¹ Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

¹ And seeing the multitudes, he went up on the mountain: and when he sat down, his disciples came to him: ² And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, ³ Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Blessed are those who mourn: for they shall be comforted. ⁵ Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. ⁶ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness: for they shall be filled. ⁷ Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. ⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. ⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God. ¹⁰ Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. ¹² Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

¹ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ² He was in the beginning with God. ³ All things were made by him; and without him was nothing made that was made. ⁴ In him was life; and the life was the light of men. ⁵ And the light shines in the darkness; and the darkness has not comprehended it. ⁶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. ⁷ He came as a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. ⁸ He was not the Light, but was sent to bear witness to the Light. ⁹ The true Light, which enlightens every man, was coming into the world. ¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made by him, but the world did not know him. ¹¹ He came to his own, and his own did not receive him. ¹² But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become the children of God, even to those who believe in his name: ¹³ Who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. ¹⁴ And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father,) full of grace and truth. ¹⁵ John bore witness to him, and cried out, saying, This was he of whom I spoke, He who comes after me ranks above me: for he was before me. ¹⁶ And of his fulness we have all received, and grace upon grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No man has seen God at any time; but God the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known. ¹⁹ And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you? ²⁰ And he confessed, and did not deny; but confessed, I am not the Christ. ²¹ And they asked him, What then? Are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. Are you the prophet? And he answered, No. ²² Then they said to him, Who are you? that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself? ²³ He said, I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as the prophet Isaiah said. ²⁴ Now they had been sent by the Pharisees. ²⁵ And they asked him, Why do you baptize then, if you are not the Christ, or Elijah, or the prophet? ²⁶ John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but one stands among you, whom you do not know; ²⁷ It is he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie. ²⁸ These things took place in Bethany, beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. ²⁹ The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man who ranks above me: for he was before me. ³¹ And I did not know him: but I came baptizing with water that he might be revealed to Israel. ³² And John bore witness, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained upon him. ³³ And I did not know him: but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, He upon whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. ³⁴ And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God. ³⁵ Again the next day John stood with two of his disciples; ³⁶ And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God! ³⁷ And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. ³⁸ Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, What do you seek? They said to him, Rabbi, (which translated means Teacher,) where are you staying? ³⁹ He said to them, Come and see. They came and saw where he was staying, and remained with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. ⁴⁰ One of the two who heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. ⁴¹ He first found his brother Simon, and said to him, We have found the Messiah, which translated means Christ. ⁴² And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus saw him, he said, You are Simon the son of John: you shall be called Cephas, which translated means, Peter. ⁴³ The day following Jesus decided to go forth into Galilee; and he found Philip, and said to him, Follow me. ⁴⁴ Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote about, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said to him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come and see. ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! ⁴⁸ Nathanael said to him, How do you know me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you. ⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and said to him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel. ⁵⁰ Jesus answered him, Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? you shall see greater things than these. ⁵¹ And he said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, You shall see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

¹⁹ Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God, and that you are not your own? ²⁰ For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

⁹ Then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust under punishment until the day of judgment:

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; ⁴ Who comforts us in all our troubles, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. ⁵ For as we abundantly share in the sufferings of Christ, so through Christ we also abundantly share in comfort.

¹⁹ And my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

⁴ Blessed are those who mourn: for they shall be comforted.

⁹ And he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, most gladly will I boast in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
