¹ Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. ² And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. ³ And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. ⁴ These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, ⁵ And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. ⁶ But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. ⁷ And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. ⁸ And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. ⁹ And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the middle of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. ¹⁰ And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it was parted, and became into four heads. ¹¹ The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasses the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; ¹² And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. ¹³ And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasses the whole land of Ethiopia. ¹⁴ And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goes toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. ¹⁵ And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. ¹⁶ And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat: ¹⁷ But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die. ¹⁸ And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. ¹⁹ And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them: and whatever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. ²⁰ And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. ²¹ And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; ²² And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her to the man. ²³ And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. ²⁴ Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall join to his wife: and they shall be one flesh. ²⁵ And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

⁴⁴ So shall I keep your law continually for ever and ever. ⁴⁵ And I will walk at liberty: for I seek your precepts. ⁴⁶ I will speak of your testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed. ⁴⁷ And I will delight myself in your commandments, which I have loved.

⁴ But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. ⁵ And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. ⁶ The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatted calf together; and a little child shall lead them. ⁷ And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. ⁸ And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. ⁹ They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. ¹⁰ And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. ¹¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. ¹² And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

¹ My son, forget not my law; but let your heart keep my commandments: ² For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to you.

¹ As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honor is not seemly for a fool. ² As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come. ³ A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back. ⁴ Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like to him. ⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit. ⁶ He that sends a message by the hand of a fool cuts off the feet, and drinks damage. ⁷ The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools. ⁸ As he that binds a stone in a sling, so is he that gives honor to a fool. ⁹ As a thorn goes up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouths of fools. ¹⁰ The great God that formed all things both rewards the fool, and rewards transgressors. ¹¹ As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool returns to his folly. ¹² See you a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him. ¹³ The slothful man said, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. ¹⁴ As the door turns on his hinges, so does the slothful on his bed. ¹⁵ The slothful hides his hand in his bosom; it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth. ¹⁶ The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason. ¹⁷ He that passes by, and meddles with strife belonging not to him, is like one that takes a dog by the ears. ¹⁸ As a mad man who casts firebrands, arrows, and death, ¹⁹ So is the man that deceives his neighbor, and said, Am not I in sport? ²⁰ Where no wood is, there the fire goes out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceases. ²¹ As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife. ²² The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. ²³ Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross. ²⁴ He that hates dissembles with his lips, and lays up deceit within him; ²⁵ When he speaks fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be showed before the whole congregation. ²⁷ Whoever digs a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolls a stone, it will return on him. ²⁸ A lying tongue hates those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth works ruin.

²¹ Not every one that said to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. ²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out devils? and in your name done many wonderful works? ²³ And then will I profess to them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.

²⁷ And he said to them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

²⁶ I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beats the air:

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

²⁴ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

¹¹ Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. ¹² For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. ¹³ Why take to you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. ¹⁴ Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; ¹⁵ And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; ¹⁶ Above all, taking the shield of faith, with which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. ¹⁷ And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: ¹⁸ Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

¹⁵ Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

¹⁴ For the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered to them his goods. ¹⁵ And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. ¹⁶ Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. ¹⁷ And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. ¹⁸ But he that had received one went and dig in the earth, and hid his lord's money. ¹⁹ After a long time the lord of those servants comes, and reckons with them. ²⁰ And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, you delivered to me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. ²¹ His lord said to him, Well done, you good and faithful servant: you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter you into the joy of your lord. ²² He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, you delivered to me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. ²³ His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter you into the joy of your lord. ²⁴ Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew you that you are an hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not strewed: ²⁵ And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the earth: see, there you have that is yours. ²⁶ His lord answered and said to him, You wicked and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strewed: ²⁷ You ought therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received my own with usury. ²⁸ Take therefore the talent from him, and give it to him which has ten talents. ²⁹ For to every one that has shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that has not shall be taken away even that which he has. ³⁰ And cast you the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: ⁷ Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, ⁸ Provides her meat in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. ⁹ How long will you sleep, O sluggard? when will you arise out of your sleep? ¹⁰ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ¹¹ So shall your poverty come as one that travels, and your want as an armed man.

²⁵ The desire of the slothful kills him; for his hands refuse to labor.

⁴ He becomes poor that deals with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent makes rich. ⁵ He that gathers in summer is a wise son: but he that sleeps in harvest is a son that causes shame.

⁴ The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

⁹ He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
