³ Lo, an inheritance of Jehovah are sons, A reward is the fruit of the womb. ⁴ As arrows in the hand of a mighty one, So are the sons of the young men. ⁵ O the happiness of the man Who hath filled his quiver with them, They are not ashamed, For they speak with enemies in the gate!

¹ To the Overseer. —A Psalm by David. Jehovah, Thou hast searched me, and knowest. ² Thou—Thou hast known my sitting down, And my rising up, Thou hast attended to my thoughts from afar. ³ My path and my couch Thou hast fanned, And with all my ways hast been acquainted. ⁴ For there is not a word in my tongue, Lo, O Jehovah, Thou hast known it all! ⁵ Behind and before Thou hast besieged me, And Thou dost place on me Thy hand. ⁶ Knowledge too wonderful for me, It hath been set on high, I am not able for it.
⁷ Whither do I go from Thy Spirit? And whither from Thy face do I flee? ⁸ If I ascend the heavens—there Thou art, And spread out a couch in Sheol, lo, Thee! ⁹ I take the wings of morning, I dwell in the uttermost part of the sea, ¹⁰ Also there Thy hand doth lead me, And Thy right hand doth hold me. ¹¹ And I say, `Surely darkness bruiseth me, Then night is light to me. ¹² Also darkness hideth not from Thee, And night as day shineth, as is darkness so is light. ¹³ For Thou—Thou hast possessed my reins, Thou dost cover me in my mother's belly. ¹⁴ I confess Thee, because that with wonders I have been distinguished. Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul is knowing it well. ¹⁵ My substance was not hid from Thee, When I was made in secret, Curiously wrought in the lower part of earth. ¹⁶ Mine unformed substance Thine eyes saw, And on Thy book all of them are written, The days they were formed—And not one among them.
¹⁷ And to me how precious have been Thy thoughts, O God, how great hath been their sum! ¹⁸ I recount them! than the sand they are more, I have waked, and I am still with Thee. ¹⁹ Dost Thou slay, O God, the wicked? Then, men of blood, turn aside from me! ²⁰ Who exchange Thee for wickedness, Lifted up to vanity are Thine enemies. ²¹ Do not I hate, Jehovah, those hating Thee? And with Thy withstanders grieve myself? ²² With perfect hatred I have hated them, Enemies they have become to me. ²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart, Try me, and know my thoughts, ²⁴ And see if a grievous way be in me, And lead me in a way age-during!

⁸ And now, O Jehovah, thou art our Father, We are the clay, and Thou our Framer, And the work of Thy hand—all of us.

¹¹ For I have known the thoughts that I am thinking towards you—an affirmation of Jehovah; thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give to you posterity and hope. ¹² `And ye have called Me, and have gone, and have prayed unto Me, and I have hearkened unto you, ¹³ And ye have sought Me, and have found, for ye seek Me with all your heart;

²⁶ He made also of one blood every nation of men, to dwell upon all the face of the earth—having ordained times before appointed, and the bounds of their dwellings—

⁸ And finally, being all of one mind, having fellow-feeling, loving as brethren, compassionate, courteous,

⁹ and ye are a choice race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people acquired, that the excellences ye may shew forth of Him who out of darkness did call you to His wondrous light;

¹ I call upon you, therefore, brethren, through the compassions of God, to present your bodies a sacrifice—living, sanctified, acceptable to God—your intelligent service; ² and be not conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, for your proving what is the will of God—the good, and acceptable, and perfect. ³ For I say, through the grace that was given to me, to every one who is among you, not to think above what it behoveth to think; but to think so as to think wisely, as to each God did deal a measure of faith, ⁴ for as in one body we have many members, and all the members have not the same office, ⁵ so we, the many, one body are in Christ, and members each one of one another. ⁶ And having gifts, different according to the grace that was given to us; whether prophecy—`According to the proportion of faith!' <sup>7</sup> or ministration—`In the ministration!' or he who is teaching—`In the teaching!' <sup>8</sup> or he who is exhorting—`In the exhortation!' he who is sharing—`In simplicity!' he who is leading—`In diligence?' he who is doing kindness—`In cheerfulness.' <sup>9</sup> The love unfeigned: abhorring the evil; cleaving to the good; <sup>10</sup> in the love of brethren, to one another kindly affectioned: in the honour going before one another; <sup>11</sup> in the diligence not slothful; in the spirit fervent; the Lord serving; <sup>12</sup> in the hope rejoicing; in the tribulation enduring; in the prayer persevering; <sup>13</sup> to the necessities of the saints communicating; the hospitality pursuing. <sup>14</sup> Bless those persecuting you; bless, and curse not; <sup>15</sup> to rejoice with the rejoicing, and to weep with the weeping, <sup>16</sup> of the same mind one toward another, not minding the high things, but with the lowly going along; become not wise in your own conceit; <sup>17</sup> giving back to no one evil for evil; providing right things before all men. <sup>18</sup> If possible—so far as in you—with all men being in peace; <sup>19</sup> not avenging yourselves, beloved, but give place to the wrath, for it hath been written, `Vengeance is Mine, ²⁰ I will recompense again, saith the Lord;' if, then, thine enemy doth hunger, feed him; if he doth thirst, give him drink; for this doing, coals of fire thou shalt heap upon his head; ²¹ Be not overcome by the evil, but overcome, in the good, the evil.

³⁰ and of you—even the hairs of the head are all numbered;

¹⁰ for of Him we are workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God did before prepare, that in them we may walk.

²⁷ And God prepareth the man in His image; in the image of God He prepared him, a male and a female He prepared them.

⁵ `Before I form thee in the belly, I have known thee; and before thou comest forth from the womb I have separated thee, a prophet to nations I have made thee.'

¹⁴ I confess Thee, because that with wonders I have been distinguished. Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul is knowing it well.
