³ It seemed good also to me (most noble Theophilus) assoone as I had searched out perfectly all things from the beginning, to write vnto thee thereof from point to point,

¹⁶ For by him were all things created, which are in heauen, and which are in earth, thinges visible and inuisible: whether they be Thrones or Dominions, or Principalities, or Powers, all things were created by him, and for him, ¹⁷ And hee is before all things, and in him all things consist.

⁷ So that we may boldly say, The Lord is mine helper, neither will I feare what man can doe vnto me.

¹ To all things there is an appointed time, and a time to euery purpose vnder the heauen. ² A time to bee borne, and a time to die: a time to plant, and a time to plucke vp that which is planted. ³ A time to slay, and a time to heale: a time to breake downe, and a time to builde. ⁴ A time to weepe, and a time to laugh: a time to mourne, and a time to dance. ⁵ A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones: a time to embrace, and a time to be farre from embracing. ⁶ A time to seeke, and a time to lose: a time to keepe, and a time to cast away. ⁷ A time to rent, and a time to sowe: a time to keepe silence, and a time to speake. ⁸ A time to loue, and a time to hate: a time of warre, and a time of peace. ⁹ What profite hath hee that worketh of the thing wherein he trauaileth? ¹⁰ I haue seene the trauaile that God hath giuen to ye sonnes of men to humble them thereby. ¹¹ He hath made euery thing beautifull in his time: also he hath set the worlde in their heart, yet can not man finde out the worke that God hath wrought from the beginning euen to the end. ¹² I know that there is nothing good in them, but to reioyce, and to doe good in his life. ¹³ And also that euery man eateth and drinketh, and seeth the commoditie of all his labour. this is the gift of God. ¹⁴ I knowe that whatsoeuer God shall doe, it shalbe for euer: to it can no man adde, and from it can none diminish: for God hath done it, that they should feare before him. ¹⁵ What is that that hath bene? that is nowe: and that that shalbe, hath now bene: for God requireth that which is past. ¹⁶ And moreouer I haue seene vnder the sunne the place of iudgement, where was wickednesse, and the place of iustice where was iniquitie. ¹⁷ I thought in mine heart, God wil iudge the iust and the wicked: for time is there for euery purpose and for euery worke. ¹⁸ I considered in mine heart the state of the children of men that God had purged them: yet to see to, they are in themselues as beastes. ¹⁹ For the condition of the children of men, and the condition of beasts are euen as one condition vnto them. As the one dyeth, so dyeth the other: for they haue all one breath, and there is no excellency of man aboue ye beast: for all is vanitie. ²⁰ All goe to one place, and all was of the dust, and all shall returne to the dust. ²¹ Who knoweth whether the spirit of man ascend vpward, and the spirit of the beast descend downeward to the earth? ²² Therefore I see that there is nothing better then that a man shoulde reioyce in his affaires, because that is his portion. For who shall bring him to see what shalbe after him?

³⁰ I passed by the fielde of the slouthfull, and by the vineyarde of the man destitute of vnderstanding. ³¹ And lo, it was al growen ouer with thornes, and nettles had couered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken downe. ³² Then I behelde, and I considered it well: I looked vpon it, and receiued instruction.

² And fashion not your selues like vnto this worlde, but bee yee changed by the renewing of your minde, that ye may prooue what that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God is.

³ The elder women likewise, that they be in such behauiour as becommeth holinesse, not false accusers, not subiect to much wine, but teachers of honest things, ⁴ That they may instruct the yong women to be sober minded, that they loue their husbands, that they loue their children, ⁵ That they be temperate, chaste, keeping at home, good and subiect vnto their husbands, that the word of God be not euill spoken of.

¹ In the beginning God created the heauen and the earth. ² And the earth was without forme and void, and darkenesse was vpon the deepe, and the Spirit of God mooued vpon the waters. ³ Then God said, Let there be light: And there was light. ⁴ And God saw the light that it was good, and God separated the light from the darkenes. ⁵ And God called the Light, Day, and the darkenes, he called Night. So the euening and the morning were the first day. ⁶ Againe God said, Let there be a firmament in the mids of the waters: and let it separate the waters from the waters. ⁷ Then God made the firmament, and separated the waters, which were vnder the firmament, from the waters which were aboue the firmament: and it was so. ⁸ And God called the firmament Heauen. So the Euening and the morning were the second day. ⁹ God said againe, Let the waters vnder the heauen be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appeare. and it was so. ¹⁰ And God called the dry land, Earth, and he called the gathering together of the waters, Seas: and God saw that it was good. ¹¹ Then God said, Let the earth bud forth the bud of the herbe, that seedeth seed, the fruitfull tree, which beareth fruite according to his kinde, which hath his seede in it selfe vpon the earth: and it was so. ¹² And the earth brought foorth the bud of the herbe, that seedeth seede according to his kind, also the tree that beareth fruit, which hath his seed in it selfe according to his kinde: and God saw that it was good. ¹³ So the euening and the morning were the third day. ¹⁴ And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heauen, to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signes, and for seasons, and for dayes and yeeres. ¹⁵ And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heauen to giue light vpon the earth: and it was so. ¹⁶ God then made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesse light to rule the night: he made also the starres. ¹⁷ And God set them in the firmament of the heauen, to shine vpon the earth, ¹⁸ And to rule in the day, and in the night, and to separate the light from the darkenesse: and God saw that it was good. ¹⁹ So the euening and the morning were the fourth day. ²⁰ Afterward God said, Let the waters bring foorth in abundance euery creeping thing that hath life: and let the foule flie vpon the earth in the open firmament of the heauen. ²¹ Then God created the great whales, and euery thing liuing and mouing, which the waters brought foorth in abundance according to their kinde, and euery fethered foule according to his kinde: and God sawe that it was good. ²² Then God blessed them, saying, Bring foorth fruite and multiplie, and fill the waters in the seas, and let the foule multiplie in the earth. ²³ So the euening and the morning were the fifte day. ²⁴ Moreouer God said, Let the earth bring foorth the liuing thing according to his kinde, cattel, and that which creepeth, and the beast of the earth, according to his kinde. and it was so. ²⁵ And God made the beast of the earth according to his kinde, and the cattell according to his kinde, and euery creeping thing of the earth according to his kind: and God saw that it was good. ²⁶ Furthermore God said, Let vs make man in our image according to our likenes, and let them rule ouer the fish of the sea, and ouer the foule of the heauen, and ouer the beastes, and ouer all the earth, and ouer euery thing that creepeth and moueth on the earth. ²⁷ Thus God created the man in his image: in the image of God created he him: he created them male and female. ²⁸ And God blessed them, and God said to them, Bring forth fruite and multiplie, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule ouer the fish of the sea, and ouer the foule of the heauen, and ouer euery beast that moueth vpon the earth. ²⁹ And God said, Beholde, I haue giuen vnto you euery herbe bearing seede, which is vpon al the earth, and euery tree, wherein is the fruite of a tree bearing seede: that shall be to you for meate. ³⁰ Likewise to euery beast of the earth, and to euery foule of the heauen, and to euery thing that moueth vpon the earth, which hath life in it selfe, euery greene herbe shall be for meate. and it was so. ³¹ And God sawe all that he had made, and loe, it was very good. So the euening and the morning were the sixt day.

⁴⁰ Let all things be done honestly, and by order.
