Joel 2

Matthew(i) 1 Blowe oute the trompet in Sion, & crye vpon my holy hyl, that al suche as dwell in the land, may tremble at it, for the daye of the Lorde commeth, and is harde at hande: 2 a darcke daye, a gloomynge daye, a cloudye daye, yea & a stormy daye, lyke as the mornynge spredeth oute vpon the hylles: Namely, a great and myghtye people; suche as haue not bene sence the begynnynge, neither shal be after them for euer more. 3 Before hym shall be a consumynge fyre, and behynde him a burnyng flamme. The land shal be as a garden of pleasure before him, but behynde hym shall it be a very waste wyldernes, and there is no man, that shall escape hym. 4 They are to loke vpon lyke barded horses, and runne lyke horse men. 5 They skyppe vp vpon the hylles, as it were the sounde of charettes, as the flamme of fyre that consumeth the strawe, and as a myghtye people ready to the battell. 6 The folcke shalbe afrayed of hym, all faces shalbe as blacke as a pot. 7 These shal runne lyke gyauntes, and leape ouer the walles lyke men of warre. Euerye man in hys goynge shall kepe hys araye, and not go oute of hys Path. 8 There shall not one dryue another, but eche shall kepe hys owne waye. They shall breake in at the wyndowes, and not be hurte. 9 They shall come into the cytye, and runne vpon the walles: They shal clymme vp vpon the houses, & slyppe in at the wyndowes lyke a thefe. 10 The earth shall quake before him, yea, the heauens shalbe moued: The sunne & moue shall be darckened, and the starres shal wythdraw theyr shyne, 11 The Lorde shall shewe his voyce before hys hoste, for hys hoste is greate, strong and myghtye to fulfyll hys commaundement. This is that greate and merueylous fearefull daye of the Lorde: And who is able to abyde it. 12 Now therfore sayeth the Lorde: Turne you vnto me wyth all youre hertes, wyth fastynge, wepynge and mournynge, 13 rente your hertes & not youre clothes. Turne you vnto the Lorde youre God, for he is gracyons and mercyfull, longe sufferyng and of great compassyon, & ready to pardone wickednes. 14 Then (no doute) he also shall turne, & forgeue: and after hys chasteninge, he shall let youre increase remayne, for meat & drynckeofferinges vnto the Lorde youre God? 15 Blowe oute with the trompet in Syon, proclame a fastynge, cal the congregacyon, 16 and gather the people together: warne the congregacyon, gather the elders, brynge the chyldren & suckelynges together. Let the brydgrome go forth of his chambre, & the bryde oute of her closet. 17 Let the prestes serue the Lorde betwixte the porche & the aulter, weping and saying: be fauourable (O Lorde) be fauourable vnto thy people: let not thyne herytage be broughte to suche confusyon, leste the Heathen be Lordes therof. Wherfore shulde they saye amonge the Heathen: where is nowe theyr God? 18 Then shall the Lorde be gelous ouer hys lande, & spare his people: 19 yea, the Lorde shall aunswere, and say vnto his people: Behold, I will sende you corne, wyne & oyle, so that ye shall haue plentye of them: & I wyll no more geue you ouer to be a reprofe amonge the heathen. 20 Agayne, as for hym of the Norh, I shal dryue hym farre from you: & shute him out into a drye and waste lande, hys face towarde the east sea, and hys hynder partes towarde the vtmost sea. The styncke of hym shall go vp, and his fylthy corrupcyon shall fal vpon himselfe, because he hath dealte so proudelye. 21 Feare not (O lande) but be glad, and reioyse, for the Lorde wyll do greate thynges. 22 Be not ye afrayed nether (O ye beastes of the felde) for the pastures shalbe greue, and the trees shall beare theyr frute: the fyggetrees & vyneyardes shall geue theyr encrease. 23 Be glad then (O ye chyldren of Syon) & reioyse in the Lorde youre God, for he hathe geuen you a teacher of ryghtuousnes: and he it is that shall sende you doune shuwers of rayne, early and late in the fyrste moueth, 24 so that the garners shalbe full of corne, and the presses plenteous in wyne and oyle. 25 And as for the yeares that the greshopper, locuste, blastynge, & caterpyller (my greate hoste, whiche I sente amonge you) haue eaten vp, I shal restore them to you agayne, 26 so that ye shall haue ynoughe to eate, and be satisfyed, and prayse the name of the Lorde youre God, that so meruelouslye hath dealte wyth you. And my people shal neuer be confounded anye more. 27 Ye shall well knowe, that I am in the myddeste of Israel, and that I am youre God: yea, & that there is none other, & my people shal no more be broughte to confusyon. 28 After this, wil I poure out my sprete vpon all fleshe: and your sonnes & your doughters shall prophecye: youre olde men shall dreame dreames, & youre yong men shal se visyons 29 yea in those dayes I wyll poure out my sprite vpon seruauntes and maydens. 30 I wyll shewe wonders in heauen aboue, and tokens in the earth beneth: bloude and fyre, and the vapour of smoke. 31 The sunne shalbe turned into darcknes, & the mone into bloude: before the greate & notable daye of the Lorde come. 32 And the time shal come, that whosoeuer calleth on the name of the Lorde, shalbe saued. For vpon the mount Syon & at Ierusalem, there shalbe a saluacion, lyke as the Lorde hath promysed, yea & among the other remnaunte, whome the Lorde shall call.
