8686] And he arose early H1242 in the morning H2549 on the fifth H3117 day H3212 [H8800] to depart: H5291 and the damsel's H1 father H559 [H8799] said, H5582 [H8798] Support H3824 thine heart, H4102 [H8701] I pray thee. And they tarried H3117 H5186 [H8800] until afternoon, H398 [H8799] and they ate H8147 both of them.

  9 H376 And when the man H6965 [H8799] arose H3212 [H8800] to depart, H6370 he, and his concubine, H5288 and his servant, H2859 [H8802] his father in law, H5291 the damsel's H1 father, H559 [H8799] said H3117 to him, Behold, now the day H7503 [H8804] draweth H6150 [H8800] toward evening, H3885 [H8798] I pray you tarry all night: H3117 behold, the day H2583 [H8800] is coming to an end, H3885 [H8798] lodge H3824 here, that thy heart H3190 [H8799] may be merry; H4279 and to morrow H7925 [H8689] get you early H1870 on your way, H1980 [H8804] that thou mayest go H168 home.

  10 H376 But the man H14 [H8804] would H3885 [H8800] not tarry that night, H6965 [H8799] but he arose H3212 [H8799] and departed, H935 [H8799] and came H5227 opposite H2982 Jebus, H3389 which is Jerusalem; H6776 and there were with him two H2543 donkeys H2280 [H8803] saddled, H6370 his concubine also was with him.

  11 H2982 And when they were by Jebus, H3117 the day H3966 was far H7286 [H8804] spent; H5288 and the servant H559 [H8799] said H113 to his master, H3212 [H8798] Come, H5493 [H8799] I pray thee, and let us turn in H5892 to this city H2983 of the Jebusites, H3885 [H8799] and lodge in it.

  12 H113 And his master H559 [H8799] said H5493 [H8799] to him, We will not turn aside H5892 here into the city H5237 of a foreigner, H1121 that is not of the sons H3478 of Israel; H5674 [H8804] we will pass over H1390 to Gibeah.

  13 H559 [H8799] And he said H5288 to his servant, H3212 [H8798] Come, H7126 [H8799] and let us draw near H259 to one H4725 of these places H3885 [H8804] to lodge all night, H1390 in Gibeah, H7414 or in Ramah.

  14 H5674 [H8799] And they passed on H3212 [H8799] and went their way; H8121 and the sun H935 [H8799] went down H681 upon them when they were by H1390 Gibeah, H1144 which belongeth to Benjamin.

  15 H5493 [H8799] And they turned aside H935 [H8800] there, to go in H3885 [H8800] and to lodge H1390 in Gibeah: H935 [H8799] and when he went in, H3427 [H8799] he sat down H7339 in a street H5892 of the city: H376 for there was no man H622 [H8764] that took H1004 them into his house H3885 [H8800] to lodge.

  16 H935 [H8804] And, behold, there came H2205 an old H376 man H4639 from his work H7704 out of the field H6153 at evening, H376 who was also H2022 of mount H669 Ephraim; H1481 [H8804] and he dwelt H1390 in Gibeah: H582 but the men H4725 of the place H1145 were Benjamites.

  17 H5375 [H8799] And when he had lifted up H5869 his eyes, H7200 [H8799] he saw H732 [H8802] a wayfaring H376 man H7339 in the street H5892 of the city: H2205 and the old H376 man H559 [H8799] said, H3212 [H8799] Where goest H370 thou? and where H935 [H8799] do you come from?

  18 H559 [H8799] And he said H5674 [H8802] to him, We are passing H1035 H3063 from Bethlehemjudah H3411 toward the side H2022 of mount H669 Ephraim; H3212 [H8799] from there am I: and I went H1035 H3063 to Bethlehemjudah, H1980 [H8802] but I am now going H1004 to the house H3068 of the LORD; H376 and there is no man H622 [H8764] that receiveth H1004 me into his house.

  19 H3426 Yet there is H8401 both straw H4554 and fodder H2543 for our donkeys; H3899 and there is bread H3196 and wine H519 also for me, and for thy handmaid, H5288 and for the young man H5650 which is with thy servants: H4270 there is no want H1697 of any thing.

  20 H2205 And the old H376 man H559 [H8799] said, H7965 Peace H7535 be with thee; however H4270 let all thy wants H3885 [H8799] lie upon me; only lodge H7339 not in the street.

  21 H935 [H8686] So he brought H1004 him into his house, H1101 [H8799] and gave fodder H2543 to the donkeys: H7364 [H8799] and they washed H7272 their feet, H398 [H8799] and ate H8354 [H8799] and drank.

  22 H3820 Now as they were making their hearts H3190 [H8688] merry, H582 behold, the men H5892 of the city, H582 certain H1100 worthless H1121 men, H5437 0 beset H1004 the house H5437 [H8738] on all sides, H1849 [H8693] and beat H1817 at the door, H559 [H8799] and spoke H1167 to the master H1004 of the house, H2205 the old H376 man, H559 [H8800] saying, H3318 [H8685] Bring forth H376 the man H935 [H8804] that came H1004 into thy house, H3045 [H8799] that we may know him.

  23 H376 And the man, H1167 the master H1004 of the house, H3318 [H8799] went out H559 [H8799] to them, and said H408 to them, Nay, H251 my brethren, H7489 [H8686] nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; H310 seeing H376 that this man H935 [H8804] is come H1004 into my house, H6213 [H8799] do H5039 not this folly.

  24 H1323 Behold, here is my daughter H1330 a virgin, H6370 and his concubine; H3318 [H8686] them I will bring out H6031 [H8761] now, and humble H6213 [H8798] ye them, and do H5869 with them what seemeth H2896 good H376 to you: but to this man H6213 [H8799] do H2063 not so H5039 vile H1697 a thing.

  25 H582 But the men H14 [H8804] would H8085 [H8800] not hearken H376 to him: so the man H2388 [H8686] took H6370 his concubine, H3318 [H8686] and brought H2351 her forth H3045 [H8799] to them; and they knew H5953 [H8691] her, and abused H3915 her all the night H1242 until the morning: H7837 and when the day H5927 [H8800] began to spring, H7971 [H8762] they let her go.

  26 H935 [H8799] Then came H802 the woman H6437 [H8800] in the dawning H1242 of the day, H5307 [H8799] and fell down H6607 at the door H376 of the man's H1004 house H113 where her sovereign H216 was, till it was light.

  27 H113 And her sovereign H6965 [H8799] rose H1242 in the morning, H6605 [H8799] and opened H1817 the doors H1004 of the house, H3318 [H8799] and went out H3212 [H8800] to go H1870 his way: H802 and, behold, the woman H6370 his concubine H5307 [H8802] had fallen down H6607 at the door H1004 of the house, H3027 and her hands H5592 were upon the threshold.

  28 H559 [H8799] And he said H6965 [H8798] to her, Rise, H3212 [H8799] and let us be going. H6030 [H8802] But none answered. H376 Then the man H3947 [H8799] took H2543 her upon a donkey, H376 and the man H6965 [H8799] rose, H3212 [H8799] and went H4725 to his place.

  29 H935 [H8799] And when he was come H1004 into his house, H3947 [H8799] he took H3979 a knife, H2388 [H8686] and laid hold H6370 on his concubine, H5408 [H8762] and divided H6106 her, with her bones, H8147 H6240 into twelve H5409 pieces, H7971 [H8762] and sent H1366 her into all the land H3478 of Israel.

  30 H1961 [H8738] And it was so, H7200 [H8802] that all that saw H559 [H8804] it said, H2063 There hath been no such deed H7200 [H8738] done nor seen H3117 from the day H1121 that the sons H3478 of Israel H5927 [H8800] came H776 from the land H4714 of Egypt H3117 to this day: H7760 [H8798] consider H5779 [H8798] of it, take advice, H1696 [H8761] and speak your minds.
