And seeing him, straightway the spirit rent him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. ²¹ And he asked his father: How long is it, since this came upon him? And he said: From a child. ²² And ofttimes it cast him both into the fire, and into the water, to destroy him. But if thou art able to do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.

²⁹ For he commanded the unclean spirit to come out from the man. For of a long time it had seized him, and he was bound, being secured with chains and fetters; and bursting the bands, he was driven by the demon into the deserts.
