Job 1:1-22

1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil. 2 He had seven sons and three daughters. 3 He owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, one thousand head of cattle, and five hundred donkeys. He also had a large number of servants. In fact he was the greatest (richest) of all the Orientals in the East! 4 And his sons used to go and hold a feast in the house of each one upon his day; and they would send and invite their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. 5 When their time of feasting had concluded, Job would rise early in the morning to send for them and consecrate them to God. He would offer a burnt offering for each one, because Job thought, "Perhaps my children sinned by cursing God in their hearts." Job did this time and again. 6 Now on the day when God's sons came to present themselves before the LORD, Satan also came among them. 7 So the LORD said to Satan, "From where have you come?" Then Satan answered the LORD and said, "From roaming on the earth and from walking about in it." 8 The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil." 9 And Satan answering, said: Doth Job fear God in vain? 10 Have you not put a fence around him and his household and around all that belongs to him on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock has increased in the land. 11 However, stretch out your hand and strike everything he owns, and he will curse you to your face." 12 The LORD said to Satan, "Look, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself do not put forth your hand." So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD. 13 And a day came when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house. 14 a messenger approached Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the female donkeys were grazing nearby 15 And the Sabeans rushed in, and took all away, and slew the servants with the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell thee. 16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 17 While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you." 18 While he was still speaking, there also came another and said, Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house. 19 when a strong wind came straight out of the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on the young people, and they died. I alone escaped to tell you!" 20 And Job rose up and tore his robe, and shaved his head. And he fell down on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, Naked I came out of my mother's womb and naked I will return there. the LORD gave and the LORD has taken away, praise the name of the LORD. 22 In all this, Job did not sin, nor charge God with wrongdoing.

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strife, jealousy, fits of rage, selfishness, dissensions, factions, 21 and envy; drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Luke 8:22-25

22 One day Jesus said to His disciples, “Let us cross to the other side of the lake.” So He got into a boat with them and set out. 23 As they sailed, He fell asleep, and a squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. 24 The disciples went and woke Him saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters, and they subsided, and all was calm. 25 “Where is your faith?” He asked. Frightened and amazed, they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him!”

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

3 For though we live in the flesh, we do not wage war as the flesh does. 4 The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the world. Romans 14:10-13

10 Why, then, do you judge your brother? Or why do you belittle your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 11 It is written: “As surely as I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow before Me; every tongue will confess to God.” 12 So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us stop judging one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way.
