¹⁶ The fathers shall not be put to death for the sons, neither shall the sons be put to death for the fathers. Every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

⁵ And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he killed his servants who had slain the king his father, ⁶ but he did not put to death the sons of the murderers, according to that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, as LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the sons, nor the sons be put to death for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.

⁴ But he did not put their sons to death, but did according to that which is written in the law in the book of Moses, as LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the sons, neither shall the sons die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.

²⁹ In those days they shall no more say, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the son's teeth are set on edge. ³⁰ But everyone shall die for his own iniquity. Every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.

²⁰ The soul that sins, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, nor shall the father bear the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of a righteous man shall be upon him, and the wickedness of a wicked man shall be upon him.
