³ and I've filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and all kinds of craftsmanship ⁴ to create plans for work in gold, silver, and bronze, ⁵ and for cutting stones to set them, for carving wood, and for doing all kinds of craftsmanship.

⁴ Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ⁵ “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I sanctified you. I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” ⁶ I, Jeremiah, said: "Sovereign LORD, I do not know how to speak. I am only a child!" ⁷ the LORD said to me: "'Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go wherever I send you. You must say whatever I command you to say. ⁸ Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you," declares the LORD. ⁹ Then the LORD stretched out his hand and touched my mouth. the LORD said to me: »I have put my words in your mouth. ¹⁰ See, today I've appointed you to prophesy about nations and kingdoms, to pull up and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant." ¹¹ The word of the LORD came to me, asking, "What do you see, Jeremiah?" I replied, "I see an almond branch." ¹² Then the LORD said to me, "You have seen well; for I watch over my word to perform it." ¹³ The word of the LORD came to me a second time: "What do you see?" I replied, "I see a boiling pot, and its mouth is tilted away from the north." ¹⁴ Then the LORD said to me, "From the north disaster will pour out on all who live in the land, ¹⁵ For, look, I am calling to all the clans of the kingdoms of the north," declares the LORD, "and they will come and set each one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its surrounding walls, and against all the cities of Judah. ¹⁶ "I will pronounce judgment against my people because of all their wickedness. They abandoned me. They burned incense to other gods. They worshiped what their hands have made. ¹⁷ But you, you must gird your loins, and stand, and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be afraid of them, or I will shatter you before them. ¹⁸ For, behold, today I have made you a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against her princes, against her priests, and to the people of the land. ¹⁹ "They will fight you but they will not defeat you. I am with you, and I will rescue you," declares the LORD.

¹ Be careful not to perform your righteous acts before men to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. ² So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be praised by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward. ³ But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, ⁴ so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. ⁵ And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward. ⁶ But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. ⁷ But when you pray, do not babble like the heathen, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. ⁸ Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. ⁹ So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, ¹⁰ Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. ¹¹ Give us today our daily bread; ¹² And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors; ¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ ¹⁴ For if you forgive men their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵ »If you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. ¹⁶ When you fast, do not be somber like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward. ¹⁷ But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, ¹⁸ so that your fasting will not be obvious to men, but only to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. ¹⁹ Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. ²⁰ But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. ²¹ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. ²² The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. ²³ But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! ²⁴ No one can serve two masters: Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. ²⁵ Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? ²⁶ Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns—and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? ²⁷ Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his lifespan? ²⁸ And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin. ²⁹ But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was arrayed like one of these. ³⁰ If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? ³¹ Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' ³² For the pagans pursue all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them. ³³ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well. ³⁴ Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.

¹⁴ Do everything in love.

¹⁰ 'All the skilled workers among you are to come and make everything that the LORD commanded:

¹⁴ You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. ¹⁵ Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a lampstand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. ¹⁶ In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

¹⁰ As each has received a gift, minister it to one another as good administrators of God’s varied grace.

¹⁷ Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.

¹⁴ "For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. ¹⁵ To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. ¹⁶ The servant who had received five talents went and put them to work, and gained five more. ¹⁷ So also, he who had the two talents gained two more. ¹⁸ But the servant who had received one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money. ¹⁹ After a long time the master of those servants returned, and settled accounts with them. ²⁰ The servant who had received five talents came and presented five more. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’ ²¹ His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’ ²² Then the servant who had received two talents also came and said, ‘Master, you entrusted me with two talents. See, I have gained two more.’ ²³ His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’ ²⁴ Then he who had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed: ²⁵ So in my fear, I went and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what belongs to you.’ ²⁶ But his master answered him, 'You wicked and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed? ²⁷ Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received it back with interest. ²⁸ "'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. ²⁹ For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. But the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. ³⁰ And throw that worthless servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

⁶ We have different gifts according to the grace given us. If someone’s gift is prophecy, let him use it in proportion to his faith;
