DAVID AT CAVE ADULLAM AND MISPEH
And David goes thence and escapes to the cave Adullam: and his brothers and all the house of his father hear and descend to him there. 2 And every man in distress and every man who has an exactor and every man who is bitter of soul, gather themselves to him; and he becomes governor over them: - about four hundred men with him. 3 And from there, David goes to Mispeh of Moab: and he says to the sovereign of Moab, Allow my father and my mother, I beseech you, to go with you, until I know what Elohim works for me. 4 And he leads them at the face of the sovereign of Moab: and they settle with him all the days David is in the hold. 5 And the prophet Gad says to David, Settle not in the hold; go and get into the land of Yah Hudah. Then David goes and comes to the forest of Hareth. 6
SHAUL DEATHIFIES THE PRIESTS OF NOB
And Shaul hears that David and the men with him have been seen; - and Shaul settles in Gibah under a grove in Ramah with his spear in his hand and all his servants station around him. 7 And Shaul says to his servants stationed around him, Hear now, you Ben Yaminiy; Gives the son of Yishay fields and vineyards to every one of you? Sets he you all governors of thousands and governors of hundreds 8 that you all conspire against me? And no one exposes in my ear that my son cut with the son of Yishay? And none of you is sick for me? And exposing in my ear that my son raises my servant to lurk against me as this day? 9 And Doeg the Edomiy who is stationed over the servants of Shaul answers and says, I saw the son of Yishay coming to Nob - to Achiy Melech the son of Achiy Tub: 10 and he asked of Yah Veh for him; and gave him hunt and gave him the sword of Golyath the Peleshethiy. 11 Then the sovereign sends to call Achiy Melech the priest the son of Achiy Tub and all the house of his father - the priests in Nob: and they all come to the sovereign. 12 And Shaul says, Hear now, you son of Achiy Tub. And he says, Here, I, my adoni. 13 And Shaul says to him, Why conspire you against me - you and the son of Yishay in that you gave him bread and a sword and asked of Elohim for him to rise against me, to lurk, as at this day? 14 And Achiy Melech answers the sovereign, and says, And who is as amenable among all your servants as David the son in law of the sovereign - who turns aside to hear you - who is honorable in your house? 15 Begin I daily to ask of Elohim for him? Far be it from me! O that the sovereign set no word - neither to his servant nor to all the house of my father: for your servant knows no word of all this - less or great. 16 And the sovereign says, In dying, you die, Achiy Melech - you and all the house of your father. 17 And the sovereign says to the runners stationed around him, Turn and deathify the priests of Yah Veh: because their hand is also with David; and because they know when he flees and expose it not in my ear. And the servants of the sovereign will to not send forth their hand to encounter the priests of Yah Veh. 18 And the sovereign says to Doeg, Turn and encounter the priests. And Doeg the Edomiy turns and encounters the priests; and deathifies on that day eighty-five men bearing a linen ephod: 19 and he smites Nob, the city of the priests, with the mouth of the sword - both men and women, infants and sucklings and oxen and he burros and lambs, with the mouth of the sword. 20 And one of the sons of Achiy Melech the son of Achiy Tub, named Abi Athar, escapes and flees after David: 21 and Abi Athar tells David that Shaul slaughtered priests of Yah Veh. 22 And David says to Abi Athar, I knew the day Doeg the Edomiy was there, that in telling, he tells Shaul: I surround all the souls of the house of your father. 23 Settle with me!
