¹ And Abraham departed thence toward the southcontrie & dwelled betwene Cades and Sur and soiourned in Gerar. ² And Abraham sayde of Sara hys wyfe that she was hys syster. Than Abimelech kyng of Gerar sent and set Sara away. ³ And God came to Abimelech by nyght in a dreame & sayd vnto him: Se, thou art but a dead man for the womans sake whych thou haste taken awaye, for she is a mans wyfe. ⁴ But Abimelech had not yet come nye her, & therfore sayde: Lorde wylt thou sley ryghtewes people? ⁵ sayde not he vnto me, that she was hys syster? yea and sayde not she herself that he was her brother? wyth a pure herte and innocent handes haue I done thys. ⁶ And God sayde vnto hym in a dreame. I wot it wel that thou dyddest it in the purenesse of thy herte. And therfore I kepte the that thou shouldest not synne agaynst me, nether suffred I the to come nygh her. ⁷ Nowe therfore delyuer the man his wyfe agayne, for he is a Prophete. And let him pray for the that thou mayst lyue. But and yf thou delyuer her not agayn, be sure that thou shalt dye the deth, wyth al that thou hast. ⁸ Than Abimelech rose vp be tymes in the mornyng and called al his seruauntes, & told all these thynges in their eares, and the men were sore afrayde. ⁹ And Abimelech called Abraham and sayd vnto him: What hast thou done vnto us, & what haue I offended the, that thou shouldest brynge on me and on my kingdome so great a synne? thou hast done dedes vnto me that ought not to be done. ¹⁰ And Abimelech sayde moreouer vnto Abraham: What sawest thou that moued the to do thys thynge? ¹¹ And Abraham answered: I thought that peraduenture the feare of God was not in thys place, & that they shulde sley me for my wyfes sake: ¹² yet in very dede she is my syster, the doughter of my father, but not of my mother: and became my wife. ¹³ And after god caused me to wandre out of my fathers house, I sayd vnto her: This kyndnesse shalt thou shewe vnto me in all places where we come, that thou saye of me, howe that I am thy brother. ¹⁴ Than toke Abimelech shepe and oxen, men seruauntes & wemen seruauntes & gaue them vnto Abraham, & delyuered hym Sara hys wyfe agayn. ¹⁵ And Abimelech sayde: beholde the land lyeth before the, dwel where it pleaseth the best. ¹⁶ And vnto Sara he sayde: Se I haue geuen thy brother a thousand peeces of siluer, behold this thing shal be a couering to thyne eyes & vnto al that are wyth the and vnto all men an excuse. ¹⁷ And so Abraham prayd vnto God, & god healed Abimelech and his wyfe and his maydens, so that they bare chyldren. ¹⁸ For the lord had closed to, all the matryces of the house of Abimelech, because of Sara Abrahams wyfe.

²⁰ Ye thoughte euel vnto me, but God turned it vnto good to brynge to passe, as it is thys daye, euen to saue moche people a lyue.

¹ These are the generations, of the sonnes of Noe: of Sem Ham, and Iapheth, which begat them children after the floude. ² The sonnes of Iapheth were: Gomyr, Magog, Madai, Iauan, Tuball, Mesech, & Thyras. ³ And the sonnes of Gomyr were Ascenas, Riphat and Togarma. ⁴ And the sonnes of Iauan were: Elisa Tharsis, Cithim, and Dodanim. ⁵ Of these came the Isles of the Gentils in theyr countryes, euery man in hys speach kynred, & nation. ⁶ The sonnes of Ham were: Chus, Misraim, Phut, & Canaan. ⁷ The sonns of Chus were Seba, Heuyla, Sabta, Rayma, and Sabtema. And the sonnes of Rayma were: Sheba, & Dedan. ⁸ Thus also begat Nemrod which began to be myghty in the earth. ⁹ He was a myghty hunter in the syghte of the Lorde: Wherof came the prouerbe: he is as Nemrod that myghty hunter in the syght of the Lord. ¹⁰ And the begynnyng of hys kyngdome was Babell, Erech, Achad, & Chalne in the lande of Synear: ¹¹ Oute of that land came Assur, & builded Niniue, & the citye Rehoboth, & Calah, ¹² and Ressen betwene Niniue & Calah. That is a greate cytye. ¹³ And Mizrim begat Ludim, Enamim, Leabim, Naphtuhim, ¹⁴ Pathrusim, & Casluhim: from whence came the Philystyns, and the Capththerynes. ¹⁵ Canaan also begat Zidon hys eldest sonne & Heth, ¹⁶ Iebusi, Emori, Girgosi, ¹⁷ Him, Arki. Sini, ¹⁸ Aruadi, Zemari, & Harmati. And afterward sprange the kinreds of the Cananites. ¹⁹ And the costes of the Cananites were from Sydon tyll thou come to Gerara & to Asa, & tyl thou come to Sodoma, Gomorra, Adama, Zeboim, euen vnto Lasa. ²⁰ These were the chyldren of Ham in theyr kynredes, tonges, Landes, and nations. ²¹ And Sem the father of all the chyldren of Eber, & the eldeste brother of Iapheth begat children also. ²² And his sonnes were Elam, Assur, Arphachsad, Lud & Aram. ²³ And the children of Aram were: Vr, Hul, Gether & Mas. ²⁴ And Arphachsad begat Sala, & Sala begat Eber. ²⁵ And Eber begat two sonnes. The name of the one was Peleg, for in his time the earth was deuided. And the name of his brother was Iaketan. ²⁶ Iaketan begat Almodad, Saleph, Hyzarmoneth, Iarah, ²⁷ Hadoram, Vsall, Dikela, ²⁸ Obal, Abimael, Seba, ²⁹ Ophir, Henila & Iobab. Al these are tho sonnes of Iaketan. ³⁰ And the dwellynge of them was from Mesa vntyl thou come vnto Sephara a mountayne of the east lande. ³¹ These are the sonnes of Sem in their kinredes, languages, contryes, and nations. ³² These are the kinredes of the sonnes of Noe, in their generations & nations. And of these came the People that were in the worlde after the floude.

¹ Beholde what loue the father hath shewed on vs, that we shoulde be called the sonnes of God. For this cause the worlde knoweth you not, because it knoweth not him. ² Dearly beloued, now are we the sonnes of God, and yet it doeth not appeare, what we shalbe. But we knowe that when it shal appere, we shalbe like him. For we shall se him as he is.

¹ That whyche was from the begynninge, whyche we haue hearde, whyche we haue sene with oure eyes, which we haue loked vpon and our handes haue handeled, of the word of the lyfe. ² For the life appeared, and we haue sene, and beare wytnes, and shewe vnto you that eternall lyfe, whyche was wyth the father, and appeared to vs. ³ That whyche we haue sene and hearde declare we vnto you, that ye maye haue felowshyp wyth vs, and that our felowshype may be wyth the father and hys sonne Iesus Christ. ⁴ And this wryte we vnto you that youre ioye may be ful. ⁵ And this is the tydinges that we haue heard of him, and declare vnto you, that God is lyghte and in him is no darckenes at al, ⁶ yf we saye that we haue felowshippe with him, and yet walke in darckenes, we lye, and do not the trueth, ⁷ but and yf we walke (in light) euen as he is in lighte, then haue we felowshyppe wyth hym, and the bloude of Iesus Christe his sonne clenseth vs from all sinne. ⁸ If we saye that we haue no sinne, we deceiue oure selues, and trueth is not in vs. ⁹ If we knowledge oure sinnes, he is faythfull and iust, to forgeue vs our sinnes, and to clense vs from al vnrightuousnes. ¹⁰ If we say we haue not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in vs.

¹ After these deades, tydynges were brought vnto Ioseph, that his father was sycke. And he toke with him his two sonnes, Manasses & Ephraim. ² Then was it sayde vnto Iacob: beholde, thy sonne Ioseph commeth vnto the. And Israel toke hys strength vnto him, and sat vp on the bedd, ³ & sayd vnto Ioseph: God almyghtie apeared vnto me at Lus in the land of Canaan, and blessed me, ⁴ and sayd vnto me: beholde, I wyl make the growe and wyl multiplye the, and wyll make a great nombre of people of the, and wyl geue this lande vnto the & vnto thy seed after the vnto an euerlastyng possession. ⁵ Now therfore, thy two sonnes Manasses & Ephraim, which were borne vnto the before I came to the, into Egypte, shalbe myne: euen as Ruben and Symeon shal they be vnto me. ⁶ And the children which thou getest after them, shalbe thyne owne: but shalbe called wyth the names of their brethren in their inheritaunces. ⁷ And after I came from Mesopotamia, Rahel dyed vpon my hand in the land of Canaan, by the waye: when I had but a feldes brede to goo vnto Ephrat. And I buried her there in the waye to Ephrat whyche is nowe called Bethlehem. ⁸ And Israhel behelde Iosephs sonnes and sayde: what are these? ⁹ And Ioseph sayde vnto his father: they are my sonnes, which god hath geuen me here. And he sayde: brynge them to me, and let me blesse them. ¹⁰ And the eyes of Israel were dymme for age, so that he coulde not well see. And he brought them to hym, and he kyssed them and embraced them. ¹¹ And Israell sayde vnto Ioseph: I had not thought to haue sene thy face, and yet loo, God hath shewed it me and also thy seed. ¹² And Ioseph toke them awaye from his lappe, and they fell on the grounde before hym. ¹³ Than toke Ioseph them both: Ephraim in hys ryghte hande towarde Israels lefte hand & Manasses in his left hande, towarde Israels ryghte hande, and brought them vnto hym. ¹⁴ And Israel stretched oute hys ryghte hand & layd it vpon Ephraims head which was the yonger, and hys lyft hande vpon Manasses heed, crossynge hys handes, for Manasses was the elder. ¹⁵ And he blessed Ioseph saying: God before whome my fathers Abraham and Isaac dyd walke, and the god whyche had fedde me all my lyfe longe vnto thys day, ¹⁶ And the augell which hath delyuered me from al euyll, blesse these laddes: that they may be called after my name, and after my father Abraham and Isaac, and that they may growe & multiplye vpon the erth. ¹⁷ When Ioseph sawe that hys father layde his ryght hand vpon the heade of Ephraim, it displeased him. And he lyfte vp his fathers hande, to haue remoued it from Ephrayms head vnto Manasses head, ¹⁸ and sayde vnto hys father: Not so my father, for thys is the eldest. Put thy ryght hande vpon hys head. ¹⁹ And hys father wold not: but sayd: I knowe it well my sonne, I knowe it well. He shalbe also a people & shalbe great. But of a truth hys yonger brother shalbe greatter than he, and hys seed shall be full of people. ²⁰ And he blessed them sayinge. At the ensample of these, the Israelites shal blesse and say: God make the as Ephraim and as manasses. Thus sett he Ephraim before Manasses. ²¹ And Israel sayde vnto Ioseph: beholde, I dye. And God shalbe with you & brynge you agayn vnto the land of your fathers. ²² Moreouer I geue vnto the, a porcyon of lande aboue thy brethren, whiche I gat oute of the handes of the Amorytes wyth my swerde & wyth my bowe.

⁷ But and yf thou dost euell, by & by thy synne lyeth open in the dore. Notwithstandyng let it be subdued vnto the, and sea thou rule it.

¹ And God remembred Noe & al the beastes & al the catel that were with him in the arck. And God made a wynde to blowe vpon the erth, & the waters ceased: ² & the fountaynes of the depe & the wyndowes of heauen were stopte, & the rayne of heauen was forbydden, ³ & the waters returned from of the erth, & abated after the end of an hundred and .l. dayes. ⁴ And the arcke rested vpon the mountains of Ararat, the .xvij. daye of the .vij. moneth. ⁵ And the waters went awaye, & decreased vntyll the .x. moneth. And the fyrst day of the .x. moneth, the toppes of the mounteyns appered. ⁶ And after the ende of .xl. dayes Noe opened the window of the arck which he had made, ⁷ and sent forth a rauen, which went out, euer goynge & commynge agayne, vntyl the waters were dryed vp vpon the earth. ⁸ Then sent he forth a doue from him, to wete whether the waters were fallen from of the earth. ⁹ And when the doue could finde no restyng place for hyr fote, she returned to him agayne vnto the arcke, for the waters were vpon the face of al the earth. And he put out hys hande, and toke hyr, and pulled hyr to hym into the Arcke. ¹⁰ And he abode yet seuen daies more, & sent out the doue agayne oute of the arcke, ¹¹ & the doue came to him agayne about euentyde, & beholde, there was in hyr mouth a lefe of an olyue tre whyche she had plucked: whereby Noe perceiued that the waters were abated vpon the earth. ¹² And he taried yet seuen other dayes, and sent forth the doue, whyche from thence forth came no more agayne to hym. ¹³ And it came to passe, the sixe hundred and one yere & the fyrst day of the fyrste moneth, that the waters were dried vp vpon the earth. And Noe toke of the hatches of the arcke, & loked: and beholde, the face of the earth was drye. ¹⁴ So by the .xxvij. day of the second moneth the earth was drye. ¹⁵ And God spake vnto Noe, saying. ¹⁶ Come out of the arcke, boeth thou & thy wyfe & thy sons & thy sonnes wyues with the. ¹⁷ And al the beastes that are wt the whatsoeuer fleshe it be, both foule & catel, & all maner wormes that crepe on the earth bringe oute wyth the & let them moue, grow & multiply vpon the erth. ¹⁸ And Noe came out, & hys sonnes, & his wyfe, and hys sonnes wiues wyth him. ¹⁹ And all the beastes, and all the wormes, and all the foules and all that moued vpon the erth, came also out of the arcke, all of one kynde togyther. ²⁰ And Noe made an aulter vnto the Lord, & toke of all maner of cleane beastes, & all maner of clene foules, & offred sacrifice vpon the aultare. ²¹ And the Lorde smelled a swete sauour, & sayd in his hert: I wyll henceforth no more cursse the earthe for mans sake, for the imagination of mans herte is euyll, euen from the very youth of him. Moreouer I wyl not destroy from henceforthe all that lyueth as I haue done. ²² Neyther shal sowynge time and heruest, cold and hete, somer, and wynter, daye and nyghte ceasse, as longe as the earth endureth.

²⁶ And God sayde: let vs make man in oure similitude & after our lycknesse: that he may haue rule ouer the fysh of the sea, and ouer the foules of the ayre, & ouer catell, and ouer all the erth, and ouer all wormes that crepe on the erth. ²⁷ And God created man after hys likenes, after the lycknesse of god created he hym: male & female created he them. ²⁸ And God blessed them, & God sayde vnto them: Growe and multiplye & fyl the erth, & subdue it, & haue dominion ouer the fyshes of the sea, and ouer the foules of the ayre, and ouer al the beastes that moue on the erth.

¹ In the beginnynge GOD created heauen and erth. ² The erth was voyde and empty, and darcknesse was vpon the depe, and the spirite of God moued vpon the water. ³ Than God sayd: let there be light: & there was lyght. ⁴ And God sawe the lyght that it was good: & deuyded the lyght from the darcknesse, ⁵ & called the lyght the daye, & the darcknesse the nyght: and so of the euenyng & mornyng was made the fyrst daye. ⁶ And God sayde: let there be a fyrmament betwene the waters, & let it deuyde the waters a sonder. ⁷ Than God made the fyrmament, and parted the waters whyche were vnder the fyrmament, from the waters that were aboue the fyrmament: And it was so. ⁸ And God called the fyrmament Heauen. And so of the euenynge and mornyng was made the seconde daye. ⁹ And God sayde: let the waters that are vnder heauen gather them selues vnto one place, that the drye lande may appere. And it came so to passe. ¹⁰ And GOD called the drye lande the erth, and the gatheryng together of waters called he the sea. And God sawe that it was good. ¹¹ And God sayde: let the erth brynge forth herbe and grasse that sowe seed, and fruteful trees, that bere frute euery one in his kynde, hauyng their seed in them selues vpon the erth. And it came so to passe. ¹² And the erth brought forth herbe and grasse sowing seed euery one in hys kynde, and trees berynge frute, and hauynge theyr seed in themselues, euery one in hys kynde. And God sawe that it was good, ¹³ and then of the euenyng and mornyng was made the thyrde daye. ¹⁴ Than sayde God: let there be lightes in the fyrmament of heauen, to deuyde the day from the nyght, that they may be vnto sygnes, seasons, dayes and yeares. ¹⁵ And let them be lyghtes in the fyrmament of heauen, to shyne vpon the erth: And so it was. ¹⁶ And God made two greate lyghtes: A greater lyght to rule the daye, and a lesse lyght to rule the nyght: and he made sterres also. ¹⁷ And God put them in the fyrmament of heauen to shyne vpon the erth, ¹⁸ and to rule the daye and the nyght: and to deuyde the lyght from darcknesse. And God sawe that it was good: ¹⁹ & so of the euenyng & mornyng was made the fourth day. ²⁰ And God said: let the water bryng forth creatures that moue and haue lyfe, & foules for to flye ouer the erth vnder the fyrmament of heauen. ²¹ And God created greate whalles and al maner of creatures that lyue & moue, whych the waters brought forth in their kyndes, & all maner of fethered foules in theyr kyndes. And God sawe that it was good: ²² & God blessed them sayinge: Growe and multyplie and fyll the waters of the seas: and let the foules multyplye vpon the erth. ²³ And so of the euening & morning was made the fyfth day. ²⁴ And God sayd: let the erth brynge forth lyuynge creatures in their kyndes: catell and wormes & beastes of the erth in their kyndes, & so it came to passe. ²⁵ And God made the beastes of the erth in their kyndes, and catell in their kyndes, & al maner wormes of the erth in their kyndes: & God saw that it was good. ²⁶ And God sayde: let vs make man in oure similitude & after our lycknesse: that he may haue rule ouer the fysh of the sea, and ouer the foules of the ayre, & ouer catell, and ouer all the erth, and ouer all wormes that crepe on the erth. ²⁷ And God created man after hys likenes, after the lycknesse of god created he hym: male & female created he them. ²⁸ And God blessed them, & God sayde vnto them: Growe and multiplye & fyl the erth, & subdue it, & haue dominion ouer the fyshes of the sea, and ouer the foules of the ayre, and ouer al the beastes that moue on the erth. ²⁹ And God sayde: see, I haue geuen you al herbes that sowe seed, whyche are on all the erth, & all maner trees that haue frute in them and sowe seed: to be meate for you ³⁰ and for al beastes of the erth, and vnto all foules of the ayre, and vnto all that crepeth on the erth, where in is lyfe, that they maye haue all maner herbes and grasse for to eate, and euen so it was. ³¹ And God behelde all that he had made, and loo, they were exceadinge good: & so of the euenynge and mornyng was made the syxte daye.
