A reed which is shaken by the wind? ²⁵ If not so, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Behold, those who wear fine clothes and live delicately are in kingsÆ houses. ²⁶ And if not so, what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, to prepare the way before you. ²⁸ I say to you that there is no prophet among those who are born of women, who is greater than John the Baptist; and yet even the least person in the kingdom of God is greater than he. ²⁹ And all the people who heard it, even the publicans, justified themselves before God, for they were baptized with the baptism of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and the scribes suppressed the will of God in themselves, because they were not baptized by him.
