But we know whence this man is; but as for the Christ, when he cometh, no one knoweth whence he is.
Hereupon, Jesus, as he was teaching in the temple, cried and said, Do you indeed both know me, and know whence I am? I have not come of myself. But he who hath sent me is true, Him you do not know;
but I know him, because I am immediately from him, and he sent me.
Upon this they sought to seize him, but no one laid his hand on him, because his hour was not yet come.
Many of the people, however, believed in him and said, Will the Christ, when he cometh, do greater miracles than those which this man hath done?
The Pharisees heard of the people's whispering such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to apprehend him.
Jesus therefore said to them, Yet a little while I am with you. When I go away to him who sent me,
you will seek me but will not find me; and where I am you cannot come.
Upon this the Jews said among themselves, Whither is he going, that we shall not find him? Is he going to the dispersed among the Greeks, to teach the Greeks?
What is the meaning of this saying of his, "You will seek me and will not find me, and where I am going you cannot come?"
It being now the last the great day of the festival, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink.
He who believeth in me; as the scripture hath said, Out of his belly will flow streams of living water.
Now this he said in reference to the spirit which they who believed in him were to receive; for a holy spirit was not yet received, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
