¹ Fayth is a sure confydence of thynges which are hoped for, & a certayntye of thynges which are not sene.

¹ In their aduersite they shal seke me, and said: come, let vs turne againe to the lord: for he hathe smyten vs, & he shall heale vs: ² He hath wounde vs, & he shall bind vs vp agayne after two dayes shall he quicken vs, in the thirde day he shal rayse vs vp, so that we shal lyue in his sight. ³ Then shall we haue vnderstanding, and endeuoure oure selues to knowe the Lorde. He shall go forth as the springe of the daye, & come vnto vs as the eueninge and morninge rayne vpon the earth. ⁴ O Ephraim, what shal I do vnto the? O Iuda, how shall I entreate the? seynge youre loue is like a morning cloude, and lyke a dew that goeth early awaye. ⁵ Therfore haue I cut doune the Prophetes, and let them be slayne for my wordes sake: so that thy punyshment shall come to lyghte. ⁶ For I haue pleasure in louinge kindnesse, and not in offerynge: yea, in the knoweledge of God, more then in burnt sacryfyce. ⁷ But euen like as Adam did, so haue they broken my couenaunt, & set me at naught. ⁸ Galaad is a city of wycked doers, of malycious people and bloudshedders. ⁹ The multytude of the priestes is lyke an heape of theues murtherers and bloudthursty: for they haue wroughte abhomynacyon. ¹⁰ Horryble thinges haue I sene in the house of Israel, there playeth Ephraim the Harlot, and Israel is defyled: ¹¹ but Iuda shall haue an haruest for hym selfe, when I returne the captyuyte of my people.

¹⁶ For God so loueth the worlde, that he hath geuen his only sonne, that none that beleue in him, should perishe: but should haue euerlastinge lyfe. ¹⁷ For God sent not his sonne into the world, to condempne the worlde: but that the world through him, might be saued.

⁶ whyche wyll rewarde euerye man according to hys dedes:

¹⁹ Either knowe ye not howe that youre bodies are the temple of the holye ghoste, whyche is in you, whome ye haue of God, and how that ye are not your owne? ²⁰ For ye are dearlye boughte. Therfore glorifye ye God in youre bodyes, and in youre spyrytes, for they are Goddes.

¹¹ Dearely beloued, I beseche you as straungers and pylgremes, obstayne from fleshely lustes, which fyght agaynste the soule,

⁹ But ye are a chosen generacyon, a royall priesthode, an holye nacyon and a peculyar people that ye shoulde shewe the vertues of hym that called you oute of darkenes into his marueylous lyght,

³⁶ Who geueth sure wysdome or stedfast vnderstandyng?

¹ Of Dauid. The Lorde is my lyghte and my health: whome then shoulde I feare? the Lorde is the strength of my life, for whom then shuld I be afraied? ² Therfore when the wycked, euen myne enemies and my foes, came vpon me, to eate vp my flesh, stombled and fell. ³ Thoughe an hooste of men were layed agaynst me, yet shall not my hert be afrayed: and though there rose vp warre agaynst me, yet wyll I put my trust in him. ⁴ One thynge haue I desyred of the Lorde, which I wyll requyre: namelye, that I maye dwel in the house of the Lorde all the dayes of my lyfe, to beholde the fayre beutye of the Lorde, and to viset his temple.

²⁰ So that his inuisible thinges, that is to saye, hys eternall power and Godhead, are vnderstand & sene by the workes from the creation of the worlde. So that they are wythout excuse,

⁸ Furthermore brethren, whatsoeuer thynges are true, whatsoeuer thinges are honest, whatsoeuer thinges are iuste, whatsoeuer thinges are pure, whatsoeuer thinges pertaine to loue, whatsoeuer thinges are of honeste report: yf there be anie vertuous thinge yf there be anye laudable thinge,

¹² For the word of God is quicke and myghty in operacion, and sharper then anye two edged swerde, and entreth through, euen vnto the diuiding a sonder of the soule and the spirite, and of the ioyntes and the marie, and iudgeth the thoughtes and the ententes of the herte:

¹⁴ For the naturall man perceiueth not the thinges of the spyrite of God. For they are but folishnes vnto him. Neither can he perceiue them, because he is spiritually examined.
