For as surely as the LORD God of Israel lives, the one who restrained me from harming you indeed, had you not quickly come to meet me, by dawn there wouldn't be a single male left to Nabal."
Then David accepted what she brought him. He said: "Go home in peace. I have listened to what you said and I grant your request."
When Abigail came to Nabal, he was holding a banquet in his home. It was like a king's banquet. He was in a good mood and very drunk, so she did not tell him anything until dawn.
In the morning, when Nabal was sober, his wife told him what had happened; and his heart failed and he became like a stone.
About ten days later the LORD struck Nabal, and he died.
When David heard that Nabal was dead he said, Blessed is the LORD, who has upheld my cause against Nabal, and has kept back His servant from doing wrong. the LORD has returned the wrongdoing of Nabal on his own head. David sent and asked Abigail to become his wife.
David's servants went to Abigail at Carmel and said to her, "David sent us to you to take you to him as his wife."
She got up and bowed down with her face to the ground and said, "Here is your female servant, as a slave to wash the feet of my lord's servants."
Abigail quickly got up and rode on a donkey with five of her female servants following her. So she went with David's messengers and became his wife.
