primarily, to bring or set together," is used metaphorically of "perceiving, understanding, uniting" (sun), so to speak, the perception with what is perceived, e.g., Matthew 13:13-Matthew 13:15, Matthew 13:19, Matthew 13:23, Matthew 13:51; Matthew 15:10; Matthew 16:12; Matthew 17:13, and similar passages in Mark and Luke; Acts 7:25 (twice); Acts 28:26-Acts 28:27; in Romans 3:11, the present participle, with the article, is used as a noun, lit., "there is not the understanding (one)," in a moral and spiritual sense; Romans 15:21; 2 Corinthians 10:12, RV, "are (without) understanding," AV, "are (not) wise;" Ephesians 5:17, RV, "understand."
