You are unclean (dishonored) because of the disgusting idols you have made. You have brought an end to your days, and you have come to the end of your years. That is why I will make you a disgrace to the nations and a joke in every land. ⁵ »‘»Those near and those far away will mock you. Your name will be dishonored, and you will be filled with confusion. ⁶ »‘»See how all the princes of Israel who live in you have used their power to shed blood (murder people). ⁷ »‘»People in you hate their fathers and mothers. They oppress foreigners in you. Some charge interest on the loans they make to other Israelites and get rich by taking advantage of them. They have forgotten me. The Lord Jehovah has spoken. ¹³ ‘»I strike my fist at your dishonest gain and your acts of bloodshed. ¹⁴ ‘»Can your heart endure? Will your hands be strong in the days that I will deal with you? I, Jehovah, have spoken and will act. ¹⁵ ‘»I will scatter you among the nations and I will disperse you through the lands, and I will consume your uncleanness from you. ¹⁶ ‘»You will profane yourself in the sight of the nations, and you will know that I am Jehovah.«’
