Psalms 19:1-14

1 For the conclusion. A Psalm by David. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament proclaimeth the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech, and night after night they display knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. 4 Their voice has gone out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, 5 which is as a bridegroom coming out of his room, like a strong man rejoicing to run his course. 6 It rises from one end of the heavens. It circles around to the other. Nothing is hidden from its heat. 7 The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul, The testimonies of the LORD are stedfast, Making wise the simple, 8 The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commands of the LORD are pure, giving light to the eyes. 9 The fear of the LORD is clean, standing forever. The judgments of the LORD are true; they are altogether righteous. 10 They are more precious than gold, even much fine gold, and sweeter than honey and drops from the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them is your servant warned. In keeping them there is great reward. 12 Who can discern his errors? Forgive me from hidden errors. 13 Also, keep back your servant from arrogant sins; let them not rule over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Luke 8:1-56

1 Soon afterward, Jesus traveled from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with Him, 2 and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had come out, 3 Joanna the wife of Herod’s household manager Chuza, Susanna, and many others. These women were ministering to them out of their own means. 4 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, He told them this parable: 5 "A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was sowing, some seeds fell along the path, were trampled on, and birds from the sky ate them up. 6 Other seed fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the seedlings withered because they had no moisture. 7 Other seed fell among the thorns, which grew up with it and choked the seedlings. 8 But others fell on good soil, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold." When he had said this he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" 9 And his disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 He replied, “The knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, ‘Though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.’ 11 "This is the meaning of the parable. The seed is the word of God. 12 The ones along the path are those who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe and be saved. 13 And those upon the rock are those who receive the word with joy when they hear; and these have no root, who believe for a time, and in time of testing fall away. 14 The seeds that fell among the thorns are those who hear, but as they go on their way, they are choked by the worries, riches, and pleasures of this life, and their fruit does not mature. 15 But the seeds on good soil are those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, cling to it, and by persevering produce a crop. 16 "No one lights a lamp and hides it under a bowl or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a lamp stand so that those who come in will see the light. 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing concealed that will not be known and illuminated. 18 Pay attention, therefore, to how you listen. Whoever has will be given more, but whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.” 19 Now his mother and brothers came to him, and they were not able to meet with him because of the crowd. 20 But some one told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, desiring to see you." 21 But He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear the word of God and carry it out.” 22 One day Jesus said to His disciples, “Let us cross to the other side of the lake.” So He got into a boat with them and set out. 23 As they sailed, He fell asleep, and a squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. 24 The disciples went and woke Him saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters, and they subsided, and all was calm. 25 “Where is your faith?” He asked. Frightened and amazed, they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him!” 26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, across the lake from Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, He was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothing or lived in a house, but he stayed in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him, shouting in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You not to torture me!” 29 For Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was bound with chains and shackles, he had broken the chains and been driven by the demon into solitary places. 30 Jesus asked him, What is your name? He said, Legion, because many demons had entered into him. 31 And they begged him repeatedly not to command them to go into the Abyss. 32 Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter them. So he gave them permission. 33 Then the demons came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. 34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside. 35 So the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting at Jesus' feet, dressed and in his right mind, they were frightened. 36 Then those who had seen it told them how the demon-possessed man had been saved. 37 Then all the people from the region surrounding the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were terrified. So he got into a boat and started back. 38 But the man from whom the demons had gone out begged him to be with him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went and proclaimed all over the town how much Jesus had done for him. 40 Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. 41 And a man named Jairus, and he a ruler of the synagogue came: and fell down at Jesus feet, and besought him to come to his house; 42 because his only daughter, who was about twelve, was dying. As Jesus went with him, the crowds pressed around Him, 43 and a woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years which no one could cure, 44 She came up behind Jesus and touched the fringe of His cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. 45 “Who touched Me?” Jesus asked. But they all denied it. “Master,” said Peter, “the people are crowding and pressing against You.” 46 But Jesus said, "Someone touched me; for I know that power has gone out from me." 47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not escape notice, came trembling and fell down before Him. In the presence of all the people she explained why she had touched Him and how she had immediately been healed. 48 And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace." 49 While He was still speaking, someone came from the house of the leader of the synagogue and said, "Your daughter is dead; stop troubling the Teacher anymore." 50 But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.” 51 When he reached the house, he did not allow any one to go in with him, except Peter, John, and James, and the child's father and mother. 52 And all the people were weeping and crying for her; but he said, Do not be sad, for she is not dead, but sleeping. 53 They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But Jesus took her by the hand and called out, “Child, get up!” 55 Her spirit returned and at once she stood up. He told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were astonished, but Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.

Mark 16:17-18

17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; even if they drink any deadly poison it will not hurt them; and they will place their hands on the sick, and they will recover."

1 Thessalonians 1:3-9

3 and continually recalling before our God and Father your work of faith, your labor of love, and your enduring hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we know, brothers so beloved by God, that He has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power, in the Holy Spirit, and with great conviction—just as you know we lived among you for your sake. 6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord. In spite of a great deal of suffering, you welcomed the word with the joy that the Holy Spirit produces. 7 As a result, you became a model for all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 For the Lord’s message sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith toward God [also] spread everywhere [else], so that we do not have to say anything [about you]. 9 For they themselves report what kind of welcome you gave us, and how you turned away from idols to serve the living and true God

Revelation 21:1-22:21

1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.” 5 Then He who was seated on the throne said, "See! I am making everything new." He continued, "Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true." 6 and he said to me, It is done; I am the Alpha and the Omega the beginning and the end; to him who thirsteth I will give without cost from the fountain of the water of life. 7 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8 But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.” 9 Then one of the seven angels with the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. 12 It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south, and three on the west. 14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15 The angel who was talking with me had a measuring rod of gold, to measure the city, its gates and wall. 16 The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the rod, twelve thousand stadia; its length and width and height are equal. 17 And he measured its wall, a hundred and forty-four cubits, according to man's measurement, which the angel was using. 18 The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as clear as glass. 19 The foundations of the city walls were adorned with every kind of precious stone: The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; each gate made of a single pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. 22 But I saw no temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun nor the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God lighted it, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light; the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25 And its gates will not be shut by day; for there will be no night there; 26 and the glory and honor of the nations shall be brought into it. 27 But nothing impure shall enter into it, nor shall any man who commits shameful acts, or who lies: but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Revelation 22:1-21

1 Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be within the city, and His servants will worship Him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 And there will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light; and they will reign for ever and ever. 6 And he said to me, "These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants the things which must soon take place." 7 "And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book." 8 I, John, am he who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had shown them to me. 9 But he said to me, “Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!” 10 Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of prophecy in this book, because the time is near. 11 Let the unrighteous continue to be unrighteous, and the vile continue to be vile; let the righteous continue to practice righteousness, and the holy continue to be holy.” 12 "Behold, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me, to render to every man according to what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. 14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. 16 "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright Morning Star." 17 And the Spirit and the bride say Come. And let him who hears, say Come. And he who is thirsty, let him come. And whosoever will, let him take of the living water freely. 18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19 And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. 20 He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people.

James 1:1-27

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are in the Diaspora: Greetings. 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you encounter trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Allow perseverance to finish its work, so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6 But he must ask in faith, without doubting, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 For that man should not think that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 [he is] a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. 9 The brother in humble circumstances should exult in his high position. 10 But the one who is rich should exult in his low position, because he will pass away like a flower of the field. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its flower falls and its beauty is lost. So too, the rich man will fade away in the midst of his pursuits. 12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. 13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed. 15 Then when passion has conceived it gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death. 16 Do not be deceived, my dear brothers. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we would be a kind of firstfruits of His creation. 19 My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, 20 for man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness that God desires. 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly receive the word planted in you, which can save your souls. 22 Obey the message; do not merely listen to it, and deceive yourselves. 23 For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, 24 and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so—not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer—he will be blessed in what he does. 26 If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart and his religion is worthless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
