⁶ And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, ⁷ Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

²² A merry heart does good like a medicine: but a broken spirit dries the bones.

¹⁴ They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be healthy and flourishing; ¹⁵ To show that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

⁵ When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice; and I am persuaded in you also.

¹⁷ But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;

²² A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children: but the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

⁴ And even to your old age I am he; and even to gray hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.

⁹ Only take heed to yourself, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life: but teach them to your sons, and your sons' sons;

¹ But you speak the things which become sound doctrine: ² That the aged men be sensible, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience. ³ The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; ⁴ That they may teach the young women to be sensible, to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵ To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

⁴ One generation shall praise your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.

³¹ White hair is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of righteousness.

⁶ Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children is their fathers.
