has the meaning of being of weight, value, worth;" also "befitting, becoming, right on the ground of fitness," e.g., Matthew 3:8, AV, "meet" (RV, "worthy"); so Acts 26:20; Luke 3:8 ("worthy"); Luke 23:41 ("due reward"). See REWARD, WORTHY.
