40 Καὶ (And) ἔρχεται (He comes) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) καὶ (and) εὑρίσκει (finds) αὐτοὺς (them) καθεύδοντας (sleeping). καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) τῷ (-) Πέτρῳ (to Peter), “Οὕτως (Thus) οὐκ (not) ἰσχύσατε (were you able) μίαν (one) ὥραν (hour) γρηγορῆσαι (to watch) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me)?
41 γρηγορεῖτε (Watch) καὶ (and) προσεύχεσθε (pray), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) εἰσέλθητε (you enter) εἰς (into) πειρασμόν (temptation). τὸ (The) μὲν (indeed) πνεῦμα (spirit) πρόθυμον (is willing), ἡ (-) δὲ (but) σὰρξ (the flesh) ἀσθενής (weak).”
42 Πάλιν (Again) ἐκ (for) δευτέρου (a second time) ἀπελθὼν (having gone away), προσηύξατο (He prayed), λέγων (saying), “Πάτερ (Father) μου (of Me), εἰ (if) οὐ (not) δύναται (is possible) τοῦτο (this) παρελθεῖν (to pass) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) αὐτὸ (it) πίω (I drink), γενηθήτω (be done) τὸ (the) θέλημά (will) σου (of You).”
43 καὶ (And) ἐλθὼν (having come) πάλιν (again), εὗρεν (He finds) αὐτοὺς (them) καθεύδοντας (sleeping), ἦσαν (were) γὰρ (for) αὐτῶν (of them) οἱ (the) ὀφθαλμοὶ (eyes) βεβαρημένοι (heavy).
44 Καὶ (And) ἀφεὶς (having left) αὐτοὺς (them) πάλιν (again), ἀπελθὼν (having gone away), προσηύξατο (He prayed) ἐκ (for) τρίτου (the third time), τὸν (the) αὐτὸν (same) λόγον (thing) εἰπὼν (having said) πάλιν (again).
45 τότε (Then) ἔρχεται (He comes) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) καὶ (and) λέγει (says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Καθεύδετε (Sleep) ‹τὸ› (-) λοιπὸν (later on) καὶ (and) ἀναπαύεσθε (take your rest). ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἤγγικεν (has drawn near) ἡ (the) ὥρα (hour), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδίδοται (is betrayed) εἰς (into) χεῖρας (the hands) ἁμαρτωλῶν (of sinners).
46 ἐγείρεσθε (Rise up), ἄγωμεν (let us go)! ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἤγγικεν (has drawn near) ὁ (he who) παραδιδούς (is betraying) με (Me)!”
