RKJNT(i)
For John had said to Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife.
Therefore Herodias had a grudge against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:
For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and kept him safe; and when he heard him, he was perplexed, but he enjoyed listening to him.
But an opportunity came on Herod's birthday, when he had a banquet for his lords, high captains, and chief men of Galilee;
When the daughter of Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, Ask of me whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.
And he swore to her, Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give it to you, up to half of my kingdom.
And she went out, and said to her mother, For what shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
