¹ And Job answered and said, ² No doubt but you are the people, and wisdom shall die with you. ³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yes, who knows not such things as these? ⁴ I am as one mocked of his neighbor, who calls on God, and he answers him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn. ⁵ He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease. ⁶ The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God brings abundantly. ⁷ But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach you; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell you: ⁸ Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you: and the fishes of the sea shall declare to you. ⁹ Who knows not in all these that the hand of the LORD has worked this? ¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. ¹¹ Does not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat? ¹² With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding. ¹³ With him is wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again: he shuts up a man, and there can be no opening. ¹⁵ Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up: also he sends them out, and they overturn the earth. ¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his. ¹⁷ He leads counsellors away spoiled, and makes the judges fools. ¹⁸ He looses the bond of kings, and girds their loins with a girdle. ¹⁹ He leads princes away spoiled, and overthrows the mighty. ²⁰ He removes away the speech of the trusty, and takes away the understanding of the aged. ²¹ He pours contempt on princes, and weakens the strength of the mighty. ²² He discovers deep things out of darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death. ²³ He increases the nations, and destroys them: he enlarges the nations, and straitens them again. ²⁴ He takes away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. ²⁵ They grope in the dark without light, and he makes them to stagger like a drunken man.

²⁴ Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred. ²⁵ How forcible are right words! but what does your arguing reprove?

⁸ For inquire, I pray you, of the former age, and prepare yourself to the search of their fathers: ⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow:) ¹⁰ Shall not they teach you, and tell you, and utter words out of their heart?

² Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?

⁶ And that he would show you the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.

¹² For vain men would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.

² Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?

⁴ For you have hid their heart from understanding: therefore shall you not exalt them.

¹⁰ But as for you all, do you return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.

³ I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer.

⁷ I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom. ⁸ But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding. ⁹ Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment. ¹⁰ Therefore I said, Listen to me; I also will show my opinion. ¹¹ Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst you searched out what to say. ¹² Yes, I attended to you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words: ¹³ Lest you should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusts him down, not man.

¹¹ The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that has understanding searches him out.

²¹ Woe to them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable, but we are despised.

⁵ I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brothers? ⁶ Can that which is unsavory be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg? ⁷ The things that my soul refused to touch are as my sorrowful meat.

² What you know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior to you. ³ Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God. ⁴ But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value. ⁵ O that you would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.

² How have you helped him that is without power? how save you the arm that has no strength? ³ How have you counceled him that has no wisdom? and how have you plentifully declared the thing as it is? ⁴ Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like to him.

⁵ For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very most chief apostles.

²¹ I speak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak. However, when ever any is bold, (I speak foolishly,) I am bold also. ²² Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I. ²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.

²⁹ Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; yes, return again, my righteousness is in it.

³ Should your lies make men hold their peace? and when you mock, shall no man make you ashamed?

¹⁰ They have gaped on me with their mouth; they have smitten me on the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

²⁰ My friends scorn me: but my eye pours out tears to God.

² Are there not mockers with me? and does not my eye continue in their provocation?

⁶ He has made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret.

³ Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.

¹ But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.

⁷ All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, ⁸ He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

¹⁶ With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed on me with their teeth.

¹⁵ He shall call on me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.

² He that walks in his uprightness fears the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despises him.

³ Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you know not.

⁷ Therefore I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

²⁹ And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

⁴⁰ And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he takes the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and enters in where the damsel was lying.

¹⁴ And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

³² And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear you again of this matter.

³⁶ And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yes, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

³⁵ To me belongs vengeance and recompense; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come on them make haste.

⁵ Does the wild ass bray when he has grass? or lows the ox over his fodder?

⁴ I also could speak as you do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you.

⁵ Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

⁵ Hold up my goings in your paths, that my footsteps slip not.

¹⁸ When I said, My foot slips; your mercy, O LORD, held me up.

³ Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoices: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

²⁰ Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

¹ Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came! ² Pass you to Calneh, and see; and from there go you to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border? ³ You that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; ⁴ That lie on beds of ivory, and stretch themselves on their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the middle of the stall; ⁵ That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of music, like David; ⁶ That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

⁸ And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have much goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

²⁴ The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covers the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

⁷ Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, are mighty in power? ⁸ Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God on them. ¹⁰ Their bull engenders, and fails not; their cow calves, and casts not her calf. ¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. ¹² They take the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. ¹³ They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. ¹⁴ Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray to him?

¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

¹⁴ From men which are your hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly you fill with your hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

¹ Fret not yourself because of evildoers, neither be you envious against the workers of iniquity.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

¹¹ And they say, How does God know? and is there knowledge in the most High? ¹² Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.

²⁹ Have you not asked them that go by the way? and do you not know their tokens, ³⁰ That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

³ The ox knows his owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel does not know, my people does not consider.

⁷ Yes, the stork in the heaven knows her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD.

¹⁷ And you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth. ¹⁸ But you shall remember the LORD your God: for it is he that gives you power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich: he brings low, and lifts up.

³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yes, who knows not such things as these?

²⁰ That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it.

⁵ I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are on the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it to whom it seemed meet to me. ⁶ And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him.

¹⁸ O you king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honor:

¹⁷ Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of your servant, and his supplications, and cause your face to shine on your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.

³⁵ And when the town cleark had appeased the people, he said, You men of Ephesus, what man is there that knows not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

³⁶ For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him? ⁶ But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? ⁷ Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which you are called?

⁷ And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

¹⁷ And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

²² And they fell on their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be wroth with all the congregation?

³ All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;

⁴ The spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty has given me life.

¹⁴ If he set his heart on man, if he gather to himself his spirit and his breath; ¹⁵ All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again to dust.

²⁹ You hide your face, they are troubled: you take away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

³ Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. ⁴ His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

²³ But have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine in them; and you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, have you not glorified:

⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

²⁵ Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he gives to all life, and breath, and all things;

²⁸ For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

³⁰ Is there iniquity in my tongue? cannot my taste discern perverse things?

³ For the ear tries words, as the mouth tastes meat.

¹⁵ I speak as to wise men; judge you what I say.

¹⁰ That you may approve things that are excellent; that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ.

¹⁴ But strong meat belongs to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

³ If so be you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

⁸ For inquire, I pray you, of the former age, and prepare yourself to the search of their fathers:

¹⁰ With us are both the gray headed and very aged men, much elder than your father.

⁷ I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

⁴ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and has prospered?

¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.

²⁰ From where then comes wisdom? and where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air. ²² Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears. ²³ God understands the way thereof, and he knows the place thereof. ²⁴ For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole heaven; ²⁵ To make the weight for the winds; and he weighs the waters by measure. ²⁶ When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder: ²⁷ Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yes, and searched it out. ²⁸ And to man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

⁶ And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and you are very old; why I was afraid, and dared not show you my opinion. ⁷ I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom. ⁸ But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding. ⁹ Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

⁵ Behold, God is mighty, and despises not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.

³⁶ Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? or who has given understanding to the heart?

⁵ Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

¹⁴ Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

¹³ Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counselor has taught him? ¹⁴ With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?

¹⁰ Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

¹² He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens by his discretion.

²⁰ Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:

¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

³⁴ For who has known the mind of the Lord? or who has been his counselor?

²⁴ But to them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

⁸ Wherein he has abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;

¹¹ In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his own will:

³ In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

⁵ If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and upbraides not; and it shall be given him.

⁴⁶ This day will the LORD deliver you into my hand; and I will smite you, and take your head from you; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day to the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

¹⁸ And you have showed this day how that you have dealt well with me: for as much as when the LORD had delivered me into your hand, you killed me not.

⁸ Then said Abishai to David, God has delivered your enemy into your hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray you, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.

¹² Behold, he takes away, who can hinder him? who will say to him, What do you? ¹³ If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

¹⁰ If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?

¹¹ God has delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.

¹⁰ He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and my hope has he removed like a tree.

⁷ He seals up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.

²³ I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, said the LORD of hosts.

²² And the key of the house of David will I lay on his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.

² For you have made of a city an heap; of a defended city a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built.

⁵⁸ Thus said the LORD of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labor in vain, and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary.

⁶⁴ And you shall say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring on her: and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

⁴ Whereas Edom said, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus said the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD has indignation for ever.

³² For God has concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy on all.

⁷ And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things said he that is holy, he that is true, he that has the key of David, he that opens, and no man shuts; and shuts, and no man opens;

¹³ And God said to Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

¹⁷ And then the LORD's wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest you perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD gives you.

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

⁷ At your rebuke they fled; at the voice of your thunder they hurried away. ⁸ They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys to the place which you have founded for them. ⁹ You have set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.

²² Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? are not you he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait on you: for you have made all these things.

⁸ Seek him that makes the seven stars and Orion, and turns the shadow of death into the morning, and makes the day dark with night: that calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:

⁴ He rebukes the sea, and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers: Bashan languishes, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languishes.

²⁵ But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;

¹⁷ Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. ¹⁸ And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

⁶ These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

²² And the LORD said to him, With which? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You shall persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.

¹³ With him is wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding.

⁷ Will you speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?

⁹ Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocks another, do you so mock him?

⁹ And if the prophet be deceived when he has spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand on him, and will destroy him from the middle of my people Israel.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For your is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

³¹ And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray you, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

¹⁴ And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil on Absalom.

²³ And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and got him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulcher of his father.

¹⁴ With kings and counsellors of the earth, which build desolate places for themselves;

¹² Where are they? where are your wise men? and let them tell you now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts has purposed on Egypt. ¹³ The princes of Zoan are become fools, the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the stay of the tribes thereof. ¹⁴ The LORD has mingled a perverse spirit in the middle thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

¹⁴ Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

¹⁹ For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. ²⁰ Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

¹¹ Why the LORD brought on them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. ¹² And when he was in affliction, he sought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, ¹³ And prayed to him: and he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God. ¹⁴ Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fenced cities of Judah.

¹⁶ O LORD, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, and the son of your handmaid: you have loosed my bonds.

³¹ And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the five and twentieth day of the month, that Evilmerodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth out of prison. ³² And spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon, ³³ And changed his prison garments: and he did continually eat bread before him all the days of his life. ³⁴ And for his diet, there was a continual diet given him of the king of Babylon, every day a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

²¹ And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings, and sets up kings: he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

¹⁶ And he has on his clothing and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

²⁴ And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet on the necks of them.

⁴² And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

⁴⁵ Then said David to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. ⁴⁶ This day will the LORD deliver you into my hand; and I will smite you, and take your head from you; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day to the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

²² He draws also the mighty with his power: he rises up, and no man is sure of life.

²⁸ So that they cause the cry of the poor to come to him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted.

⁹ By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

³⁶ Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. ³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelled at Nineveh. ³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

¹ Thus said the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

¹⁴ These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

¹⁹ And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. ²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. ²¹ And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat on the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

²⁴ He takes away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.

⁹ Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

¹⁷ Because God has deprived her of wisdom, neither has he imparted to her understanding.

²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

¹⁹ The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

²² Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

¹ For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, does take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water. ² The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient, ³ The captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the counselor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.

² And if you refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all your borders with frogs:

²⁴ And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.

²³ And of Jezebel also spoke the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel. ²⁴ Him that dies of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dies in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.

²⁶ Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, said the LORD; and I will requite you in this plat, said the LORD. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground, according to the word of the LORD.

³⁴ And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king's daughter. ³⁵ And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands. ³⁶ Why they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel: ³⁷ And the carcass of Jezebel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.

⁴⁰ He pours contempt on princes, and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.

²⁷ None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the lace of their shoes be broken:

⁵ And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

²¹ And I will clothe him with your robe, and strengthen him with your girdle, and I will commit your government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.

⁹ The LORD of hosts has purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth.

²¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth on the earth. ²² And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.

²¹ And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings, and sets up kings: he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: ²² He reveals the deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.

³² And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever he will. ³³ The same hour was the thing fulfilled on Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

¹² And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. ¹³ And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appears to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be you there until I bring you word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

¹⁰ Finally, my brothers, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

¹⁴ Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

¹² And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedchamber.

⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell on it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

¹⁷ For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.

²⁰ From where then comes wisdom? and where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air. ²² Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears. ²³ God understands the way thereof, and he knows the place thereof.

²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

²¹ Shall not God search this out? for he knows the secrets of the heart.

¹² Yes, the darkness hides not from you; but the night shines as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to you.

²² He reveals the deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.

²⁶ Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

⁷⁹ To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

¹⁰ But God has revealed them to us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

⁷ And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

²⁰ Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

³⁸ He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffers not their cattle to decrease.

³ You have multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before you according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

¹⁵ You have increased the nation, O LORD, you have increased the nation: you are glorified: you had removed it far to all the ends of the earth.

⁶ He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.

² Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah that bore you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.

²² A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in his time.

¹⁹ And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

²² As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister to me.

⁸ I will hiss for them, and gather them; for I have redeemed them: and they shall increase as they have increased.

²⁰ He removes away the speech of the trusty, and takes away the understanding of the aged.

⁴ They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.

⁹ And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear you indeed, but understand not; and see you indeed, but perceive not. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

¹ The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rides on a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the middle of it.

¹⁶ Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given to him; and let seven times pass over him.

¹¹ Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.

¹¹ And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

²⁹ And you shall grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways: and you shall be only oppressed and spoiled ever more, and no man shall save you.

¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

²⁷ They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end.

¹⁴ The LORD has mingled a perverse spirit in the middle thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

²⁰ The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy on it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

¹⁰ We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noon day as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men.

¹¹ And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

¹¹ But he that hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and knows not where he goes, because that darkness has blinded his eyes.
