¹ Then Job answered and said, ² How long will you vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words? ³ These ten times have you reproached me: you are not ashamed that you make yourselves strange to me. ⁴ And be it indeed that I have erred, my error remains with myself. ⁵ If indeed you will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach: ⁶ Know now that God has overthrown me, and has compassed me with his net. ⁷ Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment. ⁸ He has fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness in my paths. ⁹ He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head. ¹⁰ He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and my hope has he removed like a tree. ¹¹ He has also kindled his wrath against me, and he counts me to him as one of his enemies. ¹² His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle. ¹³ He has put my brothers far from me, and my acquaintance are truly estranged from me. ¹⁴ My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me. ¹⁵ They that dwell in my house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight. ¹⁶ I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I entreated him with my mouth. ¹⁷ My breath is strange to my wife, though I entreated for the children's sake of my own body. ¹⁸ Yes, young children despised me; I arose, and they spoke against me. ¹⁹ All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me. ²⁰ My bone sticks to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth. ²¹ Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you my friends; for the hand of God has touched me. ²² Why do you persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh? ²³ Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book! ²⁴ That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever! ²⁵ For I know that my redeemer lives, and that he shall stand at the latter day on the earth: ²⁶ And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: ²⁷ Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me. ²⁸ But you should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me? ²⁹ Be you afraid of the sword: for wrath brings the punishments of the sword, that you may know there is a judgment.

¹⁶ And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed to death;

² How long will you speak these things? and how long shall the words of your mouth be like a strong wind?

² How long will it be ere you make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.

² As God lives, who has taken away my judgment; and the Almighty, who has vexed my soul;

² Have mercy on me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed. ³ My soul is also sore vexed: but you, O LORD, how long?

¹ How long will you forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long will you hide your face from me?

¹⁰ As with a sword in my bones, my enemies reproach me; while they say daily to me, Where is your God?

²¹ The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.

⁷ Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say they, does hear?

³ Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:

¹⁸ There is that speaks like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. ⁷ For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed of mankind: ⁸ But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

⁷ And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: ⁸ (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, do you not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

⁷ And your father has deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.

⁷ And Joseph saw his brothers, and he knew them, but made himself strange to them, and spoke roughly to them; and he said to them, From where come you? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food.

²⁶ And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and you shall eat, and not be satisfied.

²² Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;

¹² And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelled by them came, they said to us ten times, From all places from where you shall return to us they will be on you.

⁶ Is not this your fear, your confidence, your hope, and the uprightness of your ways? ⁷ Remember, I pray you, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off? ⁸ Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. ⁹ By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed. ¹⁰ The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. ¹¹ The old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.

³ I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation. ⁴ His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

⁴ If your children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression; ⁵ If you would seek to God betimes, and make your supplication to the Almighty; ⁶ If you were pure and upright; surely now he would awake for you, and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous.

³ Should your lies make men hold their peace? and when you mock, shall no man make you ashamed?

¹⁴ If iniquity be in your hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in your tabernacles.

⁴ Yes, you cast off fear, and restrain prayer before God. ⁵ For your mouth utters your iniquity, and you choose the tongue of the crafty. ⁶ Your own mouth comdemns you, and not I: yes, your own lips testify against you.

¹¹ Are the consolations of God small with you? is there any secret thing with you? ¹² Why does your heart carry you away? and what do your eyes wink at,

⁴ He tears himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for you? and shall the rock be removed out of his place? ⁵ Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him. ⁷ The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down. ⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks on a snare. ⁹ The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him. ¹⁰ The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way. ¹¹ Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet. ¹² His strength shall be extremely hungry, and destruction shall be ready at his side. ¹³ It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength. ¹⁴ His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors. ¹⁵ It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered on his habitation. ¹⁶ His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off. ¹⁷ His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street. ¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings. ²⁰ They that come after him shall be astonished at his day, as they that went before were affrighted. ²¹ Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knows not God.

¹⁷ My breath is strange to my wife, though I entreated for the children's sake of my own body.

⁸ I am become a stranger to my brothers, and an alien to my mother's children.

²⁰ And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

¹⁷ And David spoke to the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, See, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let your hand, I pray you, be against me, and against my father's house.

³ Should your lies make men hold their peace? and when you mock, shall no man make you ashamed? ⁴ For you have said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in your eyes. ⁵ But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you; ⁶ And that he would show you the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.

¹² If you be wise, you shall be wise for yourself: but if you scorn, you alone shall bear it.

⁴ Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sins, it shall die.

¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he has done, whether it be good or bad.

⁵ For every man shall bear his own burden.

⁶ And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

³ And they said to me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

²⁶ Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at my hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.

¹⁶ For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slips, they magnify themselves against me.

¹¹ By this I know that you favor me, because my enemy does not triumph over me.

¹² For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:

¹ And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by your name, to take away our reproach.

⁸ Rejoice not against me, O my enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light to me.

¹⁰ This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts.

⁷ The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah.

²⁵ Thus has the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.

² And Jesus answering said to them, Suppose you that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? ³ I tell you, No: but, except you repent, you shall all likewise perish. ⁴ Or those eighteen, on whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think you that they were sinners above all men that dwelled in Jerusalem?

² And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

³⁴ They answered and said to him, You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us? And they cast him out.

²⁰ I have sinned; what shall I do to you, O you preserver of men? why have you set me as a mark against you, so that I am a burden to myself?

¹¹ God has delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked. ¹² I was at ease, but he has broken me asunder: he has also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark. ¹³ His archers compass me round about, he splits my reins asunder, and does not spare; he pours out my gall on the ground. ¹⁴ He breaks me with breach on breach, he runs on me like a giant.

⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks on a snare. ⁹ The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him. ¹⁰ The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.

⁹ But you have cast off, and put us to shame; and go not forth with our armies. ¹⁰ You make us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves. ¹¹ You have given us like sheep appointed for meat; and have scattered us among the heathen. ¹² You sell your people for nothing, and do not increase your wealth by their price. ¹³ You make us a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us. ¹⁴ You make us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.

¹⁰ For you, O God, have proved us: you have tried us, as silver is tried. ¹¹ You brought us into the net; you laid affliction on our loins. ¹² You have caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but you brought us out into a wealthy place.

¹² Is it nothing to you, all you that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like to my sorrow, which is done to me, with which the LORD has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger. ¹³ From above has he sent fire into my bones, and it prevails against them: he has spread a net for my feet, he has turned me back: he has made me desolate and faint all the day.

¹³ My net also will I spread on him, and he shall be taken in my snare: and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there.

³ Thus said the Lord GOD; I will therefore spread out my net over you with a company of many people; and they shall bring you up in my net.

¹² When they shall go, I will spread my net on them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation has heard.

²⁴ The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covers the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

³ Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and shine on the counsel of the wicked?

¹⁵ If I be wicked, woe to me; and if I be righteous, yet will I not lift up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore see you my affliction; ¹⁶ For it increases. You hunt me as a fierce lion: and again you show yourself marvelous on me. ¹⁷ You renew your witnesses against me, and increase your indignation on me; changes and war are against me.

¹⁵ Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain my own ways before him. ¹⁶ He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him. ¹⁷ Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears. ¹⁸ Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified. ¹⁹ Who is he that will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost. ²⁰ Only do not two things to me: then will I not hide myself from you. ²¹ Withdraw your hand far from me: and let not your dread make me afraid. ²² Then call you, and I will answer: or let me speak, and answer you me. ²³ How many are my iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.

¹⁷ Not for any injustice in my hands: also my prayer is pure. ¹⁸ O earth, cover not you my blood, and let my cry have no place. ¹⁹ Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.

²¹ O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleads for his neighbor!

²⁷ Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which you wrongfully imagine against me.

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! ⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me. ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. ⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

²⁰ I cry to you, and you do not hear me: I stand up, and you regard me not.

³⁵ Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that my adversary had written a book. ³⁶ Surely I would take it on my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

⁵ For Job has said, I am righteous: and God has taken away my judgment.

⁸ Will you also cancel my judgment? will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

² O my God, I cry in the day time, but you hear not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

⁸ For since I spoke, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach to me, and a derision, daily.

⁸ Also when I cry and shout, he shuts out my prayer.

² O LORD, how long shall I cry, and you will not hear! even cry out to you of violence, and you will not save! ³ Why do you show me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.

⁷ And when they cried to the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea on them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and you dwelled in the wilderness a long season.

²³ Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God has hedged in?

²⁶ When I looked for good, then evil came to me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.

⁸ You have put away my acquaintance far from me; you have made me an abomination to them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

¹⁰ Who is among you that fears the LORD, that obeys the voice of his servant, that walks in darkness, and has no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay on his God.

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

¹² Why their way shall be to them as slippery ways in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil on them, even the year of their visitation, said the LORD.

⁷ He has hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he has made my chain heavy.

⁹ He has enclosed my ways with hewn stone, he has made my paths crooked.

⁶ Therefore, behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths.

¹² Then spoke Jesus again to them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹⁷ He leads counsellors away spoiled, and makes the judges fools.

⁷ When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street! ⁸ The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up. ⁹ The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth. ¹⁰ The nobles held their peace, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth. ¹¹ When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me: ¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came on me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

²⁰ My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand. ²¹ To me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.

¹ But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.

¹⁶ Be not you afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; ¹⁷ For when he dies he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.

³⁹ You have made void the covenant of your servant: you have profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.

⁴⁴ You have made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.

⁶ But you shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: you shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall you boast yourselves.

¹⁶ The crown is fallen from our head: woe to us, that we have sinned!

¹¹ As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.

¹³ And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house: ¹⁴ And there came a messenger to Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them: ¹⁵ And the Sabeans fell on them, and took them away; yes, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and has burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell on the camels, and have carried them away, yes, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁸ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house: ¹⁹ And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.

⁷ So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to his crown.

¹¹ What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is my end, that I should prolong my life?

⁶ My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.

¹³ So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: ¹⁴ Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web. ¹⁵ He shall lean on his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure. ¹⁶ He is green before the sun, and his branch shoots forth in his garden. ¹⁷ His roots are wrapped about the heap, and sees the place of stones. ¹⁸ If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen you.

¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again: he shuts up a man, and there can be no opening.

¹¹ My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.

¹⁵ And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?

²⁰ The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. ³⁶ Yet he passed away, and, see, he was not: yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

¹³ But to you have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent you. ¹⁴ LORD, why cast you off my soul? why hide you your face from me? ¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer your terrors I am distracted. ¹⁶ Your fierce wrath goes over me; your terrors have cut me off. ¹⁷ They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together. ¹⁸ Lover and friend have you put far from me, and my acquaintance into darkness.

¹¹ My days are like a shadow that declines; and I am withered like grass.

⁵ The LORD was as an enemy: he has swallowed up Israel, he has swallowed up all her palaces: he has destroyed his strong holds, and has increased in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation. ⁶ And he has violently taken away his tabernacle, as if it were of a garden: he has destroyed his places of the assembly: the LORD has caused the solemn feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion, and has despised in the indignation of his anger the king and the priest.

⁸ We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; ⁹ Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

²² For a fire is kindled in my anger, and shall burn to the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.

²⁴ Why hide you your face, and hold me for your enemy?

⁹ He tears me in his wrath, who hates me: he gnashes on me with his teeth; my enemy sharpens his eyes on me.

¹⁰ Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me for his enemy,

⁴⁶ How long, LORD? will you hide yourself for ever? shall your wrath burn like fire?

⁷ For we are consumed by your anger, and by your wrath are we troubled.

⁵ The LORD was as an enemy: he has swallowed up Israel, he has swallowed up all her palaces: he has destroyed his strong holds, and has increased in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.

¹² On my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.

⁵ O Assyrian, the rod of my anger, and the staff in their hand is my indignation. ⁶ I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

²³ But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict you; which have said to your soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and you have laid your body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went over.

²¹ For now you are nothing; you see my casting down, and are afraid. ²² Did I say, Bring to me? or, Give a reward for me of your substance? ²³ Or, Deliver me from the enemy's hand? or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty?

⁷ But now he has made me weary: you have made desolate all my company.

¹¹ I was a reproach among all my enemies, but especially among my neighbors, and a fear to my acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.

¹¹ My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

²⁰ Reproach has broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

¹⁸ Lover and friend have you put far from me, and my acquaintance into darkness.

⁵⁶ But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

¹⁶ At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.

²³ And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counceled in those days, was as if a man had inquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

¹² For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him: ¹³ But it was you, a man my equal, my guide, and my acquaintance. ¹⁴ We took sweet counsel together, and walked to the house of God in company.

²⁴ A man that has friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

¹⁰ For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

⁵ Trust you not in a friend, put you not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of your mouth from her that lies in your bosom. ⁶ For the son dishonors the father, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.

²¹ And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.

¹⁸ I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.

³¹ If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied. ³² The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the travelers.

³ Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

¹⁵ And the Sabeans fell on them, and took them away; yes, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and has burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell on the camels, and have carried them away, yes, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.

¹⁹ And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.

⁹ Then said his wife to him, Do you still retain your integrity? curse God, and die. ¹⁰ But he said to her, You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

¹ My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.

²³ And he went up from there to Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, you bald head; go up, you bald head.

⁵ And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbor: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honorable.

¹⁴ To him that is afflicted pity should be showed from his friend; but he forsakes the fear of the Almighty. ¹⁵ My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;

⁹ Yes, my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

²⁰ He has put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him: he has broken his covenant.

⁴ For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself to prayer. ⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

⁴⁸ But Jesus said to him, Judas, betray you the Son of man with a kiss?

⁴ And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yes, all that a man has will he give for his life. ⁵ But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face. ⁶ And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, he is in your hand; but save his life.

⁵ My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken, and become loathsome.

³⁰ My skin is black on me, and my bones are burned with heat.

¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain on his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain: ²⁰ So that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty meat. ²¹ His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out. ²² Yes, his soul draws near to the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the middle of my bowels. ¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue sticks to my jaws; and you have brought me into the dust of death. ¹⁶ For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. ¹⁷ I may tell all my bones: they look and stare on me.

³ When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. ⁴ For day and night your hand was heavy on me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.

³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of your anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

³ For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as an hearth.

⁵ By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones stick to my skin.

⁴ My flesh and my skin has he made old; he has broken my bones.

⁸ Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin sticks to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

¹⁰ Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.

¹¹ But put forth your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.

⁵ But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinks up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

² For your arrows stick fast in me, and your hand presses me sore.

¹⁵ Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

²⁶ And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it.

³ Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.

¹⁶ For it increases. You hunt me as a fierce lion: and again you show yourself marvelous on me.

²⁵ Will you break a leaf driven to and fro? and will you pursue the dry stubble?

³¹ If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

²⁶ For they persecute him whom you have smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom you have wounded.

³ Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

³⁵ Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that my adversary had written a book.

¹ Moreover the LORD said to me, Take you a great roll, and write in it with a man's pen concerning Mahershalalhashbaz.

⁸ Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever:

¹¹ With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, shall you engrave the two stones with the names of the children of Israel: you shall make them to be set in ouches of gold. ¹² And you shall put the two stones on the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial to the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD on his two shoulders for a memorial.

²¹ And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes.

¹⁶ And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven on the tables.

² And it shall be on the day when you shall pass over Jordan to the land which the LORD your God gives you, that you shall set you up great stones, and plaster them with plaster: ³ And you shall write on them all the words of this law, when you are passed over, that you may go in to the land which the LORD your God gives you, a land that flows with milk and honey; as the LORD God of your fathers has promised you.

⁸ And you shall write on the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

¹ The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond: it is graven on the table of their heart, and on the horns of your altars;

¹⁵ And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.

¹⁸ And in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because you have obeyed my voice.

¹⁹ Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.

²³ If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man his uprightness: ²⁴ Then he is gracious to him, and said, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

¹⁴ Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

³⁵ And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

¹¹ For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with you.

¹⁴ Thus said the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.

⁵ For your Maker is your husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and your Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

²⁰ And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and to them that turn from transgression in Jacob, said the LORD. ²¹ As for me, this is my covenant with them, said the LORD; My spirit that is on you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, nor out of the mouth of your seed, nor out of the mouth of your seed's seed, said the LORD, from now on and for ever.

³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

²² For the Father judges no man, but has committed all judgment to the Son: ²³ That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honors not the Son honors not the Father which has sent him. ²⁴ Truly, truly, I say to you, He that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death to life. ²⁵ Truly, truly, I say to you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself; so has he given to the Son to have life in himself; ²⁷ And has given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. ²⁸ Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, ²⁹ And shall come forth; they that have done good, to the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, to the resurrection of damnation.

⁷ In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

¹⁴ And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints,

⁹ Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices: my flesh also shall rest in hope.

¹¹ You will show me the path of life: in your presence is fullness of joy; at your right hand there are pleasures for ever more.

¹⁵ As for me, I will behold your face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with your likeness.

⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

¹² For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

⁵³ For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

²¹ Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like to his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things to himself.

² Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

⁷ Behold, he comes with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

¹⁷ I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not near: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Scepter shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.

²⁶ My flesh and my heart fails: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

¹⁹ Your dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, you that dwell in dust: for your dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

¹³ And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him: for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward the LORD God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.

²² Why do you persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

⁷ Will you speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him? ⁸ Will you accept his person? will you contend for God? ⁹ Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocks another, do you so mock him? ¹⁰ He will surely reprove you, if you do secretly accept persons. ¹¹ Shall not his excellency make you afraid? and his dread fall on you?

²² He believes not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.

⁴ Will he reprove you for fear of you? will he enter with you into judgment?

⁵ Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

⁷ But the LORD shall endure for ever: he has prepared his throne for judgment.

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. ¹¹ So that a man shall say, Truly there is a reward for the righteous: truly he is a God that judges in the earth.

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes: but know you, that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

¹⁴ For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

¹ Judge not, that you be not judged. ² For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again.

¹ Let every soul be subject to the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. ² Whoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. ³ For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Will you then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and you shall have praise of the same: ⁴ For he is the minister of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he bears not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath on him that does evil.

¹¹ Speak not evil one of another, brothers. He that speaks evil of his brother, and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law, and judges the law: but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge. ¹² There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who are you that judge another?
