²⁵ If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall entreat for him? Notwithstanding they listened not to the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

¹ Hear, you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. ² For I give you good doctrine, forsake you not my law. ³ For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. ⁴ He taught me also, and said to me, Let your heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. ⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve you: love her, and she shall keep you. ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding. ⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote you: she shall bring you to honor, when you do embrace her. ⁹ She shall give to your head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to you. ¹⁰ Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of your life shall be many. ¹¹ I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. ¹² When you go, your steps shall not be straitened; and when you run, you shall not stumble. ¹³ Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is your life. ¹⁴ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

²⁰ My son, attend to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. ²¹ Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the middle of your heart. ²² For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

⁷ He that reproves a scorner gets to himself shame: and he that rebukes a wicked man gets himself a blot. ⁸ Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate you: rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

¹⁴ Why hear the word of the LORD, you scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ Because you have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing whip shall pass through, it shall not come to us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:

⁸ For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he pours out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.

¹¹ Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privately for the innocent without cause: ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: ¹³ We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

¹⁸ And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privately for their own lives.

³¹ Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

¹¹ The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

¹⁴ A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered to him.

²⁰ A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

²⁷ Therefore you shall say to them, Thus said the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink you, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you. ²⁸ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at your hand to drink, then shall you say to them, Thus said the LORD of hosts; You shall certainly drink. ²⁹ For, see, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth, said the LORD of hosts. ³⁰ Therefore prophesy you against them all these words, and say to them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar on his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. ³¹ A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD has a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, said the LORD.

⁸ Because you have spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil you; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

¹⁷ For the violence of Lebanon shall cover you, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

⁶ For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and you have given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

¹ I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words there wants not sin: but he that refrains his lips is wise.

¹³ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.

⁷ A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

¹⁹ He that goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flatters with his lips.

²³ Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

³⁶ But I say to you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.

²⁶ If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

² For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. ³ Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. ⁴ Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, wherever the governor wants. ⁵ Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindles! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. ⁷ For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed of mankind: ⁸ But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. ⁹ Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. ¹⁰ Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not so to be. ¹¹ Does a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? ¹² Can the fig tree, my brothers, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

¹⁰ Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

¹⁴ They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;

² So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ Yes, if you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures; ⁵ Then shall you understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. ⁸ He keeps the paths of judgment, and preserves the way of his saints. ⁹ Then shall you understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yes, every good path.

³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

⁴ He becomes poor that deals with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

²⁵ The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that waters shall be watered also himself.

¹¹ He that tills his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that follows vain persons is void of understanding.

²⁴ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

¹³ The slothful man said, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

²⁵ He that is of a proud heart stirs up strife: but he that puts his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

¹¹ And the LORD shall guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and make fat your bones: and you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

²⁷ Labor not for the meat which perishes, but for that meat which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give to you: for him has God the Father sealed.

¹¹ And we desire that every one of you do show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope to the end:

⁵ And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; ⁶ And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; ⁷ And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. ⁸ For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that you shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ But he that lacks these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. ¹⁰ Why the rather, brothers, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you shall never fall: ¹¹ For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

¹⁶³ I hate and abhor lying: but your law do I love.

³⁵ The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

¹⁷ A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

⁸ Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

⁹ And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations where they shall be carried captives, because I am broken with their whorish heart, which has departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a whoring after their idols: and they shall loathe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.

⁴³ And there shall you remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein you have been defiled; and you shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that you have committed.

³¹ Then shall you remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

² And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

⁸ Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me.

²⁵ Why putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.

⁹ Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds;

⁸ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

²³ For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

² He that walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart.

²¹ Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on you.

¹ Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in my integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide.

²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins.

³ The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

⁵ The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness. ⁶ The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.

¹² The righteous man wisely considers the house of the wicked: but God overthrows the wicked for their wickedness.

²⁴ There is that scatters, and yet increases; and there is that withholds more than is meet, but it tends to poverty.

⁹ He that is despised, and has a servant, is better than he that honors himself, and lacks bread.

¹¹ Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathers by labor shall increase.

¹ Cast your bread on the waters: for you shall find it after many days. ² Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you know not what evil shall be on the earth.

²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

³³ Sell that you have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches, neither moth corrupts.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank you, that I am not as other men are, extortionists, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. ¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes to heaven, but smote on his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

⁸ Now you are full, now you are rich, you have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God you did reign, that we also might reign with you.

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even to this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling place;

⁷ But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

¹⁰ As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him?

¹⁹ While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

⁹ I know your works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but you are rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

¹⁷ Because you say, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and know not that you are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

³⁰ If there be laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatever is laid on him.

¹⁴ And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valor, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths: none remained, save the poorest sort of the people of the land.

¹² But the captain of the guard left of the door of the poor of the land to be vinedressers and farmers.

⁴ And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yes, all that a man has will he give for his life.

⁶ They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁷ None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: ⁸ (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases for ever:) ⁹ That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. ¹⁰ For he sees that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

³⁵ He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.

¹⁰ But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, which had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.

⁸ But ten men were found among them that said to Ishmael, Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he declined, and slew them not among their brothers.

¹² I will also leave in the middle of you an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

¹⁸ For as much as you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; ¹⁹ But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

³⁶ And to his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.

⁵ Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

¹⁷ How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft comes their destruction on them! God distributes sorrows in his anger.

³ When his candle shined on my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

⁴ To the upright there rises light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more to the perfect day.

²⁰ Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

²⁰ For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

¹⁰ Who is among you that fears the LORD, that obeys the voice of his servant, that walks in darkness, and has no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay on his God. ¹¹ Behold, all you that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that you have kindled. This shall you have of my hand; you shall lie down in sorrow.

¹³ Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁸ And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

¹ And the men of Ephraim said to him, Why have you served us thus, that you called us not, when you went to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply. ² And he said to them, What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer? ³ God has delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

¹ And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said to Jephthah, Why passed you over to fight against the children of Ammon, and did not call us to go with you? we will burn your house on you with fire. ² And Jephthah said to them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you delivered me not out of their hands. ³ And when I saw that you delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: why then are you come up to me this day, to fight against me? ⁴ Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, You Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites. ⁵ And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said to him, Are you an Ephraimite? If he said, No; ⁶ Then said they to him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.

¹⁰ And the young men that were grown up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shall you speak to this people that spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but make you it lighter to us; thus shall you say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins. ¹¹ And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father has chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

¹⁶ So when all Israel saw that the king listened not to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to your own house, David. So Israel departed to their tents.

¹⁰ You have indeed smitten Edom, and your heart has lifted you up: glory of this, and tarry at home: for why should you meddle to your hurt, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?

¹⁵ The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that listens to counsel is wise. ¹⁶ A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covers shame.

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is as when one lets out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

²⁰ Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.

¹⁸ Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

²⁴ Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who deals in proud wrath.

⁸ Go not forth hastily to strive, lest you know not what to do in the end thereof, when your neighbor has put you to shame.

²⁸ For which of you, intending to build a tower, sits not down first, and counts the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? ²⁹ Lest haply, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, ³⁰ Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. ³¹ Or what king, going to make war against another king, sits not down first, and consults whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand? ³² Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an ambassador, and desires conditions of peace.

²⁴ And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

¹ And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. ² Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples to them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. ³ Why, brothers, look you out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. ⁴ But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. ⁵ And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

⁴ He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

¹⁴ But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

¹ From where come wars and fights among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

⁵ Do you think that the scripture said in vain, The spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy? ⁶ But he gives more grace. Why he said, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

⁹ I wrote to the church: but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, receives us not. ¹⁰ Why, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he does, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither does he himself receive the brothers, and forbids them that would, and casts them out of the church.

²⁸ And he dwells in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabits, which are ready to become heaps. ²⁹ He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof on the earth.

¹⁵ He has swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.

¹⁹ Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away an house which he built not; ²⁰ Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired. ²¹ There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come on him.

¹⁶ Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay; ¹⁷ He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

² For you shall eat the labor of your hands: happy shall you be, and it shall be well with you.

² Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivers from death.

²² A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. ²³ Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

²¹ An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.

²³ Be you diligent to know the state of your flocks, and look well to your herds. ²⁴ For riches are not for ever: and does the crown endure to every generation? ²⁵ The hay appears, and the tender grass shows itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered. ²⁶ The lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of the field. ²⁷ And you shall have goats' milk enough for your food, for the food of your household, and for the maintenance for your maidens.

⁸ He that by usury and unjust gain increases his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

²⁰ A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that makes haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

²² He that hastens to be rich has an evil eye, and considers not that poverty shall come on him.

¹⁴ But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begets a son, and there is nothing in his hand.

¹¹ As the partridge sits on eggs, and hatches them not; so he that gets riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the middle of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.

⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increases that which is not his! how long? and to him that lades himself with thick clay! ⁷ Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite you, and awake that shall vex you, and you shall be for booties to them?

¹ Go to now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come on you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver is corroded; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, cries: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. ⁵ You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

⁶ And Sarah said, God has made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. ⁷ And she said, Who would have said to Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.

³⁰ And Israel said to Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen your face, because you are yet alive.

²⁶ And she said, Oh my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman that stood by you here, praying to the LORD. ²⁷ For this child I prayed; and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him: ²⁸ Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

¹⁵ As for me, I will behold your face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with your likeness.

² He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet on a rock, and established my goings. ³ And he has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

¹ As the hart pants after the water brooks, so pants my soul after you, O God. ² My soul thirsts for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? ³ My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say to me, Where is your God?

³ I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: my eyes fail while I wait for my God.

⁸¹ My soul faints for your salvation: but I hope in your word. ⁸² My eyes fail for your word, saying, When will you comfort me? ⁸³ For I am become like a bottle in the smoke; yet do I not forget your statutes.

⁷ Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit fails: hide not your face from me, lest I be like to them that go down into the pit.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to them that lay hold on her: and happy is every one that retains her.

³⁰ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that wins souls is wise.

¹⁹ The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

⁸ I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if you find my beloved, that you tell him, that I am sick of love.

²⁹ Lord, now let you your servant depart in peace, according to your word: ³⁰ For my eyes have seen your salvation,

²² And you now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man takes from you.

² In the middle of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bore twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

³¹ Because he has despised the word of the LORD, and has broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be on him.

⁹ Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? you have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house; because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

³ Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.

¹¹ Moreover by them is your servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

¹³ He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great.

¹⁶⁵ Great peace have they which love your law: and nothing shall offend them.

²⁵ But you have set at nothing all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

³⁰ They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. ³¹ Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

²¹ Evil pursues sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

² For all those things has my hand made, and all those things have been, said the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at my word.

² Then spoke Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying to Jeremiah, You speak falsely: the LORD our God has not sent you to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:

¹⁶ As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD, we will not listen to you. ¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatever thing goes forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.

¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury on them in the wilderness, to consume them.

¹² Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

³¹ And he said to him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

²⁸ He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: ²⁹ Of how much sorer punishment, suppose you, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and has done despite to the Spirit of grace?

⁸ Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have worked, but that we receive a full reward.

⁶ The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me; ⁷ In my distress I called on the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

¹¹ For by me your days shall be multiplied, and the years of your life shall be increased.

²⁷ The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

²⁴ The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

⁶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

¹⁷ The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keeps his way preserves his soul.

²² Understanding is a wellspring of life to him that has it: but the instruction of fools is folly.

¹⁴ And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him. ¹⁵ Why when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him. ¹⁶ But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

⁹ When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. ¹⁰ Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways: ¹¹ To whom I swore in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endures for ever.

⁴ So shall you find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

³⁵ The king's favor is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causes shame.

¹⁰ Correction is grievous to him that forsakes the way: and he that hates reproof shall die.

¹⁹ Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that my fear is not in you, said the Lord GOD of hosts.

⁵² And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

¹⁰ And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

²¹ What fruit had you then in those things whereof you are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

¹⁰ And Nabal answered David's servants, and said, Who is David? and who is the son of Jesse? there be many servants now a days that break away every man from his master. ¹¹ Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers, and give it to men, whom I know not from where they be?

¹⁷ Now therefore know and consider what you will do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him.

²⁵ Let not my lord, I pray you, regard this man of Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I your handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom you did send.

⁵ A good man shows favor, and lends: he will guide his affairs with discretion.

²² Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight. ²³ A prudent man conceals knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.

² The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.

³ Yes also, when he that is a fool walks by the way, his wisdom fails him, and he said to every one that he is a fool.

¹³ Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the middle of wolves: be you therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

¹⁹ For your obedience is come abroad to all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise to that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

²⁰ Brothers, be not children in understanding: however, in malice be you children, but in understanding be men.

¹⁷ Why be you not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

²⁶ As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

¹³ As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refreshes the soul of his masters.

²³ The north wind drives away rain: so does an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

⁶ He that sends a message by the hand of a fool cuts off the feet, and drinks damage.

¹³ And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err. ¹⁴ I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none does return from his wickedness; they are all of them to me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah. ¹⁵ Therefore thus said the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land. ¹⁶ Thus said the LORD of hosts, Listen not to the words of the prophets that prophesy to you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.

²⁸ The prophet that has a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that has my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? said the LORD.

¹⁸ When I say to the wicked, You shall surely die; and you give him not warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at your hand.

⁷ So you, O son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. ⁸ When I say to the wicked, O wicked man, you shall surely die; if you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at your hand.

² Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

¹⁷ For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

²⁰ Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be you reconciled to God.

¹² And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

² And the things that you have heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit you to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

⁵ Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.

⁹ Lest you give your honor to others, and your years to the cruel: ¹⁰ Lest strangers be filled with your wealth; and your labors be in the house of a stranger; ¹¹ And you mourn at the last, when your flesh and your body are consumed, ¹² And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; ¹³ And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to them that instructed me! ¹⁴ I was almost in all evil in the middle of the congregation and assembly.

⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

¹ Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge: but he that hates reproof is brutish.

¹³ Whoever despises the word shall be destroyed: but he that fears the commandment shall be rewarded.

³¹ The ear that hears the reproof of life stays among the wise. ³² He that refuses instruction despises his own soul: but he that hears reproof gets understanding.

⁶ Many will entreat the favor of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that gives gifts.

¹² As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover on an obedient ear.

³ O LORD, are not your eyes on the truth? you have stricken them, but they have not grieved; you have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return. ⁴ Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God. ⁵ I will get me to the great men, and will speak to them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds. ⁶ Why a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goes out there shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased. ⁷ How shall I pardon you for this? your children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses. ⁸ They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbor's wife. ⁹ Shall I not visit for these things? said the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

²⁵ See that you refuse not him that speaks. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaks from heaven:

⁴⁸ And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which has given one to sit on my throne this day, my eyes even seeing it.

²⁸ And to man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹ The king shall joy in your strength, O LORD; and in your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice! ² You have given him his heart's desire, and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah.

¹⁴ Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

²⁷ Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for ever more.

⁷ Be not wise in your own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

¹² Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.

²⁷ An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.

⁴ It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loves: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother's house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.

¹⁹ Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, The Lord knows them that are his. And, Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

⁷ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: ⁸ From now on there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but to all them also that love his appearing.

¹⁴ And I said to him, Sir, you know. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sits on the throne shall dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb which is in the middle of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them to living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

¹² Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. ¹³ But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

¹² And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelled in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

⁸ But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:

¹⁰ And the young men that were grown up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shall you speak to this people that spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but make you it lighter to us; thus shall you say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

⁴ And he said to Jehoshaphat, Will you go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.

³² And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.

² And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Should you help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore is wrath on you from before the LORD.

⁶³ I am a companion of all them that fear you, and of them that keep your precepts.

¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privately for the innocent without cause: ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: ¹³ We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: ¹⁴ Cast in your lot among us; let us all have one purse: ¹⁵ My son, walk not you in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path: ¹⁶ For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. ¹⁷ Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. ¹⁸ And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privately for their own lives. ¹⁹ So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which takes away the life of the owners thereof.

¹² To deliver you from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaks fraudulent things; ¹³ Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; ¹⁴ Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; ¹⁵ Whose ways are crooked, and they fraudulent in their paths: ¹⁶ To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flatters with her words; ¹⁷ Which forsakes the guide of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God. ¹⁸ For her house inclines to death, and her paths to the dead. ¹⁹ None that go to her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life. ²⁰ That you may walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

²² He goes after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; ²³ Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and knows not that it is for his life.

²⁷ Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

⁶ Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

³¹ The ear that hears the reproof of life stays among the wise.

⁷ Tell me, O you whom my soul loves, where you feed, where you make your flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turns aside by the flocks of your companions? ⁸ If you know not, O you fairest among women, go your way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed your kids beside the shepherds' tents.

⁴² And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

³³ Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. ³⁴ Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

¹⁴ Be you not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion has light with darkness? ¹⁵ And what concord has Christ with Belial? or what part has he that believes with an infidel? ¹⁶ And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? for you are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ¹⁷ Why come out from among them, and be you separate, said the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. ¹⁸ And will be a Father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, said the Lord Almighty.

²⁴ And let us consider one another to provoke to love and to good works:

⁴ And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues.

⁷ If you do well, shall you not be accepted? and if you do not well, sin lies at the door. And to you shall be his desire, and you shall rule over him.

²³ But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

¹⁰ Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusts in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about.

¹⁰ Say you to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. ¹¹ Woe to the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

⁴ And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffers not to live.

⁷ To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life: ⁸ But to them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, ⁹ Tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; ¹⁰ But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you, and to your seed after you. ⁸ And I will give to you, and to your seed after you, the land wherein you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

¹² Now therefore give not your daughters to their sons, neither take their daughters to your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that you may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.

¹² What man is he that fears the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. ¹³ His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.

²⁵ I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

²⁸ The children of your servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before you.

² His seed shall be mighty on earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

⁶ Yes, you shall see your children's children, and peace on Israel.

²⁶ For God gives to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: ⁷ Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, ⁸ Provides her meat in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. ⁹ How long will you sleep, O sluggard? when will you arise out of your sleep? ¹⁰ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ¹¹ So shall your poverty come as one that travels, and your want as an armed man.

¹⁸ Whoever keeps the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waits on his master shall be honored.

⁵ Whoever keeps the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment. ⁶ Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great on him. ⁷ Yes, the stork in the heaven knows her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD. ⁸ How do you say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? See, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain. ⁹ The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: see, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them? ¹⁰ Therefore will I give their wives to others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for every one from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even to the priest every one deals falsely.

¹² For whom the LORD loves he corrects; even as a father the son in whom he delights.

³⁶ But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

¹⁸ Chasten your son while there is hope, and let not your soul spare for his crying.

¹⁵ Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

¹³ Withhold not correction from the child: for if you beat him with the rod, he shall not die. ¹⁴ You shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from hell.

¹⁵ The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.

¹⁷ Correct your son, and he shall give you rest; yes, he shall give delight to your soul.

⁶ For whom the Lord loves he chastens, and whips every son whom he receives. ⁷ If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not? ⁸ But if you be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are you bastards, and not sons.

⁴⁸ Therefore shall you serve your enemies which the LORD shall send against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron on your neck, until he have destroyed you.

²⁴ They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts on them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.

¹⁰ The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

³ Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and truly you shall be fed.

¹⁶ A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked.
