Matthew(i)
1 After that Hiram kynge of Tire sent messengers to Dauid and tymbre of Cedar trees with masons and Carpenters, to buylde hym an house.
2 Wherby Dauid perceyued that the Lorde had prepared hym to be kyng vpon Israel, in that his kyngdome was lifte vpon hye, because of hys people Israel.
3 And Dauid toke yet mo wyues at Ierusalem and begat mo sonnes & daughters.
4 And these are the names of his children which he had borne hym at Ierusalem: Samua, Sobab. Nathan, and Salomon:
5 Iebhar, Elisua and Eliphalet:
6 Noga, Nepheg and Iaphiah.
7 Elisama, Baliada and Eliphelet.
8 And when it was knowne among the Philistines that Dauid was anoynted kyng vpon all Israel, all the Philistines went vp to seke Dauid. And Dauid hearde of yt & went oute agaynst them.
9 And the Philistines came and praunsed in the valeye of Raphaim.
10 And Dauid asked God saying: shall I go agaynst the Philistines & wylt thou delyuer them into myne handes? And the Lorde sayde to hym: go, for I wyll delyuer them into thyne hande.
11 And when they were come as ferre as Baal Pharazim, Dauid bett them there. And Dauid sayde: God hathe deuyded myne enemyes with myne hande as a man wol deuyde water. And therfore they called the name of the sayde place Baal Pharazim.
12 And they lefte theyr Gods there, which Dauid badde to be burnt wyth fyre.
13 And the Philistines came agayne & ranne abroade in the valeye.
14 Then Dauid asked God: And God sayde to hym: go not after them, but turne awaye from them, & come vpon them strayght from the peere trees.
15 And when thou hearest a sounde go in the toppes of the peeretres, then go out to battell: for God will go out before the to smyte the hoste of the Philistines.
16 And Dauid dyd as God commaunded hym. And they smote the hoste of the Philistines all the waye from Gabaon to Gazer.
17 And the fame of Dauid went out into all landes, and the Lorde made all nacyons feare hym.
