6 And the king laid the matter before the elders who stood before Solomon his father while he was alive, and said, How do you advise me to answer this people?
7 And they spoke to him saying, If thou wilt this day be a servant to the people and serve them and speak good words to them, they will then be thy servants, all thy days.
8 But he slighted the counsel of the old men, which they gave him, and consulted with the young men who had been brought up with him, and who waited on him,
9 and said to them, What do you advise? And what answer should I make to them who speak to me saying, Lighten the yoke which thy father laid on us?
10 And the young men who had been brought up with him, and waited on him spoke to him and said, Thus shalt thou say to this people, who have spoken to thee saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, now therefore, lighten it for us, thus thou shalt say to them, My little finger shall be heavier than my father's loins. My father indeed loaded you with a heavy yoke; but I will add to your yoke.
11 My father chastised you with whips; but I will chastise you with scorpions.
12 So when all the people came to the king on the third day as he had appointed, saying, Come to me again on the third day,
13 the king answered the people roughly. He slighted the counsel of the old men, which they had given him,
14 and spoke to them, in the manner the young men advised, saying, My father made your yoke heavy but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
15 So the king hearkened not to the people. Because the revolution was from the Lord, that he might perform the word which he spoke, by the ministry of Achia the Selonite, concerning Jeroboam, son of Nabat,
