ABU⁽ⁱ⁾ ⁵ I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain vessel descending, as a great sheet, let down out of heaven by four corners; and it came even to me. ⁶ On which fixing my eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and birds of the air. ⁷ And I heard a voice saying to me: Arise, Peter; slay and eat. ⁸ But I said: Not so, Lord; for nothing common or unclean ever entered into my mouth. ⁹ But a voice answered me a second time out of heaven: What God cleansed, regard not thou as common. ¹⁰ And this was done three times; and all were drawn up again into heaven. ¹¹ And, behold, immediately there stood three men at the house where I was, having been sent to me from Caesarea. ¹² And the Spirit bade me go with them, making no scruple. And these six brethren also went with me, and we entered into the man's house. ¹³ And he told us how he saw the angel in his house, standing and saying to him: Send to Joppa, and call for Simon who is surnamed Peter; ¹⁴ who will speak to thee words, whereby thou shalt be saved, and all thy house.
