¹ A GOOD name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold. ² The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all. ³ A prudent man foresees the evil, and hides himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. ⁴ By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honor, and life. ⁵ Thorns and snares are in the way of the fraudulent: he that does keep his soul shall be far from them. ⁶ Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. ⁷ The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. ⁸ He that sows iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail. ⁹ He that has a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he gives of his bread to the poor. ¹⁰ Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yes, strife and reproach shall cease. ¹¹ He that loves pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend. ¹² The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthrows the words of the transgressor. ¹³ The slothful man said, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets. ¹⁴ The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein. ¹⁵ Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. ¹⁶ He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that gives to the rich, shall surely come to want. ¹⁷ Bow down your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge. ¹⁸ For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; they shall with be fitted in your lips. ¹⁹ That your trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to you this day, even to you. ²⁰ Have not I written to you excellent things in counsels and knowledge, ²¹ That I might make you know the certainty of the words of truth; that you might answer the words of truth to them that send to you? ²² Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: ²³ For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them. ²⁴ Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man you shall not go: ²⁵ Lest you learn his ways, and get a snare to your soul. ²⁶ Be not you one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts. ²⁷ If you have nothing to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you? ²⁸ Remove not the ancient landmark, which your fathers have set. ²⁹ See you a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

⁴⁷ And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne. And the king bowed himself on the bed.

¹ A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.

²⁰ Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject to you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

¹⁰ And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

³ And I entreat you also, true yoke fellow, help those women which labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow laborers, whose names are in the book of life.

³⁹ And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich: he brings low, and lifts up.

¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

¹⁹ How much less to him that accepts not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

¹ Hear this, all you people; give ear, all you inhabitants of the world: ² Both low and high, rich and poor, together.

³¹ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: but he that honors him has mercy on the poor.

¹³ The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lightens both their eyes.

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

²¹ And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

² For if there come to your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; ³ And you have respect to him that wears the gay clothing, and say to him, Sit you here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand you there, or sit here under my footstool: ⁴ Are you not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? ⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him?

²⁰ He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses: ²¹ And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.

⁷ And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

²² He goes after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; ²³ Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and knows not that it is for his life.

¹⁶ Whoever is simple, let him turn in here: and as for him that wants understanding, she said to him, ¹⁷ Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. ¹⁸ But he knows not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

¹⁶ A wise man fears, and departs from evil: but the fool rages, and is confident.

¹ He, that being often reproved hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

²⁰ Come, my people, enter you into your chambers, and shut your doors about you: hide yourself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be over. ²¹ For, behold, the LORD comes out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.

¹⁵ When you therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoever reads, let him understand:) ¹⁶ Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: ¹⁷ Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: ¹⁸ Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

² For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. ³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction comes on them, as travail on a woman with child; and they shall not escape. ⁴ But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. ⁵ You are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. ⁶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

¹⁸ That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold on the hope set before us:

⁷ By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

⁹ O fear the LORD, you his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. ¹⁰ The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

¹ Praise you the LORD. Blessed is the man that fears the LORD, that delights greatly in his commandments. ² His seed shall be mighty on earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. ³ Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endures for ever.

¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor.

²¹ He that follows after righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness, and honor.

⁶ And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of your times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure.

¹⁵ For thus said the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

³³ But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.

⁸ For bodily exercise profits little: but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

⁶ But he gives more grace. Why he said, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

¹³ Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks on a snare.

⁶ On the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

²⁶ With the pure you will show yourself pure; and with the fraudulent you will show yourself devious. ²⁷ For you will save the afflicted people; but will bring down high looks.

¹ He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

³ He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens wide his lips shall have destruction.

¹⁵ Good understanding gives favor: but the way of transgressors is hard.

¹⁹ The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

¹⁷ The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keeps his way preserves his soul.

¹⁶ He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul; but he that despises his ways shall die.

¹⁸ We know that whoever is born of God sins not; but he that is begotten of God keeps himself, and that wicked one touches him not.

²⁰ But you, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, ²¹ Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

¹⁹ For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.

⁹ Only take heed to yourself, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life: but teach them your sons, and your sons' sons;

⁷ And you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

²⁸ Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

²⁶ And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favor both with the LORD, and also with men.

² And now, behold, the king walks before you: and I am old and gray headed; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood to this day. ³ Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind my eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

³ Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he has done. ⁵ For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: ⁶ That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

⁴ And, you fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

¹⁵ And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

¹ Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets to Elisha, saying, Your servant my husband is dead; and you know that your servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take to him my two sons to be slaves.

⁴ There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that on our lands and vineyards. ⁵ Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children: and, see, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought to bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.

²³ The poor uses entreaties; but the rich answers roughly.

¹⁶ He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that gives to the rich, shall surely come to want.

²² Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

² And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.

⁶ Thus said the LORD; For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes;

¹ Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

¹¹ For as much therefore as your treading is on the poor, and you take from him burdens of wheat: you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them; you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink wine of them. ¹² For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.

⁴ Hear this, O you that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

⁶ That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yes, and sell the refuse of the wheat?

²⁵ But for as much as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

⁶ But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

¹ Go to now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come on you.

⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, cries: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

⁸ Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

³ For the rod of the wicked shall not rest on the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands to iniquity.

³ In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

⁴ For you have broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

⁵ O Assyrian, the rod of my anger, and the staff in their hand is my indignation.

²⁹ Rejoice not you, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote you is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

³¹ For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod.

⁷ For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it has no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

¹³ You have plowed wickedness, you have reaped iniquity; you have eaten the fruit of lies: because you did trust in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.

⁷ Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

⁷ If there be among you a poor man of one of your brothers within any of your gates in your land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother: ⁸ But you shall open your hand wide to him, and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wants. ⁹ Beware that there be not a thought in your wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and your eye be evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing; and he cry to the LORD against you, and it be sin to you. ¹⁰ You shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him: because that for this thing the LORD your God shall bless you in all your works, and in all that you put your hand to. ¹¹ For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command you, saying, You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor, and to your needy, in your land.

⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you, which would not adventure to set the sole of her foot on the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter,

¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless has not eaten thereof; ¹⁸ (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;) ¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; ²⁰ If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

¹ Blessed is he that considers the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. ² The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed on the earth: and you will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. ³ The LORD will strengthen him on the bed of languishing: you will make all his bed in his sickness.

⁹ He has dispersed, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.

²⁵ The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that waters shall be watered also himself.

¹⁷ He that has pity on the poor lends to the LORD; and that which he has given will he pay him again.

¹³ Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

¹ Cast your bread on the waters: for you shall find it after many days. ² Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you know not what evil shall be on the earth.

⁸ But the liberal devises liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.

⁷ Is it not to deal your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor that are cast out to your house? when you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you hide not yourself from your own flesh? ⁸ Then shall your light break forth as the morning, and your health shall spring forth speedily: and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. ⁹ Then shall you call, and the LORD shall answer; you shall cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If you take away from the middle of you the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; ¹⁰ And if you draw out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall your light rise in obscurity, and your darkness be as the noon day: ¹¹ And the LORD shall guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and make fat your bones: and you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. ¹² And they that shall be of you shall build the old waste places: you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with my own? Is your eye evil, because I am good?

³⁴ Then shall the King say to them on his right hand, Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: ³⁵ For I was an hungered, and you gave me meat: I was thirsty, and you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in: ³⁶ Naked, and you clothed me: I was sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me. ³⁷ Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we you an hungered, and fed you? or thirsty, and gave you drink? ³⁸ When saw we you a stranger, and took you in? or naked, and clothed you? ³⁹ Or when saw we you sick, or in prison, and came to you? ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me.

²² Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

³⁵ But love you your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil. ³⁶ Be you therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. ³⁷ Judge not, and you shall not be judged: condemn not, and you shall not be condemned: forgive, and you shall be forgiven: ³⁸ Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you mete with it shall be measured to you again.

¹³ But when you make a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

³⁵ I have showed you all things, how that so laboring you ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

¹ Moreover, brothers, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; ² How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their liberality.

⁶ But this I say, He which sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully. ⁷ Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: ⁹ (As it is written, He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor: his righteousness remains for ever. ¹⁰ Now he that ministers seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) ¹¹ Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causes through us thanksgiving to God.

¹⁸ That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; ¹⁹ Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

¹⁰ For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which you have showed toward his name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

¹⁶ But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

⁹ Use hospitality one to another without grudging.

⁹ And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born to Abraham, mocking. ¹⁰ Why she said to Abraham, Cast out this female slave and her son: for the son of this female slave shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.

¹ But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we built the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews. ² And he spoke before his brothers and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned? ³ Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.

²⁸ And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.

⁵ Whoever privately slanders his neighbor, him will I cut off: him that has an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.

⁶ A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for strokes.

²⁴ Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who deals in proud wrath.

²⁰ Where no wood is, there the fire goes out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceases. ²¹ As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

¹⁷ And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it to the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be to you as an heathen man and a publican.

⁵ To deliver such an one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ Your glorying is not good. Know you not that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?

¹³ But them that are without God judges. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

³⁹ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, For as much as God has showed you all this, there is none so discreet and wise as you are: ⁴⁰ You shall be over my house, and according to your word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than you. ⁴¹ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt. ⁴² And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in clothing of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck; ⁴³ And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. ⁴⁴ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without you shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt. ⁴⁵ And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt. ⁴⁶ And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt. ⁴⁷ And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls. ⁴⁸ And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same. ⁴⁹ And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number. ⁵⁰ And to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bore to him. ⁵¹ And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, has made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house. ⁵² And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction. ⁵³ And the seven years of plenty, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended. ⁵⁴ And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread. ⁵⁵ And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; what he said to you, do. ⁵⁶ And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold to the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt. ⁵⁷ And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.

⁶ This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God on him. ⁷ And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, to Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king. ⁸ And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king. ⁹ For on the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God on him. ¹⁰ For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments. ¹¹ Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.

⁴ Then the king said to me, For what do you make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. ⁵ And I said to the king, If it please the king, and if your servant have found favor in your sight, that you would send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' sepulchers, that I may build it. ⁶ And the king said to me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall your journey be? and when will you return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.

³ For Mordecai the Jew was next to king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brothers, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed.

² You are fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into your lips: therefore God has blessed you for ever.

⁶ My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walks in a perfect way, he shall serve me.

³⁵ The king's favor is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causes shame.

¹³ Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaks right.

⁴⁶ Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odors to him. ⁴⁷ The king answered to Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing you could reveal this secret. ⁴⁸ Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon. ⁴⁹ Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.

³⁰ Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.

²⁰ And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice to Daniel: and the king spoke and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions? ²¹ Then said Daniel to the king, O king, live for ever. ²² My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: for as much as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no hurt. ²³ Then was the king exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found on him, because he believed in his God.

⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

²² And all bore him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein you have done foolishly: therefore from now on you shall have wars.

¹² He disappoints the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise. ¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the fraudulent is carried headlong.

¹⁹ So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. ²⁰ And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and to them that turn from transgression in Jacob, said the LORD. ²¹ As for me, this is my covenant with them, said the LORD; My spirit that is on you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, nor out of the mouth of your seed, nor out of the mouth of your seed's seed, said the LORD, from now on and for ever.

¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. ¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, but my Father which is in heaven. ¹⁸ And I say also to you, That you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

³⁹ But if it be of God, you cannot overthrow it; lest haply you be found even to fight against God.

⁹ But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: ¹⁰ To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. ¹¹ And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. ¹² But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost. ²⁴ But the word of God grew and multiplied.

⁸ But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. ⁹ Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him. ¹⁰ And said, O full of all subtlety and all mischief, you child of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? ¹¹ And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. ¹² Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

⁸ And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

⁸ Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. ⁹ But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest to all men, as their's also was.

³ And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and three score days, clothed in sackcloth. ⁴ These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. ⁵ And if any man will hurt them, fire proceeds out of their mouth, and devours their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. ⁶ These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. ⁷ And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. ⁸ And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. ⁹ And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. ¹⁰ And they that dwell on the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelled on the earth. ¹¹ And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood on their feet; and great fear fell on them which saw them.

¹⁴ And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. ¹⁵ And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. ¹⁶ And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. ¹⁷ And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

³² And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched to the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eats up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. ³³ And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

¹³ The slothful man said, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. ¹⁴ As the door turns on his hinges, so does the slothful on his bed. ¹⁵ The slothful hides his hand in his bosom; it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth. ¹⁶ The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

¹⁹ And when the LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters.

²⁰ And she said, The Philistines be on you, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he knew not that the LORD was departed from him. ²¹ But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

²⁶ Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.

¹² So I gave them up to their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels.

¹⁶ To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flatters with her words; ¹⁷ Which forsakes the guide of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God. ¹⁸ For her house inclines to death, and her paths to the dead. ¹⁹ None that go to her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

³ For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: ⁴ But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. ⁵ Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. ⁶ Lest you should ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that you can not know them. ⁷ Hear me now therefore, O you children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. ⁸ Remove your way far from her, and come not near the door of her house: ⁹ Lest you give your honor to others, and your years to the cruel: ¹⁰ Lest strangers be filled with your wealth; and your labors be in the house of a stranger; ¹¹ And you mourn at the last, when your flesh and your body are consumed, ¹² And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; ¹³ And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to them that instructed me! ¹⁴ I was almost in all evil in the middle of the congregation and assembly. ¹⁵ Drink waters out of your own cistern, and running waters out of your own well. ¹⁶ Let your fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets. ¹⁷ Let them be only your own, and not strangers' with you. ¹⁸ Let your fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of your youth. ¹⁹ Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy you at all times; and be you ravished always with her love. ²⁰ And why will you, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? ²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he ponders all his goings. ²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins. ²³ He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

²⁴ To keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. ²⁵ Lust not after her beauty in your heart; neither let her take you with her eyelids. ²⁶ For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life. ²⁷ Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? ²⁸ Can one go on hot coals, and his feet not be burned? ²⁹ So he that goes in to his neighbor's wife; whoever touches her shall not be innocent.

⁵ That they may keep you from the strange woman, from the stranger which flatters with her words. ⁶ For at the window of my house I looked through my casement, ⁷ And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, ⁸ Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, ⁹ In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night: ¹⁰ And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtle of heart. ¹¹ (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: ¹² Now is she without, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every corner.) ¹³ So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said to him, ¹⁴ I have peace offerings with me; this day have I paid my vows. ¹⁵ Therefore came I forth to meet you, diligently to seek your face, and I have found you. ¹⁶ I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. ¹⁷ I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. ¹⁸ Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves. ¹⁹ For the manager is not at home, he is gone a long journey: ²⁰ He has taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed. ²¹ With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him. ²² He goes after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; ²³ Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and knows not that it is for his life. ²⁴ Listen to me now therefore, O you children, and attend to the words of my mouth. ²⁵ Let not your heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths. ²⁶ For she has cast down many wounded: yes, many strong men have been slain by her. ²⁷ Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

²⁷ For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

²⁶ And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoever pleases God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.

⁴ Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

⁵ Behold, I was shaped in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

²⁴ He that spares his rod hates his son: but he that loves him chastens him betimes.

¹⁸ Chasten your son while there is hope, and let not your soul spare for his crying.

¹³ Withhold not correction from the child: for if you beat him with the rod, he shall not die. ¹⁴ You shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from hell.

¹⁵ The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.

¹⁷ Correct your son, and he shall give you rest; yes, he shall give delight to your soul.

⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

³ Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

¹⁰ For they truly for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to them which are exercised thereby.

¹⁹ Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away an house which he built not; ²⁰ Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired. ²¹ There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come on him. ²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath on him, and shall rain it on him while he is eating. ²⁴ He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through. ²⁵ It is drawn, and comes out of the body; yes, the glittering sword comes out of his gall: terrors are on him. ²⁶ All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle. ²⁷ The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him. ²⁸ The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath. ²⁹ This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed to him by God.

⁵ For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, said the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffs at him.

²² Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: ²³ For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

³ A poor man that oppresses the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaves no food.

²² He that hastens to be rich has an evil eye, and considers not that poverty shall come on him.

² And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage. ³ Therefore thus said the LORD; Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which you shall not remove your necks; neither shall you go haughtily: for this time is evil.

⁹ Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and show mercy and compassions every man to his brother: ¹⁰ And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart. ¹¹ But they refused to listen, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. ¹² Yes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts has sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts. ¹³ Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, said the LORD of hosts: ¹⁴ But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.

³³ And if you do good to them which do good to you, what thank have you? for sinners also do even the same. ³⁴ And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what thank have you? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. ³⁵ But love you your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil.

¹² Then said he also to him that bade him, When you make a dinner or a supper, call not your friends, nor your brothers, neither your kinsmen, nor your rich neighbors; lest they also bid you again, and a recompense be made you. ¹³ But when you make a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: ¹⁴ And you shall be blessed; for they cannot recompense you: for you shall be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

¹³ For he shall have judgment without mercy, that has showed no mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment.

¹ Go to now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come on you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver is corroded; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, cries: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. ⁵ You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

¹² So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.

³ To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

² So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ Yes, if you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures; ⁵ Then shall you understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

¹ My son, forget not my law; but let your heart keep my commandments:

⁴ He taught me also, and said to me, Let your heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. ⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve you: love her, and she shall keep you. ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding. ⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote you: she shall bring you to honor, when you do embrace her.

¹ My son, attend to my wisdom, and bow your ear to my understanding: ² That you may regard discretion, and that your lips may keep knowledge.

³³ Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. ³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

¹² Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to the words of knowledge.

²⁵ I applied my heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness:

⁹ All this have I seen, and applied my heart to every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man rules over another to his own hurt.

¹⁶ When I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done on the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night sees sleep with his eyes:)

³ Incline your ear, and come to me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

⁵ While he yet spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear you him.

¹⁸ For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constrains me. ¹⁹ Behold, my belly is as wine which has no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.

¹⁰ More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

¹³ With my lips have I declared all the judgments of your mouth.

¹⁰³ How sweet are your words to my taste! yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

¹¹¹ Your testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

¹⁶² I rejoice at your word, as one that finds great spoil.

¹⁷¹ My lips shall utter praise, when you have taught me your statutes.

¹⁰ When wisdom enters into your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul;

¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

⁶ Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

¹³ In the lips of him that has understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

⁷ The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish does not so.

²¹ The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increases learning.

¹³ My son, eat you honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to your taste: ¹⁴ So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul: when you have found it, then there shall be a reward, and your expectation shall not be cut off.

¹¹ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

¹⁶ Your words were found, and I did eat them; and your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: for I am called by your name, O LORD God of hosts.

⁷ For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.

³⁸ He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

¹⁵ By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

⁸ Trust in him at all times; you people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

⁵ Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding.

² Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

⁴ Trust you in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

⁷ Blessed is the man that trusts in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

²¹ Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

⁶ The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

¹² I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.

¹⁵ And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: ¹⁷ That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished to all good works.

¹⁹ We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto you do well that you take heed, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: ²⁰ Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. ²¹ For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

³ It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus, ⁴ That you might know the certainty of those things, wherein you have been instructed.

³¹ But these are written, that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you might have life through his name.

¹⁵ But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

¹³ These things have I written to you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.

⁶ You shall not wrest the judgment of your poor in his cause.

¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came on me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.

¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

²¹ If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

¹⁰ Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless: ¹¹ For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with you.

²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yes, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.

¹⁰ And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

⁵ And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, said the LORD of hosts.

¹² The LORD judge between me and you, and the LORD avenge me of you: but my hand shall not be on you.

¹⁵ The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and you, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.

³⁹ And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the LORD, that has pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and has kept his servant from evil: for the LORD has returned the wickedness of Nabal on his own head. And David sent and communed with Abigail, to take her to him to wife.

¹ Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.

¹⁰ All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like to you, which deliver the poor from him that is too strong for him, yes, the poor and the needy from him that spoils him?

¹ Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation: O deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man.

⁵ A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

¹² I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.

¹¹ For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with you.

¹ Woe to you that spoil, and you were not spoiled; and deal treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with you! when you shall cease to spoil, you shall be spoiled; and when you shall make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with you.

³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

³⁶ Therefore thus said the LORD; Behold, I will plead your cause, and take vengeance for you; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry.

⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.

⁸ Because you have spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil you; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

²² An angry man stirs up strife, and a furious man abounds in transgression.

¹⁴ Be you not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion has light with darkness? ¹⁵ And what concord has Christ with Belial? or what part has he that believes with an infidel? ¹⁶ And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? for you are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ¹⁷ Why come out from among them, and be you separate, said the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

³⁵ But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.

²⁰ He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

³³ Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

¹ My son, if you be surety for your friend, if you have stricken your hand with a stranger, ² You are snared with the words of your mouth, you are taken with the words of your mouth. ³ Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, when you are come into the hand of your friend; go, humble yourself, and make sure your friend. ⁴ Give not sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids. ⁵ Deliver yourself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

¹⁵ He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hates indebtedness is sure.

¹⁸ A man void of understanding strikes hands, and becomes surety in the presence of his friend.

¹³ Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

²⁶ If you at all take your neighbor's raiment to pledge, you shall deliver it to him by that the sun goes down: ²⁷ For that is his covering only, it is his raiment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he cries to me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

¹⁶ Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

¹⁴ You shall not remove your neighbor's landmark, which they of old time have set in your inheritance, which you shall inherit in the land that the LORD your God gives you to possess it.

¹⁷ Cursed be he that removes his neighbor's landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen.

² Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof.

¹⁰ Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:

⁴⁶ And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

⁸ Happy are your men, happy are these your servants, which stand continually before you, and that hear your wisdom.

⁴ He becomes poor that deals with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

²⁴ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you go.

²¹ His lord said to him, Well done, you good and faithful servant: you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter you into the joy of your lord.

¹¹ Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

² Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine.
