Burnt (offering)

denotes a whole burnt offering" (holos, "whole," kautos, for kaustos, a verbal adjective from kaio, "to burn"), i.e., "a victim," the whole of which is burned, as in Exodus 30:20; Leviticus 5:12; Leviticus 23:8, Leviticus 23:25, Leviticus 23:27. It is used in Mark 12:33, by the scribe who questioned the Lord as to the first commandment in the Law, and in Hebrews 10:6, Hebrews 10:8, RV, "whole burnt offerings." See OFFERING.
