Lantern
[ 1,,G5322, phanos ]denotes either a torch" or "a lantern" (from phaino, "to cause to shine, to give light"), John 18:3, where it is distinguished from lampas (See LAMP, No. 1); it was "a link or torch consisting of strips of resinous wood tied together" (Rutherford). "Torch" would seem to be the meaning.
