⁸ And Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to your brother. ⁹ And Onan knew that the seed would not be his. And it happened when he went in to his brother's wife, that he spilled on the ground, not giving seed to his brother. ¹⁰ And what he did was evil in the eyes of Jehovah. Therefore He killed him also.

⁴ These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created in the day that Jehovah God made the earth and the heavens. ⁵ And every shrub of the field was not yet on the earth, and every plant of the field had not yet sprung up, for Jehovah God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no man to till the ground. ⁶ But there went up from the earth a mist and watered all the face of the ground. ⁷ And Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. ⁸ And Jehovah God planted a garden eastward in Eden. And there He put the man whom He had formed. ⁹ And out of the ground Jehovah God caused to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food. The tree of life also was in the middle of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. ¹⁰ And a river went out of Eden to water the garden. And from there it was divided and became four heads. ¹¹ The name of the first is Pishon; that is it which surrounds all the land of Havilah, where there is gold. ¹² And the gold of that land is good. There is bdellium and the onyx stone. ¹³ And the name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one that surrounds the whole land of Cush. ¹⁴ And the name of the third river is Tigris; it is that which goes toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. ¹⁵ And Jehovah God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. ¹⁶ And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree in the garden, ¹⁷ but you shall not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. For in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die. ¹⁸ And Jehovah God said, It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. ¹⁹ And out of the ground Jehovah God formed every animal of the field and every fowl of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. ²⁰ And Adam gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field. But there was not found a suitable helper for Adam. ²¹ And Jehovah God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept. And He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh underneath. ²² And Jehovah God made the rib (which He had taken from the man) into a woman. And He brought her to the man. ²³ And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called Woman because she was taken out of man. ²⁴ Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife and they shall be one flesh. ²⁵ And they were both naked, the man and his wife; and they were not ashamed.

¹ Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which Jehovah God had made. And he said to the woman, Is it so that God has said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden? ² And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden. ³ But of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. ⁴ And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die, ⁵ for God knows that in the day you eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as God, knowing good and evil. ⁶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasing to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make wise, she took of its fruit, and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. ⁷ And the eyes of both of them were opened. And they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made girdles for themselves. ⁸ And they heard the voice of Jehovah God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah God in the middle of the trees of the garden. ⁹ And Jehovah God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you? ¹⁰ And he said, I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I am naked, and I hid myself. ¹¹ And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree which I commanded you that you should not eat? ¹² And the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate. ¹³ And Jehovah God said to the woman, What is this you have done? And the woman said, The serpent deceived me, and I ate. ¹⁴ And Jehovah God said to the serpent, Because you have done this you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every animal of the field. You shall go upon your belly, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. ¹⁵ And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He will bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel. ¹⁶ To the woman He said, I will greatly increase your sorrow and your conception. In pain you shall bear sons, and your desire shall be toward your husband, and he shall rule over you. ¹⁷ And to Adam He said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it! The ground is cursed for your sake. In pain shall you eat of it all the days of your life. ¹⁸ It shall also bring forth thorns and thistles to you, and you shall eat the herb of the field. ¹⁹ In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are, and to dust you shall return. ²⁰ And Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. ²¹ And for Adam and his wife Jehovah God made coats of skins, and clothed them. ²² And Jehovah God said, Behold, the man has become as one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put forth his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever, ²³ therefore Jehovah God sent him out from the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he had been taken. ²⁴ And He drove out the man. And He placed cherubs at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

¹ And it happened at that time Judah went down from his brothers and turned in to a certain Adullamite, named Hirah. ² And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite man named Shuah. And he took her and went in to her. ³ And she conceived and bore a son. And he called his name Er. ⁴ And she conceived again, and bore a son, and she called his name Onan. ⁵ And she yet again conceived and bore a son. And she called his name Shelah. And she was at Chezib when she bore him. ⁶ And Judah took a wife for Er his first-born, whose name was Tamar. ⁷ And Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of Jehovah. And Jehovah killed him. ⁸ And Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to your brother. ⁹ And Onan knew that the seed would not be his. Therefore He killed him also. ¹¹ Then said Judah to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow at your father's house until Shelah my son is grown. For he said, Lest perhaps he die also, as his brothers did. And Tamar went and lived in her father's house. ¹² And the days were many, and Judah's wife, the daughter of Shuah, died. And Judah was comforted, and went up to shearers of his sheep, he and his friend Hiram of Adullam, to Timnah. ¹³ And it was told to Tamar, saying, Behold, your father-in-law goes up to Timnah to shear his sheep. ¹⁴ And she put off her widow's clothes, and covered herself with a veil, and wrapped herself. And she sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnah. For she saw that Shelah was grown and she was not given to him as wife. ¹⁵ When Judah saw her, he thought she was a harlot, because she had covered her face. ¹⁶ And he turned aside to her by the wayside, and said, Come now, let me come in to you. For he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, What will you give me, so that you may come in to me? ¹⁷ And he said, I will send a kid of the goats from the flock. And she said, Will you give me a pledge until you send it? ¹⁸ And he said, What pledge shall I give you? And she said, Your signet, and your bracelet, and your staff that is in your hand. And he gave to her, and came in to her, and she conceived by him. ¹⁹ And she arose, and went away, and laid away her veil from her, and put on the clothes of her widowhood. ²⁰ And Judah sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand. But he did not find her. ²¹ Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot who was by the wayside? And they said, There was no harlot here. ²² And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her. And also the men of the place said, There was no harlot here. ²³ And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be ashamed. Behold, I sent this kid, and you have not found her. ²⁴ And it happened, about three months afterward, that it was told Judah, saying, Your daughter-in-law Tamar has played the harlot, and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burned. ²⁵ When she was brought forth, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, I am with child by the man whose things these are. And she said, Please observe. Whose things are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff? ²⁶ And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She has been more righteous than I have, because I did not give her to my son Shelah. And he never knew her again. ²⁷ And it happened, in the time of her travail, behold, twins were in her womb. ²⁸ And when she travailed, it happened that one put out a hand. And the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This one came out first. ²⁹ And it happened as he drew back his hand, behold, his brother came out. And she said, How have you broken a break for yourself? And his name was called Pharez. ³⁰ And afterwards his brother came out, on whose hand was the scarlet thread. And his name was called Zarah.

⁹ And they said to him, Where is Sarah your wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. ¹⁰ And He said, I will certainly return to you according to the time of life, and lo, Sarah your wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard in the tent door which was behind Him. ¹¹ Now Abraham and Sarah were old, far gone in days, and it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. ¹² Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After my being old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? ¹³ And Jehovah said to Abraham, Why did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I, who am old, truly bear a child? ¹⁴ Is anything too hard for Jehovah? At the time appointed I will return again, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. ¹⁵ Then Sarah denied, saying, I did not laugh; for she was afraid. And He said, No, but you did laugh. ¹⁶ And the men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. And Abraham was going with them to bring them on the way.

⁸ And Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to your brother.

¹⁹ And if a woman has an issue, and her issue in her flesh is blood, she shall be in her impurity seven days. And whoever touches her shall be unclean until the evening. ²⁰ And everything that she lies on in her impurity shall be unclean. Everything also that she sits on shall be unclean. ²¹ And whoever touches her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe in water, and be unclean until the evening. ²² And whoever touches anything that she sat on, shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until the evening. ²³ And if it is on the bed or on anything on which she sits, when he touches it, he shall be unclean until the evening.

¹⁰ And a man who commits adultery with a man's wife, who commits adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

¹⁸ And you shall not take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life.

¹³ And he shall take a wife in her virginity. ¹⁴ He shall not take a widow or a divorced woman, or profane, or a harlot, but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife. ¹⁵ And he shall not defile his seed among his people. For I, Jehovah, do sanctify him.

² Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, If a woman has conceived seed and has borne a male, then she shall be unclean seven days; as on the days of her menstrual impurity she shall be unclean. ³ And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. ⁴ And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying thirty-three days. She shall touch no holy thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying are fulfilled. ⁵ But if she bears a female, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her menstruation. And she shall continue in the blood of her purifying sixty-six days.

⁹ And any man who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be on him.

¹¹ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ¹² Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, If any man's wife goes astray, and has committed a trespass against him, ¹³ and a man lie with her carnally, and if it is hidden from the eyes of her husband and is kept hidden, and she is defiled, and there is no witness against her, neither is she taken in the act; ¹⁴ and if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he is jealous of his wife, and she is defiled-- or if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he is jealous of his wife, and she is not defiled-- ¹⁵ then the man shall bring his wife to the priest. And he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth of an ephah of barley meal. He shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense on it, for it is an offering of jealousy, a reminding offering, bringing iniquity to mind. ¹⁶ And the priest shall bring her near and set her before Jehovah. ¹⁷ And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel. And the priest shall take of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water. ¹⁸ And the priest shall set the woman before Jehovah, and uncover the woman's head, and put the reminding offering in her hands, which is the jealousy offering. And the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that causes the curse. ¹⁹ And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say to the woman, If no man has lain with you, and if you have not gone aside to uncleanness, being under your husband, you are free from this bitter water that causes the curse. ²⁰ But if you have gone aside, being under your husband, and if you are defiled and some man besides your husband has given his semen to you, ²¹ then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing. And the priest shall say to the woman, Jehovah make you a curse and an oath among your people, when Jehovah makes your thigh to fall away and your belly to swell. ²² And this water that causes the curse shall go into your bowels to make your belly swell and your thigh fall away. And the woman shall say, Amen, amen. ²³ And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot them out with the bitter water. ²⁴ And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causes the curse. And the water that causes the curse shall enter into her and become bitter. ²⁵ Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the woman's hand and shall wave the offering before Jehovah, and offer it upon the altar. ²⁶ And the priest shall take a handful of the offering, as a memorial of it, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward he shall cause the woman to drink the water. ²⁷ And when he has made her drink the water, then it shall be, if she is defiled and has committed a trespass against her husband, the water that causes the curse shall enter into her and become bitter. And her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall fall away. And the woman shall be a curse among her people. ²⁸ And if the woman is not defiled, but is clean, then she shall be clean, and shall conceive seed. ²⁹ This is the law of jealousies when a woman goes aside, being under her husband, and is defiled. ³⁰ Or when the spirit of jealousy comes on a man, and he is jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before Jehovah, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law. ³¹ Then shall the man be guiltless from iniquity, and the woman shall bear her iniquity.

¹ And the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh, the son of Joseph came. And these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah. ² And they stood before Moses and before Eleazar the priest, and before the rulers and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying, ³ Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of those who gathered themselves against Jehovah in the company of Korah, but died in his own sin, and had no sons. ⁴ Why should the name of our father be taken away from among his family, because he has no son? Therefore give us a possession among the brothers of our father. ⁵ And Moses brought their cause before Jehovah. ⁶ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ⁷ The daughters of Zelophehad speak right. You shall surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father's brothers. And you shall cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them. ⁸ And you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, When a man dies, and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter. ⁹ And if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. ¹⁰ And if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father's brothers. ¹¹ And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his nearest relative, of his family, and he shall possess it. And it shall be to the sons of Israel a statute of judgment, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

² If a man vows a vow to Jehovah, or swears an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that comes out of his mouth. ³ If a woman also vows a vow to Jehovah, and binds herself by a bond, being in her father's house in her youth, ⁴ and if her father hears her vow and her bond with which she has bound her soul, and if her father is silent as to her, then all her vows shall stand, and every bond with which she has bound her soul shall stand. ⁵ But if her father does not allow her in the day that he hears, not any of her vows or of her bonds with which she has bound her soul shall stand. And Jehovah shall forgive her because her father did not allow her. ⁶ And if she had a husband when she vowed, or if she said anything rash out of her lips with which she bound her soul, ⁷ and if her husband heard and is silent as to her in the day that he heard, then her vows shall stand, and her bonds with which she bound her soul shall stand. ⁸ But if her husband did not allow her on the day that he heard it, then he shall make her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her lips, with which she bound her soul, of no effect. And Jehovah shall forgive her. ⁹ But every vow of a widow and of her who is divorced, all which she has bound on her soul shall stand against her. ¹⁰ And if she vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath, ¹¹ and if her husband heard and is silent as to her, and did not forbid her, then all her vows shall stand, and every bond with which she bound her soul shall stand. ¹² But if her husband has certainly broken them on the day he heard, whatever comes out of her lips concerning her vows or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand. Her husband has broken them. And Jehovah shall forgive her. ¹³ Every vow and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may break it. ¹⁴ But if her husband is altogether silent as to her from day to day, then he establishes all her vows or all her bonds which are on her. He confirms them, because he was silent as to her in the day that he heard. ¹⁵ But if he at all breaks them after he has heard, then he has borne her iniquity.

²² If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both of them die, the man that lay with the woman, and the woman. So you shall put away evil from Israel.

¹³ If any man takes a wife and goes in to her, and hates her, ¹⁴ and makes shameful charges against her, and brings up an evil name on her, and says, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I did not find in her the tokens of virginity, ¹⁵ then shall the father of the girl, and her mother, take and bring tokens of the girl's virginity to the elders of the city in the gate. ¹⁶ And the girl's father shall say to the elders, I gave my daughter to this man to wife, and he hates her. ¹⁷ And, lo, he has made shameful charges against her, saying, I have not found in your daughter the tokens of virginity. And yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city. ¹⁸ And the elders of that city shall take that man and punish him. ¹⁹ And they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver, and give them to the father of the girl, because he has brought an evil name on a virgin of Israel. And she shall be his wife. He may not put her away all his days. ²⁰ But if this thing is true and tokens of virginity are not found for the girl, ²¹ then they shall bring the girl out to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones so that she dies, because she has done foolishness in Israel to play the harlot in her father's house. So you shall put evil away from among you.

²⁸ If a man finds a girl, a virgin not engaged, and lays hold on her, and lies with her, and they are found, ²⁹ then the man who lay with her shall give to the girl's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife. Because he has humbled her, he may not put her away all his days. ³⁰ A man shall not take his father's wife, nor uncover his father's skirt.

¹ When a man has taken a wife and married her, and it happens that she finds no favor in his eyes, because he has found some uncleanness in her, then let him write her a bill of divorce and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house. ² And when she has departed from his house, she goes and becomes another man's; ³ and the latter husband hates her and writes her a bill of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house; or if the latter husband dies, he who took her to be his wife ⁴ her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife after she is defiled. For that is hateful before Jehovah. And you shall not cause the land to sin, which Jehovah your God gives you for an inheritance.

³ And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines. And his wives turned away his heart.

¹³ And David took more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron. And there were still more sons and daughters born to David.

²⁰ A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish man despises his mother.

¹ A wise son heeds his father's instruction, but a scorner does not hear rebuke.

²⁶ and I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands like bands. Whoever pleases God shall escape from her, but the sinner shall be taken by her. ²⁷ Behold, this I have found, says the Preacher, counting one by one, to find out the sum, ²⁸ which my soul still sought, but I find not: one man among a thousand I have found, but a woman among all those I have not found.

⁴ Do not fear; for you shall not be ashamed, nor shall you blush; for you shall not be put to shame; for you shall forget the shame of your youth, and shall not remember the reproach of your widowhood any more.

³² But I say to you that whoever shall put away his wife, except for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery. And whoever shall marry her who is put away commits adultery.

³¹ Then His brothers and His mother came. And standing outside, they sent to Him, calling Him. ³² And the crowd sat about Him, and they said to Him, Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are outside seeking for You. ³³ And He answered them, saying, Who is My mother, or My brothers? ³⁴ And He looked around on those who sat about Him, and said, Behold My mother and My brothers! ³⁵ For whoever does the will of God, the same is My brother and My sister and My mother.

²⁶ If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

³⁴ Let your women be silent in the churches; for it is not permitted to them to speak, but to be in subjection, as the Law also says. ³⁵ And if they desire to learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home; for it is a shame for a woman to speak in a church.

²⁰ My son, keep your father's commandments, and do not forsake the law of your mother; ²¹ bind them upon your heart forever, tie them around your neck. ²² When you go, it shall lead you; when you sleep, it shall keep you; and when you awake, it shall talk with you. ²³ For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life; ²⁴ to keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. ²⁵ Do not lust after her beauty in your heart; nor let her take you with her eyelids. ²⁶ For by means of a harlot a man comes to a piece of bread; and another man's wife will hunt for the precious life. ²⁷ Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? ²⁸ Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? ²⁹ So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; whoever touches her shall not be innocent. ³⁰ They do not despise a thief, if he steals to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; ³¹ but if he is found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the goods of his house. ³² Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; he who does it destroys his own soul. ³³ He shall get a wound and dishonor; and his shame shall not be wiped away. ³⁴ For jealousy is the rage of a man; therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. ³⁵ He will not take any ransom; nor will he be willing if you multiply the gifts.

¹ My son, keep my words and store up my commandments within you. ² Keep my commandments and live; and keep my law as the pupil of your eye. ³ Bind them upon your fingers; write them upon the tablet of your heart. ⁴ Say to wisdom, You are my sister; and call understanding your kinsman, ⁵ so that they may keep you from the strange woman, from the stranger who flatters with her words. ⁶ For at the window of my house I looked through my lattice, ⁷ and I saw among the simple ones, among the youths, a young man with no understanding, ⁸ passing through the street near her corner. And he went the way to her house, ⁹ in the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night. ¹⁰ And, behold, there a woman met him, with the dress of a harlot and a guarded heart. ¹¹ She is loud and stubborn; her feet do not stay in her house; ¹² now she is outside, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every corner. ¹³ And she caught him and kissed him, and with a hard face she said to him, ¹⁴ I have peace offerings with me; today I have paid my vows. ¹⁵ so I came out to meet you, earnestly to seek your face, and I have found you. ¹⁶ I have decked my bed with coverings, with striped cloths of Egyptian linen. ¹⁷ I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. ¹⁸ Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us delight ourselves with caresses. ¹⁹ For my husband is not at home, he has gone on a long journey; ²⁰ he has taken a bag of silver with him and will come home at the day of the full moon. ²¹ With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him. ²² He goes after her immediately, like an ox goes to the slaughter, or like a fool to the correction of the stocks; ²³ until a dart strikes through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare and does not know that it is for his soul. ²⁴ And now listen to me, sons, and attend to the words of my mouth. ²⁵ Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, do not go astray in her paths. ²⁶ For she has cast down many wounded; yea, many strong men have been slain by her. ²⁷ Her house is the way to hell, going down to the rooms of death.

³ But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. ⁴ Every man praying or prophesying with his head covered dishonors his Head. ⁵ But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head unveiled dishonors her head; for that is even the same as if she were shaved. ⁶ For if the woman is not veiled, let her also be shorn. But if it is a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be veiled. ⁷ For a man indeed ought not to have his head covered, because he is the image and glory of God. But the woman is the glory of the man. ⁸ For the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man. ⁹ Nor was the man created for the woman, but the woman for the man. ¹⁰ For this reason the woman ought to have authority on her head because of the angels.

¹¹ Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. ¹² But I do not allow a woman to teach, or to exercise authority over a man, but to be in silence. ¹³ For Adam was first formed, then Eve. ¹⁴ And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

²⁴ And his daughter was Sherah, who built Beth-horon the lower, and the upper, and Uzzen-sherah.

²⁰ Wisdom cries outside; she utters her voice in the streets; ²¹ she cries in the chief place of gathering, in the openings of the gates; in the city she utters her words, saying,

³⁸ And as they went, it happened that He entered into a certain village. And a certain woman named Martha received Him into her house. ³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. ⁴⁰ But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she came to Him and said, Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me. ⁴¹ And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things. ⁴² But one thing is needful, and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
