Composed, O Theophilus, the former treatise concerning all that Jesus took occasion both to do and teach
till the day when he was taken up, after giving a charge by the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen,
and to whom he had, after his suffering, shewn himself to be alive, by many proofs, during forty days appearing to them, and speaking of what concerned the kingdom of God.
Then assembling them together, he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which you have heard from me.
For John indeed baptized in water, but you shall be baptized in a Holy Spirit not many days hence.
When they therefore were come together they asked him, saying, Lord, art thou at this time about to restore the kingdom to Israel?
Whereupon he said to them, It is not for you to know times and seasons which the Father hath reserved in his own disposal.
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit is come upon you; and you shall be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the remotest part of the earth.
And having said this, while they were beholding [him] he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight.
