4 With respect to this, they think it strange of you not running with them into the same overflow of debauchery, speaking evil of you,
5 who will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6 For to this end the gospel was proclaimed even to the dead, so that they might be judged indeed according to men in the flesh, but they might live in the spirit according to God.
7 Now the end of all has drawn near. Therefore be clear-minded and be sober for the purpose of prayers,
8 above all things, having fervent love among yourselves, because love covers over a multitude of sins,
9 hospitable to one another without complaint,
10 as each has received a gift, to them serving each other as good stewards of the manifold grace of God:
11 if anyone speaks, as oracles of God; if anyone serves, as of strength which God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the power to the ages of the ages. Amen.
12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fire among you taking place for a trial to you, as if a strange thing were happening to you.
13 But as you have shared in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that also in the revelation of His glory you may rejoice, exulting.
14 If you are insulted in the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.
15 For let not any of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or as a troublesome meddler,
16 but if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this name.
17 For it is the time for the judgment to have begun from the house of God; and if from us first, what will be the outcome of those disobeying the gospel of God?
18 And, “If the righteous one is saved with difficulty, where will appear the ungodly and sinner?”
19 Therefore also, those suffering according to the will of God, let them commit their souls to the faithful Creator in well-doing.
5 1 I exhort the elders among you, a fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, who am also a partaker of the glory being about to be revealed:
2 Shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but willingly according to God; and not for base gain but eagerly,
3 not as exercising lordship over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.
4 And the Chief Shepherd having been revealed, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
5 Likewise, younger ones, be subject to your elders. And all, gird on humility one to another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
6 Be humbled therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time,
7 having cast all your anxiety upon Him, because with Him there is care about you.
8 Be sober-minded; watch. Your adversary the devil prowls about as a roaring lion seeking whom to devour,
9 whom you should resist, firm in the faith, knowing the same sufferings to be accomplished in your brotherhood throughout the world.
10 And the God of all grace, the One having called you to His eternal glory in Christ, of you having suffered a little while, He Himself will perfect, will confirm, will strengthen, and will establish you.
11 To Him be the power to the ages of the ages. Amen.
12 Through Silvanus, the faithful brother as I regard him, I have written to you through few words, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God, in which you stand.
13 She in Babylon elected with you greets you, and my son Mark.
14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be to all of you who are in Christ.
