H7378 [H8799] And they did contend H2394 with him sharply.
  2 H559 [H8799] And he said H6213 [H8804] to them, What have I done H5955 now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning H669 of the grapes of Ephraim H2896 better H1210 than the vintage H44 of Abiezer?
  3 H430 God H5414 [H8804] hath given H3027 into your hands H8269 the princes H4080 of Midian, H6159 Oreb H2062 and Zeeb: H3201 [H8804] and what was I able H6213 [H8800] to do H1697 in comparison of you? Then, when he had said H1696 [H8763] that, H7307 their spirit H7503 [H8804] toward him abated.
  4 H1439 And Gideon H935 [H8799] came H3383 to Jordan, H5674 [H8802] and passed over, H7969 he, and the three H3967 hundred H376 men H5889 that were with him, faint, H7291 [H8802] yet pursuing them.
  5 H559 [H8799] And he said H582 to the men H5523 of Succoth, H5414 [H8798] Give, H3603 I pray you, loaves H3899 of bread H5971 to the people H7272 that follow H5889 me; for they are faint, H7291 H310 [H8802] and I am pursuing H2078 Zebah H6759 and Zalmunna, H4428 kings H4080 of Midian.
  6 H8269 And the princes H5523 of Succoth H559 [H8799] said, H3709 Are the palms H2078 of Zebah H6759 and Zalmunna H3027 now in thine hand, H5414 [H8799] that we should give H3899 bread H6635 to thy army?
  7 H1439 And Gideon H559 [H8799] said, H3068 Therefore when the LORD H5414 [H8800] hath given H2078 Zebah H6759 and Zalmunna H3027 into my hand, H1758 [H8804] then I will tear H1320 your flesh H6975 with the thorns H4057 of the wilderness H1303 and with briers.
  8 H5927 [H8799] And he went up H6439 from there to Penuel, H1696 [H8762] and spoke H2063 to them likewise: H582 and the men H6439 of Penuel H6030 [H8799] answered H582 him as the men H5523 of Succoth H6030 [H8804] had answered him.
  9 H559 [H8799] And he spoke H582 also to the men H6439 of Penuel, H559 [H8800] saying, H7725 [H8800] When I come again H7965 in peace, H5422 [H8799] I will break down H4026 this tower.
  10 H2078 Now Zebah H6759 and Zalmunna H7174 were in Karkor, H4264 and their hosts H2568 H6240 with them, about fifteen H505 thousand H3498 [H8737] men, all that were left H4264 of all the hosts H1121 of the sons H6924 of the east: H5307 [H8802] for there fell H3967 an hundred H6242 and twenty H505 thousand H376 men H8025 [H8802] that drew H2719 sword.
  11 H1439 And Gideon H5927 [H8799] went up H1870 by the way H7931 [H8803] of them that dwelt H168 in tents H6924 on the east H5025 of Nobah H3011 and Jogbehah, H5221 [H8686] and smote H4264 the host: H4264 for the host H983 was safe.
  12 H2078 And when Zebah H6759 and Zalmunna H5127 [H8799] fled, H7291 H310 [H8799] he pursued H3920 [H8799] them, and took H8147 the two H4428 kings H4080 of Midian, H2078 Zebah H6759 and Zalmunna, H2729 [H8689] and overcame H4264 all the host.
  13 H1439 And Gideon H1121 the son H3101 of Joash H7725 [H8799] returned H4421 from battle H4608 before H2775 the sun had risen,
  14 H3920 [H8799] And caught H5288 a young man H582 of the men H5523 of Succoth, H7592 [H8799] and enquired H3789 [H8799] of him: and he described H8269 for him the princes H5523 of Succoth, H2205 and its elders, H7657 even seventy H7651 and seven H376 men.
  15 H935 [H8799] And he came H582 to the men H5523 of Succoth, H559 [H8799] and said, H2078 Behold Zebah H6759 and Zalmunna, H2778 [H8765] with whom ye upbraided H559 [H8800] me, saying, H3709 Are the palms H2078 of Zebah H6759 and Zalmunna H3027 now in thine hand, H5414 [H8799] that we should give H3899 bread H582 to thy men H3287 that are weary?
  16 H3947 [H8799] And he took H2205 the elders H5892 of the city, H6975 and thorns H4057 of the wilderness H1303 and briers, H3045 [H8686] and with them he taught H582 the men H5523 of Succoth.
  17 H5422 [H8804] And he beat down H4026 the tower H6439 of Penuel, H2026 [H8799] and slew H582 the men H5892 of the city.
  18 H559 [H8799] Then said H2078 he to Zebah H6759 and Zalmunna, H375 What H582 manner of men H2026 [H8804] were they whom ye slew H8396 at Tabor? H559 [H8799] And they answered, H3644 As thou H259 art, so were they; each one H8389 resembled H1121 the sons H4428 of a king.
  19 H559 [H8799] And he said, H251 They were my brethren, H1121 even the sons H517 of my mother: H3068 as the LORD H2416 liveth, H3863 if H2421 [H8689] ye had saved them alive, H2026 [H8804] I would not slay you.
  20 H559 [H8799] And he said H3500 to Jether H1060 his firstborn, H6965 [H8798] Arise, H2026 [H8798] and slay H5288 them. But the youth H8025 [H8804] drew H2719 not his sword: H3372 [H8804] for he feared, H5288 because he was yet a youth.
  21 H2078 Then Zebah H6759 and Zalmunna H559 [H8799] said, H6965 [H8798] Rise H6293 [H8798] thou, and fall H376 upon us: for as the man H1369 is, so is his strength. H1439 And Gideon H6965 [H8799] arose, H2026 [H8799] and slew H2078 Zebah H6759 and Zalmunna, H3947 [H8799] and took away H7720 the ornaments H1581 that were on their camels' H6677 necks.
  22 H376 Then the men H3478 of Israel H559 [H8799] said H1439 to Gideon, H4910 [H8798] Rule H1121 thou over us, both thou, and thy son, H1121 and thy son's H1121 son H3467 [H8689] also: for thou hast liberated H3027 us from the hand H4080 of Midian.
  23 H1439 And Gideon H559 [H8799] said H4910 [H8799] to them, I will not rule H1121 over you, neither shall my son H4910 [H8799] rule H3068 over you: the LORD H4910 [H8799] shall rule over you.
  24 H1439 And Gideon H559 [H8799] said H7592 [H8799] to them, I would desire H7596 a request H5414 [H8798] of you, that you would give H376 me every man H5141 the earrings H7998 of his spoil. H2091 (For they had golden H5141 earrings, H3459 because they were Ishmaelites.)
  25 H559 [H8799] And they answered, H5414 [H8800] We will willingly H5414 [H8799] give H6566 [H8799] them. And they spread H8071 a garment, H7993 [H8686] and cast H376 into it every man H5141 the earrings H7998 of his spoil.
  26 H4948 And the weight H2091 of the golden H5141 earrings H7592 [H8804] that he requested H505 was a thousand H7651 and seven H3967 hundred H2091 shekels of gold; H7720 besides ornaments, H5188 and collars, H713 and purple H899 raiment H4428 that was on the kings H4080 of Midian, H6060 and besides the chains H1581 that were about their camels' H6677 necks.
  27 H1439 And Gideon H6213 [H8799] made H646 of it an ephod, H3322 [H8686] and put H5892 it in his city, H6084 even in Ophrah: H3478 and all Israel H2181 H310 [H8799] went there playing the harlot with H4170 it: which thing became a snare H1439 to Gideon, H1004 and to his house.
  28 H4080 Thus was Midian H3665 [H8735] subdued H6440 at the face of H1121 the sons H3478 of Israel, H5375 [H8800] so that they raised H7218 their heads H3254 [H8804] no more. H776 And the land H8252 [H8799] was in quietness H705 forty H8141 years H3117 in the days H1439 of Gideon.
  29 H3378 And Jerubbaal H1121 the son H3101 of Joash H3212 [H8799] went H3427 [H8799] and dwelt H1004 in his own house.
  30 H1439 And Gideon H7657 had seventy H1121 sons H3409 of his thigh H3318 [H8802] begotten: H7227 for he had many H802 wives.
  31 H6370 And his concubine H7927 that was in Shechem, H3205 [H8804] she also bore H1121 him a son, H8034 whose name H7760 [H8799] he called H40 Abimelech.
  32 H1439 And Gideon H1121 the son H3101 of Joash H4191 [H8799] died H2896 in a good H7872 old age, H6912 [H8735] and was buried H6913 in the burying-place H3101 of Joash H1 his father, H6084 in Ophrah H33 of the Abiezrites.
  33 H1439 And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon H4191 [H8804] was dead, H1121 that the sons H3478 of Israel H7725 [H8799] turned again, H2181 H310 [H8799] and went playing the harlot with H1168 Baalim, H7760 [H8799] and made H1170 Baalberith H430 their god.
  34 H1121 And the sons H3478 of Israel H2142 [H8804] remembered H3068 not the LORD H430 their God, H5337 [H8688] who had delivered H3027 them from the hands H341 [H8802] of all their enemies H5439 on every side:
  35 H6213 [H8804] Neither showed H2617 they mercy H1004 to the house H3378 of Jerubbaal, H1439 namely, Gideon, H2896 according to all the goodness H6213 [H8804] which he had shown H3478 to Israel.
