⁹ And Leah saw that she ceased from bearing, and she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her to Jacob for a wife; and he went in to her.

⁴ And she gave him Bilhah her maid, for a wife to him; and Jacob went in to her.

¹ And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses, because of the Ethiopian woman whom Moses took; for he had taken an Ethiopian woman.

⁵ And if brothers should live together, and one of them should die, and should not have seed, the wife of the deceased shall not marry out of the family to a man not related: her husband's brother shall go in to her, and shall take her to himself for a wife, and shall dwell with her. ⁶ And it shall come to pass that the child which she shall bear, shall be named by the name of the deceased, and his name shall not be blotted out of Israel. ⁷ And if the man should not be willing to take his brother's wife, then shall the woman go up to the gate to the elders, and she shall say, My husband's brother will not raise up the name of his brother in Israel, my husband's brother has refused. ⁸ And the elders of his city shall call him, and speak to him; and if he stand and say, I will not take her, ⁹ then his brother's wife shall come forward before the elders, and shall loose one shoe from off his foot, and shall spit in his face, and shall answer and say, Thus shall they do to the man who will not build his brother's house in Israel. ¹⁰ And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that has had his shoe loosed.

¹⁴ And when you shall enter into the land which the Lord your God gives you, and shall inherit it and dwell in it, and shall say, I will set a ruler over me, as also the other nations round about me; ¹⁵ you shall surely set over you the ruler whom the Lord God shall choose: of your brothers you shall set over you a ruler; you shall not have power to set over you a stranger, because he is not your brother. ¹⁶ For he shall not multiply to himself horses, and he shall by no means turn the people back to Egypt, lest he should multiply to himself horses; for the Lord said, You shall not return that way again. ¹⁷ And he shall not multiply to himself wives, lest his heart turn away; and he shall not greatly multiply to himself silver and gold. ¹⁸ And when he shall be established in his government, then shall he write for himself this repetition of the law into a book by the hands of the priests the Levites; ¹⁹ and it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord your God, and to keep all these commandments, and to observe these ordinances; ²⁰ that his heart be not lifted up above his brothers, that he depart not from the commandments on the right hand or on the left; that he and his sons may reign long in his dominion among the children of Israel.

¹³ And David took again wives and concubines out of Jerusalem, after he came from Hebron: and David had still more sons and daughters born to him.

¹ There was a man of Ramathaim Zophim, of Mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, a son of Jeroham, the son of Elias, the son of Tohu, in Nasib Ephraim. ² And he had two wives; the name of the one was Anna, and the name of the second was Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Anna had no child.

¹ And King Solomon was a lover of women. And he took strange women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh, Moabite and Ammonite women, Syrians and Edomites, Hittites and Amorites; ² of the nations concerning whom the Lord forbade the children of Israel, saying, You shall not go in to them, and they shall not come in to you, lest they turn away your hearts after their idols; Solomon clung to these in love. ³ And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines. And the strange women turned away his heart after their gods. ⁴ And it came to pass in the time of Solomon's old age, that his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.

⁵ And Ashur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah and Naarah.

³ And Jehoiada took to himself two wives, and they bore sons and daughters.

¹ And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ² Son of man, there were two women, daughters of one mother: ³ and they went a-whoring in Egypt in their youth. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. ⁵ Do not deprive one another, except by mutual agreement, and that for a season, so that you may devote yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, lest Satan tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

⁵ For this reason I left you behind in Crete, so that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and you should appoint elders in every city as I commanded you: ⁶ if a man is unimpeachable, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or who are insubordinate. ⁷ For a bishop must be unimpeachable, as God's steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, ⁸ but hospitable, loving good, prudent, just, holy, temperate,

¹⁹ And Lamech took to himself two wives; the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah.

²¹ But Abijah strengthened himself, and took to himself fourteen wives, and he begot twenty-two sons, and sixteen daughters.

²¹ And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom more than all his wives and all his concubines; for he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines. And he begot twenty-eight sons, and sixty daughters.

⁸ and I gave you the house of your master, and the wives of your master into your bosom, and I gave to you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have given you even more.

¹⁵ And if a man has two wives, the one loved and the other hated, and both the loved and the hated should have born him children, and the son of the hated should be firstborn; ¹⁶ then it shall be that whenever he shall divide by inheritance his goods to his sons, he shall not be able to give the right of the firstborn to the son of the loved one, having overlooked the son of the hated, which is the firstborn. ¹⁷ But he shall acknowledge the firstborn of the hated one, to give to him double of all things which shall be found by him, because he is the first of his children, and to him belongs the birthright.

¹ Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba. ² And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest. ³ And Jehoiada took to himself two wives, and they bore sons and daughters.

¹ And seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own clothes; only let your name be called upon us, and take away our reproach.

¹ "Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who having taken their lamps, went out to meet the bridegroom. ² Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. ³ Those who were foolish, having taken their lamps, did not take oil with them, ⁴ but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. ⁵ But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. ⁶ And at midnight a cry was heard: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!' ⁷ "Then all those virgins arose, and they trimmed their lamps. ⁸ And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' ⁹ "But the wise answered, saying, 'No, lest there should not be enough for you and us; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.' ¹⁰ "But as they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. ¹¹ Afterward the remaining virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us!' ¹² "But he answered and said, 'Assuredly I say to you, I do not know you.' ¹³ "Watch therefore, for you do not know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. ¹⁴ "For it is as if a man leaving on a journey, who called his own servants and handed over his possessions to them. ¹⁵ And to the one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. ¹⁶ Then the one receiving the five talents went and traded with them, and made five other talents. ¹⁷ And likewise the one receiving the two gained two more also. ¹⁸ But the one receiving one went away and dug in the ground, and hid his lord's money. ¹⁹ Then after much time, the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. ²⁰ And the one who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I gained five more talents besides them.' ²¹ "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.' ²² "And also the one receiving the two talents came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.' ²³ "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.' ²⁴ "Then the one having received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you, that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter. ²⁵ And being afraid, I went off and hid your talent in the ground. Look, you have what is yours.' ²⁶ "But his lord answered and said to him, 'You wicked and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter. ²⁷ Therefore you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received what is mine with interest. ²⁸ Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents. ²⁹ For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but to him who does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. ³⁰ And cast the useless servant into the darkness outside. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' ³¹ "And when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then will He sit upon His glorious throne. ³² All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. ³³ And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on His left. ³⁴ Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: ³⁵ for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; ³⁶ I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.' ³⁷ "Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? ³⁸ When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? ³⁹ Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' ⁴⁰ "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brothers, you did it to Me.' ⁴¹ "Then He will also say to those on the left, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels: ⁴² for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; ⁴³ I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.' ⁴⁴ "Then they also will answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and we did not minister to You?' ⁴⁵ "Then He will answer them, saying, 'Assuredly I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, neither did you do it to Me.' ⁴⁶ "And these shall go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

¹⁰ And if he take another to himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, and her companionship with him.
