Matthew(i)
3 Iacob sent messengers before him to Esau hys brother, vnto the land of Seir, and the fyeld of Edom
4 And he commaunded theym sayinge: see that ye speake after thys maner to my Lord Esau: thy seruaunte Iacob sayeth thus. I haue soiourned and bene a straunger wyth Laban vnto thys time,
5 and haue gotten oxen, asses, and shepe, menseruauntes & womenseruauntes, & haue sent to shew it my Lord, that I may finde grace in thy sight.
6 And the messengers came againe to Iacob sayinge: we came vnto thi brother Esau, & he commeth agaynst the & .iiij. hundred men wyth him.
7 Then was Iacob greatly afrayed, & wyste not whych way to turne him selfe, and deuided the people that was wyth hym, and the shepe, oxen, & camels, into .ij. companyes,
8 & sayd: If Esau come to the one part & smite it the other maye saue it selfe.
