Bible verses about "almonds" | DouayRheims

Genesis 30:37-43

37 And Jacob took green rods of poplar, and of almond, and of plane trees, and pilled them in part: so when the bark was taken off, in the parts that were pilled, there appeared whiteness: but the parts that were whole, remained green: and by this means the colour was divers. 38 And he put them in the troughs, where the water was poured out; that when the flocks should come to drink, they might have the rods before their eyes, and in the sight of them might conceive. 39 And it came to pass, that in the very heat of coition, the sheep beheld the rods, and brought forth spotted, and of divers colours, and speckled. 40 And Jacob separated the flock, and put the rods in the troughs before the eyes of the rams; and all the white and the black were Laban's, and the rest were Jacob's, when the flocks were separated one from the other. 41 So when the ewes went first to ram, Jacob put the rods in the troughs of water before the eyes of the rams, and of the ewes, that they might conceive while they were looking upon them. 42 But when the later coming was, and the last conceiving, he did not put them. And those that were lateward, became Laban's; and they of the first time, Jacob's. 43 And the man was enriched exceedingly, and he had many flocks, maidservants and menservants, camels and asses.

Exodus 25:31-40

31 Thou shalt make also a candlestick of beaten work, of the finest gold, the shaft thereof, and the branches, the cups, and the bowls, and the lilies going forth from it. 32 Six branches shall come out of the sides, three out of one side, and three out of the other. 33 Three cups as it were nuts to every branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily: and three cups likewise of the fashion of nuts in the other branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily. Such shall be the work of the six branches, that are to come out from the shaft: 34 And in the candlestick itself shall be four cups in the manner of a nut, and at every one bowls and lilies. 35 Bowls under two branches in three places, which together make six, coming forth out of one shaft. 36 And both the bowls and the branches shall be of the same beaten work of the purest gold. 37 Thou shalt make also seven lamps, and shalt set them upon the candlestick, to give light over against. 38 The snuffers also, and where the snuffings shall be put out, shall be made of the purest gold. 39 The whole weight of the candlestick, with all the furniture thereof, shall be a talent of the purest gold. 40 Look, and make it according to the pattern that was shewn thee in the mount.

Numbers 17:8

8 He returned on the following day, and found that the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi, was budded: and that the buds swelling it hid bloomed blossoms, which spreading the leaves, were formed into almonds.

Ecclesiastes 12:1-14

1 Remember thy Creator in the days of thy youth, before the time of affliction come, and the years draw nigh of which thou shalt say: They please me not: 2 Before the sun, and the light, and the moon, and the stars be darkened, and the clouds return after the rain: 3 When the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall stagger, and the grinders shall be idle in a small number, and they that look through the holes shall be darkened: 4 And they shall shut the doors in the street, when the grinder's voice shall be low, and they shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of music shall grow deaf. 5 And they shall fear high things, and they shall be afraid in the way, the almond tree shall flourish, the locust shall be made fat, and the caper tree shall be destroyed: because man shall go into the house of his eternity, and the mourners shall go round about in the street. 6 Before the silver cord be broken, and the golden fillet shrink back, and the pitcher be crushed at the fountain, and the wheel be broken upon the cistern, 7 And the dust return into its earth, from whence it was, and the spirit return to God, who gave it. 8 Vanity of vanities, said Ecclesiastes, and all things are vanity. 9 And whereas Ecclesiastes was very wise, he taught the people, and declared the things that he had done: and seeking out, he set forth many parables. 10 He sought profitable words, and wrote words most right, and full of truth. 11 The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails deeply fastened in, which by the counsel of masters are given from one shepherd. 12 More than these, my son, require not. Of making many books there is no end: and much study is an affliction of the flesh. 13 Let us all hear together the conclusion of the discourse. Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is all man: 14 And all things that are done, God will bring into judgment for every error, whether it be good or evil.

Exodus 25:33-34

33 Three cups as it were nuts to every branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily: and three cups likewise of the fashion of nuts in the other branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily. Such shall be the work of the six branches, that are to come out from the shaft: 34 And in the candlestick itself shall be four cups in the manner of a nut, and at every one bowls and lilies.
