²³ speake vnto the chyldren of Israel and saye: Ye shal eate no maner fatte of oxen, shepe or gotes, ²⁴ neuerthelater that fatte of the beast that dyeth alone & the fatt of that whych is torne with wylde beastes, maye be occupied in all maner vses: but ye shall in no wyse eat of it.

¹ And the Lorde spake vnto Moses and Aaron sayinge, ² speake vnto the children of Israel and say, these are the beastes which shall eate amonge all the beastes that are on the earth: ³ whatsoeuer hathe hoofe and deuideth it into two clawes and chewe cudde amonge the beastes that shall ye eate. ⁴ Neuertheles, these shall ye not eate of them that chewe cud and haue hoofes. The camel for he cheweth cud but he deuyded not the hoofe into two clawes, therfore he shall be vncleane vnto you. ⁵ And the cony for he cheweth the cud but deuideth not the hoofe into two clawes, therefore he is vncleane to you. ⁶ And the hare, for he lykewyse cheweth the cud, but deuideth not the hoofe into .ij. clawes, he is therfore vnclene to you. ⁷ And the swyne, for thoughe he deuyde the hooffe into two clawes, yet he cheweth not the cudde, and therfore is vncleane to you. ⁸ Of theyr fleshe se that ye eate not, and theyr carkasses se that ye touche not, for they are vncleane to you. ⁹ These shal ye eate of al that are in the waters: whatsoeuer hath fynnes & skales in the waters, seas, & ryuers, that shal ye eat. ¹⁰ And all that haue not fynnes & skales in the seas & ryuers of al that moue and lyue in the waters shal ye abhorre. ¹¹ Se that ye eate not of theyr flesh, and also that ye abhore theyr carkases: ¹² for all that haue no fynnes nor scales in the waters, shalbe abhomination vnto you ¹³ These are the foules which ye shal abhorre, & whych shal not be eaten, for they are an abhomination. The egle, the goshauke, the cormoraunte, ¹⁴ the kyete, the vulture & al his kind ¹⁵ & all kynde of rauens, ¹⁶ the estriche, the nightcrowe, the cocow, the sparowhauke, & al the kynde: ¹⁷ the lytle oule, the storcke, the greate oule, ¹⁸ the backe, the pellicane, the pye, ¹⁹ the heron, the iay with the kynd, the lapwyng, and the swalowe. ²⁰ And all foules that crepe & go vpon al foure shalbe an abhomination to you. ²¹ Yet these may ye eate of al the foules that moue and go vpon .iiij. fete: euen those that haue no knees aboue vpon theyr fete to lepe wyth al vpon the erth, ²² euen these of them ye maye eate: the arbe & al hys kynde: the Selaam with al hys kynde: the Hargol and all the kynde, the Hagab and all hys kynde. ²³ All other foules that moue & haue .iiij. fete, shalbe abhominacion vnto you. ²⁴ In soche ye shalbe vncleane, whosoeuer touche the carkesse of them shalbe vncleane vnto the euen, ²⁵ & whosoeuer bereth the carkasse of them, shall washe his clothes, & so shalbe vncleane vntyll euen. ²⁶ Among al maner beastes, that haue hoofes and deuide them not in to two clawes or that chewe not the cud, shalbe vncleane vnto you: & all that toucheth them shalbe vncleane. ²⁷ And al that goeth vpon hys handes amonge al maner beastes that go on al foure fete are vncleane vnto you: & as many as touch their carkasses, shalbe vncleane vntyll the euen. ²⁸ And he that beareth the carkasse of them, shall wasshe hys clothes & be vncleane vntyll the euen, for soche are vncleane vnto you. ²⁹ And these are also vncleane to you among the thynges that crepe vpon the erth: the wesell, the mouse, the toode and all hys kynde, ³⁰ the hedgehogge, stellio, the lizerte, the snayle and the molle: ³¹ these are vncleane to you amonge all that moue, and all that touche them when they be dead, shalbe vncleane vntyll the euen. ³² And what soeuer any of the dead carkasses of them fall vpon, shalbe vncleane: whatsoeuer vessell of wood it be, or rayment, or skynne, or bagge or what soeuer thing it be that any worke is wroughte with all. And they shalbe plunged in the water, & be vncleane vntill the euen, and then they shallbe cleane agayne. ³³ All maner of erthen vessell wher in to any of them falleth is vncleane with all that there in is: & ye shall breake it. ³⁴ All maner meate that is eaten, yf any soche water come vpon it, it shalbe vncleane. And al maner dryncke that is droncke in al maner soche vessels shalbe vncleane. ³⁵ And whether it be ouen or kettel it shal be broken. For they are vncleaue and shalbe vncleane vnto you: ³⁶ Neuerthelater, yet the fountaines & welles & pondes of water, shalbe cleane styll. But whosoeuer toucheth their carkesses, shal be vncleane. ³⁷ If the dead carkasse of any soch fal vpon any seed vsed to sowe, it shall yet be cleane styll: ³⁸ but & yf any water be poured vpon the seed and afterward the dead carkesse of them fal theron, then it shalbe vncleane vnto you. ³⁹ If any beast of which ye may eate dye, he that toucheth the dead carkasse shalbe vncleane vntyl the euen. ⁴⁰ And he that eateth of any soche dead carkasse, shall wasshe hys clothes & remayne vncleane vntyl the euen. And he also that beareth the carkesse of it, shall wasshe hys clothes, & be vncleane vntyl euen. ⁴¹ Al that scrauleth vpon the erth, is an abhominacion, and shall not be eaten. ⁴² And whatsoeuer goeth vpon the breast, and whatsoeuer goeth vpon .iiij. or moo fete amonge all that scrauleth vpon the erth, of that se ye eate not: for they are abhominable. ⁴³ Make not youre soules abominable wyth nothyng that crepeth, nether make your soules vncleane wt them: that ye shuld be defyled therby. ⁴⁴ For I am the Lord your god, be sanctifyed therfore that ye may be holy, for I am holy: & defyle not your soules with any maner thing that crepeth vpon the erth. ⁴⁵ For I am the Lord that brought you out of the lande of Egypte to be youre God: be holy therfore, for I am holye. ⁴⁶ This is the lawe of beest & foule & of al maner thyng that lyueth and moueth in the water & of all thynges that crepe vpon the erth, ⁴⁷ that ye may put difference betwene vncleane & cleane, & betwene the beastes that are eaten and the beastes that are not eaten.

²³ speake vnto the chyldren of Israel and saye: Ye shal eate no maner fatte of oxen, shepe or gotes,

³ He humbled the and made the hongry and fedde the with Manna, whych neyther thou nor thy father knew of to make the know that a man must not lyue by breade onely: but by all that proceadeth out of the mouth of the Lord must a man liue.

⁸ Remoue fro me vanite and lyes: geue me neither pouerte nor ryches, onely graunte me a necessary lyuyng. ⁹ Lest if I be to full, I denye the, & say: what felow is the Lord? And lest I beynge constrayned thorow pouerte, fall vnto stealyng, and forsweare the name of my God.

⁶ Moreouer the Lorde of Hostes shall ones prepare a feaste, for all people vpon the hyll: A plenteous, costly, pleasaunt feaste, of fat & wel fede beastes, of swete & most pure thinges.

¹¹ Then Daniel aunswered Melassar, whom the chefe chamberlayne had set ouer Daniell, Ananias, Misael and Asarias, & sayde: ¹² O proue but ten dayes with thy seruauntes, and let vs haue potage to eate, & water to drincke: ¹³ then loke vpon oure faces, & theyrs that eate of the kynges meate. And as thou seyst, so deale wyth thy seruauntes. ¹⁴ So he consented to them in thys matter, and proued them .x. dayes. ¹⁵ And after the ten dayes, theyr faces were better lykyng & fatter, then al the younge spryngaldes whiche ate of the kynges meate. ¹⁶ Thus Melassar toke awaye theyr meate, and wyne, and gaue them potage therefore.

¹ In the thyrde yeare of the raygne of Iehoakim kinge of Iuda, came Nabuchodonosor kyng of Babylon vnto Ierusalem, & beseged it ² and the Lord deliuered Iehoakim the kinge of Iuda into his hande, with certayne ornamentes of the house of God, whiche he caryed awaye vnto the lande of Sennar, to the house of his God, and there he broughte them into hys Goddes treasurye. ³ And the kyng spake vnto Asphanaz the chefe chamberlayne, that he shulde brynge hym certayne of the chyldren of Israel, that were come of the kynges sede & of prynces, ⁴ yonge spryngaldes wythout anye blemyshe, but fayre & welfauoured, instructe in all wisdome, connyng and vnderstanding: whiche were able to stande in the kynges palace, to reade and to learne for to speake Caldeish. ⁵ Vnto these the king appoynted a certayne porcyon of hys owne meate, and of the wyne, which he drancke hym selfe, so to noryshe them thre yeare: that afterwarde they myght stande before the kynge. ⁶ Amonge these nowe were certayne of the chyldren of Iuda: namely Daniel, Ananias, Misael & Azarias. ⁷ Vnto these the chefe chamberlayne gaue other names, & called Daniel, Balthazar: Ananias, Sidrach, Misael, Misach, and Asarias, Abednago. ⁸ But Daniel was at a poynte wyth hym self, that he wolde not be defyled thorowe the kynges meate, nor the wyne whiche he droncke. And this he desyred of the chefe Chamberlaine, leste he shulde defyle hym selfe. ⁹ So God gaue Daniel fauoure and grace before the chefe chamberlayne, ¹⁰ that he said vnto hym: I am afraied of my Lorde the kynge, whiche hath appoynted you youre meate & drinck: lest he spye your faces to be worse lykyng then the other springaldes of youre age, and so ye shall make me lose my head vnto the kynge. ¹¹ Then Daniel aunswered Melassar, whom the chefe chamberlayne had set ouer Daniell, Ananias, Misael and Asarias, & sayde: ¹² O proue but ten dayes with thy seruauntes, and let vs haue potage to eate, & water to drincke: ¹³ then loke vpon oure faces, & theyrs that eate of the kynges meate. But among them all were founde none suche as Daniel, Ananias, Misael, and Asarias. Therfor stode they before the kynge, ²⁰ whiche in all wysdome and matters of vnderstandynge, that he enquered of them, founde them ten tymes better then all the sothsayers and charmers, that were in all hys realme. ²¹ And Daniel abode styl, vnto the fyrste yeare of kynge Cyrus.

²⁵ Whatsoeuer is solde in the market, that eate and axe no questions for consciens sake.

¹⁸ and be not drounke wt wyne. wherin is excesse, but be fulfylled wyth the spirite,

⁹ Wherfore, take vnto the wheate, barlye beanes, growell sede, Millium and fitches: and put these together in a vessell, and make the loaues of bred therof, accordynge to the nombre of the dayes that thou must lye vpon thy side: that thou mayeste haue bred to eate, for thre hundreth and .xc. dayes.

⁴ He aunswered and said: it is written, man shall not lyue by breade onlye, but by euerye worde that procedeth out of the mouth of God.

³⁵ And Iesus sayde vnto them: I am that breade of lyfe. He that commeth to me, shall not honger: and he that beleueth on me shall not thurste.

²⁰ Kepe no company with wine bybbers & ryotous eaters of flesh ²¹ for such as be dronkards & riotous shal come to pouerte, & he that is geuen to much slepe shall go wt a ragged cote.

³ And all that moueth vpon the earth hauynge lyfe, shall be your meat: Euen as the grene herbes so giue I you al thinge.

²⁹ And God sayde: see, I haue geuen you al herbes that sowe seed, whyche are on all the erth, & all maner trees that haue frute in them and sowe seed: to be meate for you

¹⁹ Either knowe ye not howe that youre bodies are the temple of the holye ghoste, whyche is in you, whome ye haue of God, and how that ye are not your owne? ²⁰ For ye are dearlye boughte. Therfore glorifye ye God in youre bodyes, and in youre spyrytes, for they are Goddes.
