1 Kings 12:26-33

Thomson(i) 26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, Behold now the kingdom will revert to the house of David, 27 if the people go up to Jerusalem to offer sacrifice in the house of the Lord; for the heart of the people will turn to the Lord and to their lord Roboam king of Juda and they will kill me. 28 Therefore the king took counsel and went and made two calves of gold, and said to the people, Rest satisfied in respect to your going up to Jerusalem. Behold these are thy gods, Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 29 And he placed one of them in Baithel and the other he sent to Dan. 30 And this became an occasion of sinning. For the people went before the one even to Dan, and they forsook the house of the Lord, 31 and he built houses on high places, and made priests of any part of the people who were not of the children of Levi. 32 And Jeroboam instituted a festival in the eighth month, on the fifteenth clay of the month, answering to the festival in the land of Juda, and he went up to the altar which he made at Baithel to burn incense to the calves which he had made, and presented at Baithel the priests of the high places whom he had made. 33 But when he ascended the altar, which he had made, on the fifteenth day of the eight month, at the festival which he had devised out of his own heart and made a festival for the children of Israel; when he ascended the altar to offer incense,
