¹ And the heaven and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. ² And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. ³ And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it: because that in it he rested from all his work which God had created and made. ⁴ These are the generations of the heaven and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made earth and heaven. ⁵ And no plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground; ⁶ but there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. ⁷ And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. ⁸ And the LORD God planted a garden eastward, in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. ⁹ And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. ¹⁰ And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became four heads. ¹¹ The name of the first is Pishon: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; ¹² and the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. ¹³ And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Cush. ¹⁴ And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth in front of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. ¹⁵ And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. ¹⁶ And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: ¹⁷ but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. ¹⁸ And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. ¹⁹ And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto the man to see what he would call them: and whatsoever the man called every living creature, that was the name thereof. ²⁰ And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for man there was not found an help meet for him. ²¹ And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof: ²² and the rib, which the LORD God had taken from the man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. ²³ And the man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. ²⁴ Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. ²⁵ And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

⁴⁴ So shall I observe thy law continually for ever and ever. ⁴⁵ And I will walk at liberty; for I have sought thy precepts. ⁴⁶ I will also speak of thy testimonies before kings, and will not be ashamed. ⁴⁷ And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.

¹ My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: ² For length of days, and years of life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

¹ As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool. ² As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, so the curse that is causeless lighteth not. ³ A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of fools. ⁴ Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. ⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit. ⁶ He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off [his own] feet, [and] drinketh in damage. ⁷ The legs of the lame hang loose: so is a parable in the mouth of fools. ⁸ As a bag of gems in a heap of stones, so is he that giveth honour to a fool. ⁹ [As] a thorn that goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the month of fools. ¹⁰ [As] an archer that woundeth all, so is he that hireth the fool and he that hireth them that pass by. ¹¹ As a dog that returneth to his vomit, [so is] a fool that repeateth his folly. ¹² Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him. ¹³ The sluggard saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. ¹⁴ [As] the door turneth upon its hinges, so doth the sluggard upon his bed. ¹⁵ The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; it wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth. ¹⁶ The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason. ¹⁷ He that passeth by, [and] vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, is [like] one that taketh a dog by the ears. ¹⁸ As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death; ¹⁹ So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport? ²⁰ For lack of wood the fire goeth out: and where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth. ²¹ [As] coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to inflame strife. ²² The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. ²³ Fervent lips and a wicked heart are [like] an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross. ²⁴ He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, but he layeth up deceit within him: ²⁵ When he speaketh fair, believe him not; for there are seven abominations in his heart: ²⁶ Though [his] hatred cover itself with guile, his wickedness shall be openly shewed before the congregation. ²⁷ Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him. ²⁸ A lying tongue hateth those whom it hath wounded; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

⁴ but with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. ⁵ And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. ⁶ And the wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. ⁷ And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. ⁸ And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the basilisk’s den. ⁹ They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. ¹⁰ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the root of Jesse, which standeth for an ensign of the peoples, unto him shall the nations seek; and his resting place shall be glorious. ¹¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall remain, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. ¹² And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

²¹ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. ²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out devils, and by thy name do many mighty works? ²³ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

²⁷ And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, If any will not work, neither let him eat.

²⁶ I therefore so run, as not uncertainly; so fight I, as not beating the air:

²⁴ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be put under taskwork.

¹¹ Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. ¹² For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places]. ¹³ Wherefore take up the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand. ¹⁴ Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, ¹⁵ and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; ¹⁶ withal taking up the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil [one]. ¹⁷ And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: ¹⁸ with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,

¹⁵ Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and the idle soul shall suffer hunger.

¹⁴ For [it is] as [when] a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. ¹⁵ And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his several ability; and he went on his journey. ¹⁶ Straightway he that received the five talents went and traded with them, and made other five talents. ¹⁷ In like manner he also that [received] the two gained other two. ¹⁸ But he that received the one went away and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. ¹⁹ Now after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and maketh a reckoning with them. ²⁰ And he that received the five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: lo, I have gained other five talents. ²¹ His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. ²² And he also that [received] the two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: lo, I have gained other two talents. ²³ His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. ²⁴ And he also that had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering where thou didst not scatter: ²⁵ and I was afraid, and went away and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, thou hast thine own. ²⁶ But his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter; ²⁷ thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back mine own with interest. ²⁸ Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him that hath the ten talents. ²⁹ For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away. ³⁰ And cast ye out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁶ Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: ⁷ Which having no chief, overseer, or ruler, ⁸ Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. ⁹ How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? ¹⁰ [Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ¹¹ So shall thy poverty come as a robber, and thy want as an armed man.

²⁵ The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.

⁴ He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. ⁵ He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: [but] he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

⁴ The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

⁹ He also that is slack in his work is brother to him that is a destroyer.
