⁴ And the word of the Lord came to him, [saying], ⁵ Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you; and before you came forth from the womb, I sanctified you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations. ⁶ And I said, O Lord, you that are supreme Lord, behold, I know not [how] to speak, for I am a child. ⁷ And the Lord said to me, Say not, I am a child: for you shall go to all to whoever I shall send you, and according to all [the words] that I shall command you, you shall speak. ⁸ Be not afraid before them: for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord. ⁹ And the Lord stretched forth his hand to me, and touched my mouth: and the Lord said to me, Behold, I have put my words into your mouth. ¹⁰ Behold, I have appointed you this day over nations and over kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to rebuild, and to plant.

¹ Now the Lord had commanded a great whale to swallow up Jonas: and Jonas was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights. ² And Jonas prayed to the Lord his God out of the belly of the whale, ³ and said, I cried in my affliction to the Lord my God, and he listened to me, [even] to my cry out of the belly of hell: you heard my voice. ⁴ You did cast me into the depths of the heart of the sea, and the floods compassed me: all your billows and your waves have passed upon me. ⁵ And I said, I am cast out of your presence: shall I indeed look again toward your holy temple? ⁶ Water was poured around me to the soul: the lowest deep compassed me, my head went down ⁷ to the clefts of the mountains; I went down into the earth, whose bars are the everlasting barriers: yet, O Lord my God, let my ruined life be restored. ⁸ When my soul was failing me, I remembered the Lord; and may my prayer come to you into your holy temple. ⁹ They that observe vanities and lies have forsaken their own mercy. ¹⁰ But I will sacrifice to you with the voice of praise and thanksgiving: all that I have vowed I will pay to you, the Lord of [my] salvation.

⁷ who lifts up the poor from the earth, and raises up the needy from the dunghill;

⁹ I will say to God, You are my helper; why have you forgotten me? therefore do I go sad of countenance, while the enemy oppresses [me]?

¹ And now thus says the Lord God that made you, O Jacob, and formed you, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed you, I have called you [by] your name; you are mine. ² And if you pass through water, I am with you; and the rivers shall not overflow you: and if you go through fire, you shall not be burned; the flame shall not burn you. ³ For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, that saves you: I have made Egypt and Ethiopia your ransom, and [given] Soene for you. ⁴ Since you became precious in my sight, you have become glorious, and I have loved you: and I will give men for you, and princes for your life.
