¹ Be not you envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them. ² For their heart studies destruction, and their lips talk of mischief. ³ Through wisdom is an house built; and by understanding it is established: ⁴ And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. ⁵ A wise man is strong; yes, a man of knowledge increases strength. ⁶ For by wise counsel you shall make your war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety. ⁷ Wisdom is too high for a fool: he opens not his mouth in the gate. ⁸ He that devises to do evil shall be called a mischievous person. ⁹ The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men. ¹⁰ If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. ¹¹ If you forbear to deliver them that are drawn to death, and those that are ready to be slain; ¹² If you say, Behold, we knew it not; does not he that ponders the heart consider it? and he that keeps your soul, does not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works? ¹³ My son, eat you honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to your taste: ¹⁴ So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul: when you have found it, then there shall be a reward, and your expectation shall not be cut off. ¹⁵ Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place: ¹⁶ For a just man falls seven times, and rises up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief. ¹⁷ Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles: ¹⁸ Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him. ¹⁹ Fret not yourself because of evil men, neither be you envious at the wicked: ²⁰ For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out. ²¹ My son, fear you the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change: ²² For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knows the ruin of them both? ²³ These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment. ²⁴ He that said to the wicked, You are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him: ²⁵ But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come on them. ²⁶ Every man shall kiss his lips that gives a right answer. ²⁷ Prepare your work without, and make it fit for yourself in the field; and afterwards build your house. ²⁸ Be not a witness against your neighbor without cause; and deceive not with your lips. ²⁹ Say not, I will do so to him as he has done to me: I will render to the man according to his work. ³⁰ I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; ³¹ And, see, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. ³² Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked on it, and received instruction. ³³ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ³⁴ So shall your poverty come as one that travels; and your want as an armed man.

¹⁰ And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as you come to Zoar. ¹¹ Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. ¹² Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. ¹³ But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

¹ And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; ² And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and you shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, No; but we will abide in the street all night. ³ And he pressed on them greatly; and they turned in to him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat. ⁴ But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: ⁵ And they called to Lot, and said to him, Where are the men which came in to you this night? bring them out to us, that we may know them. ⁶ And Lot went out at the door to them, and shut the door after him, ⁷ And said, I pray you, brothers, do not so wickedly. ⁸ Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out to you, and do you to them as is good in your eyes: only to these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. ⁹ And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with you, than with them. And they pressed sore on the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. ¹⁰ But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door. ¹¹ And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

⁹ Gather not my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men:

¹ Fret not yourself because of evildoers, neither be you envious against the workers of iniquity.

⁷ Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass.

³ For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privately for the innocent without cause: ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: ¹³ We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: ¹⁴ Cast in your lot among us; let us all have one purse: ¹⁵ My son, walk not you in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path:

³¹ Envy you not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

²⁰ He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

¹⁷ Let not your heart envy sinners: but be you in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

¹⁹ Fret not yourself because of evil men, neither be you envious at the wicked:

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, jealousies, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ Contentions, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

⁵ Do you think that the scripture said in vain, The spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy? ⁶ But he gives more grace. Why he said, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

⁹ And David knew that Saul secretly practiced mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring here the ephod.

⁶ And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had showed him the people of Mordecai: why Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai. ⁷ In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar.

³⁵ They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepares deceit.

¹⁴ Behold, he travails with iniquity, and has conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.

⁷ His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

³ Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbors, but mischief is in their hearts.

⁴ He devises mischief on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he abhors not evil.

⁴ That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. ⁵ They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privately; they say, Who shall see them? ⁶ They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.

² Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.

¹⁴ Frowardness is in his heart, he devises mischief continually; he sows discord.

⁸ He that devises to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.

⁴ None calls for justice, nor any pleads for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.

³ That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asks, and the judge asks for a reward; and the great man, he utters his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up.

³ Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, to the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, ⁴ And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him.

²⁰ Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spoke again to them. ²¹ But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.

¹⁰ And said, O full of all subtlety and all mischief, you child of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

²⁶ And let your name be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God over Israel: and let the house of your servant David be established before you.

¹ Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn out her seven pillars:

¹ Every wise woman builds her house: but the foolish plucks it down with her hands.

¹² He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens by his discretion.

⁹ For we are laborers together with God: you are God's husbandry, you are God's building.

⁷ Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

²² And Solomon's provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and three score measures of meal, ²³ Ten fat oxen, and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and an hundred sheep, beside harts, and roebucks, and fallow deer, and fatted fowl. ²⁴ For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace on all sides round about him. ²⁵ And Judah and Israel dwelled safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon. ²⁶ And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. ²⁷ And those officers provided victual for king Solomon, and for all that came to king Solomon's table, every man in his month: they lacked nothing. ²⁸ Barley also and straw for the horses and dromedaries brought they to the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge.

²⁵ And over the king's treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jehonathan the son of Uzziah: ²⁶ And over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub: ²⁷ And over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite: over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite: ²⁸ And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the low plains was Baalhanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash: ²⁹ And over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai: ³⁰ Over the camels also was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite: ³¹ And over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagerite. All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David's.

² Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the brass for things of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, glistering stones, and of divers colors, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance. ³ Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have of my own proper good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house. ⁴ Even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses with: ⁵ The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. And who then is willing to consecrate his service this day to the LORD? ⁶ Then the chief of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king's work, offered willingly, ⁷ And gave for the service of the house of God of gold five thousand talents and ten thousand drams, and of silver ten thousand talents, and of brass eighteen thousand talents, and one hundred thousand talents of iron. ⁸ And they with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasure of the house of the LORD, by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite. ⁹ Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the LORD: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

¹⁸ Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance: for the weight of the brass could not be found out. ¹⁹ And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God, the golden altar also, and the tables where on the show bread was set; ²⁰ Moreover the candlesticks with their lamps, that they should burn after the manner before the oracle, of pure gold; ²¹ And the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs, made he of gold, and that perfect gold; ²² And the snuffers, and the basins, and the spoons, and the censers, of pure gold: and the entry of the house, the inner doors thereof for the most holy place, and the doors of the house of the temple, were of gold.

⁴ And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did. ⁵ And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper. ⁶ And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines. ⁷ And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelled in Gurbaal, and the Mehunims. ⁸ And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly. ⁹ Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them. ¹⁰ Also he built towers in the desert, and dig many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: farmers also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry. ¹¹ Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's captains.

³⁹ For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, to the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the porters, and the singers: and we will not forsake the house of our God.

⁵ And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests. ⁶ But in all this time was not I at Jerusalem: for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I to the king, and after certain days obtained I leave of the king: ⁷ And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God. ⁸ And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff to Tobiah out of the chamber. ⁹ Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers: and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat offering and the frankincense. ¹⁰ And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field. ¹¹ Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place. ¹² Then brought all Judah the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil to the treasuries. ¹³ And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute to their brothers.

²¹ That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

⁶ In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

¹⁵ There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

²⁰ There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spends it up.

²³ Be you diligent to know the state of your flocks, and look well to your herds. ²⁴ For riches are not for ever: and does the crown endure to every generation? ²⁵ The hay appears, and the tender grass shows itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered. ²⁶ The lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of the field. ²⁷ And you shall have goats' milk enough for your food, for the food of your household, and for the maintenance for your maidens.

⁵² Then said he to them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed to the kingdom of heaven is like to a man that is an householder, which brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.

⁷ They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appears before God.

¹⁴ Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

²⁹ The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

²² A wise man scales the city of the mighty, and casts down the strength of the confidence thereof.

¹⁹ Wisdom strengthens the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city.

¹⁴ There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: ¹⁵ Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. ¹⁶ Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. ¹⁷ The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that rules among fools. ¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroys much good.

³¹ But they that wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

¹¹ Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, to all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness;

¹⁴ Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

²² Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

¹⁸ Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

³¹ Or what king, going to make war against another king, sits not down first, and consults whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand?

²⁵ And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. ²⁶ I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beats the air: ²⁷ But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

¹⁰ Finally, my brothers, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. ¹¹ Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. ¹² For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. ¹³ Why take to you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. ¹⁴ Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; ¹⁵ And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; ¹⁶ Above all, taking the shield of faith, with which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. ¹⁷ And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: ¹⁸ Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; ¹⁹ And for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, ²⁰ For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

¹¹ But you, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. ¹² Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto you are also called, and have professed a good profession before many witnesses.

⁷ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

⁴ His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

⁷ When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street! ⁸ The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up. ⁹ The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth. ¹⁰ The nobles held their peace, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth. ¹¹ When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me: ¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came on me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out. ¹⁷ And I broke the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth. ¹⁸ Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand. ¹⁹ My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night on my branch. ²⁰ My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand. ²¹ To me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel. ²² After my words they spoke not again; and my speech dropped on them. ²³ And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain. ²⁴ If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down. ²⁵ I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelled as a king in the army, as one that comforts the mourners.

²¹ If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

⁵ His ways are always grievous; your judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffs at them.

⁵ O LORD, how great are your works! and your thoughts are very deep. ⁶ A brutish man knows not; neither does a fool understand this.

⁶ A scorner seeks wisdom, and finds it not: but knowledge is easy to him that understands.

²⁴ The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

²⁴ Wisdom is before him that has understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.

²² Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

⁸ Open your mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction. ⁹ Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

²¹ That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproves in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nothing.

¹⁰ They hate him that rebukes in the gate, and they abhor him that speaks uprightly.

¹² For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.

¹⁵ Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

¹⁴ But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

⁴⁴ The king said moreover to Shimei, You know all the wickedness which your heart is privy to, that you did to David my father: therefore the LORD shall return your wickedness on your own head;

¹¹ For they intended evil against you: they imagined a mischievous device, which they are not able to perform.

¹⁸ An heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

²² Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.

⁷ However, he means not so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few. ⁸ For he said, Are not my princes altogether kings? ⁹ Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus? ¹⁰ As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria; ¹¹ Shall I not, as I have done to Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols? ¹² Why it shall come to pass, that when the Lord has performed his whole work on mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks. ¹³ For he said, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:

⁷ The instruments also of the churl are evil: he devises wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaks right.

¹⁰ Thus said the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into your mind, and you shall think an evil thought: ¹¹ And you shall say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

¹¹ There is one come out of you, that imagines evil against the LORD, a wicked counselor.

³⁰ Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

⁵ And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

²¹ And the LORD smelled a sweet smell; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

¹¹³ I hate vain thoughts: but your law do I love.

¹⁰ Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yes, strife and reproach shall cease.

⁷ For as he thinks in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, said he to you; but his heart is not with you.

⁸ Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.

⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

¹⁴ O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your vain thoughts lodge within you?

²⁸ But I say to you, That whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

⁴ And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Why think you evil in your hearts?

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

²² Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

⁵ Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

¹ And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.

⁵ But now it is come on you, and you faint; it touches you, and you are troubled.

²⁸ Have you not known? have you not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, faints not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. ²⁹ He gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increases strength. ³⁰ Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: ³¹ But they that wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

⁴⁶ And lest your heart faint, and you fear for the rumor that shall be heard in the land; a rumor shall both come one year, and after that in another year shall come a rumor, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

⁸ (For his disciples were gone away to the city to buy meat.)

¹ Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

¹³ Why I desire that you faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.

³ For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest you be wearied and faint in your minds. ⁴ You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin. ⁵ And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to children, My son, despise not you the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked of him:

³ And have borne, and have patience, and for my name's sake have labored, and have not fainted.

¹³ I know your works, and where you dwell, even where Satan's seat is: and you hold fast my name, and have not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwells.

⁸ Then said Abishai to David, God has delivered your enemy into your hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray you, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time. ⁹ And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD's anointed, and be guiltless?

¹⁷ And I broke the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

⁴ Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

⁶ Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? ⁷ Is it not to deal your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor that are cast out to your house? when you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you hide not yourself from your own flesh?

³¹ And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. ³² And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

²³ And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed. ²⁴ And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required. ²⁵ And he released to them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

¹⁷ Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.

³¹ And as they went about to kill him, tidings came to the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar. ³² Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down to them: and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating of Paul.

¹⁰ And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.

²³ And he called to him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen three score and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night; ²⁴ And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe to Felix the governor. ²⁵ And he wrote a letter after this manner: ²⁶ Claudius Lysias to the most excellent governor Felix sends greeting. ²⁷ This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman. ²⁸ And when I would have known the cause why they accused him, I brought him forth into their council: ²⁹ Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds. ³⁰ And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to you, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before you what they had against him. Farewell. ³¹ Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris. ³² On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle: ³³ Who, when they came to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, presented Paul also before him. ³⁴ And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia; ³⁵ I will hear you, said he, when your accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.

¹⁶ Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. ¹⁷ But whoever has this world's good, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the love of God in him?

⁶ The LORD kills, and makes alive: he brings down to the grave, and brings up.

⁷ But the LORD said to Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.

²⁹ Yet a man is risen to pursue you, and to seek your soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD your God; and the souls of your enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling.

¹¹ For the work of a man shall he render to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.

⁹ Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God tries the hearts and reins.

³ You have proved my heart; you have visited me in the night; you have tried me, and shall find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

²¹ Shall not God search this out? for he knows the secrets of the heart.

¹² Also to you, O Lord, belongs mercy: for you render to every man according to his work.

⁹ Which holds our soul in life, and suffers not our feet to be moved.

³ He will not suffer your foot to be moved: he that keeps you will not slumber.

⁸ The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even for ever more.

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he ponders all his goings.

² Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD ponders the hearts.

⁸ If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regards; and there be higher than they.

¹⁰ I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

¹⁹ Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for your eyes are open on all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

²³ But have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine in them; and you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, have you not glorified:

²⁷ For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

²⁸ For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

⁶ Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

¹⁶ In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he has done, whether it be good or bad.

¹² For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

¹⁸ I am he that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for ever more, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

¹⁸ And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things said the Son of God, who has his eyes like to a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;

²³ And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searches the reins and hearts: and I will give to every one of you according to your works.

¹² And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. ¹³ And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. ¹⁴ And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. ¹⁵ And whoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

¹² And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

¹⁰ More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

¹⁰³ How sweet are your words to my taste! yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

¹⁶ Have you found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for you, lest you be filled therewith, and vomit it.

²⁷ It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

¹¹ Your lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under your tongue; and the smell of your garments is like the smell of Lebanon.

¹ I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yes, drink abundantly, O beloved.

¹⁵ Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

⁴ And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leather girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

¹⁰ More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. ¹¹ Moreover by them is your servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

¹¹¹ Your testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and hide my commandments with you; ² So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ Yes, if you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures; ⁵ Then shall you understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

¹⁰ When wisdom enters into your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul;

¹³ Happy is the man that finds wisdom, and the man that gets understanding. ¹⁴ For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies: and all the things you can desire are not to be compared to her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to them that lay hold on her: and happy is every one that retains her.

¹⁸ For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; they shall with be fitted in your lips.

¹⁸ For surely there is an end; and your expectation shall not be cut off.

¹⁶ Your words were found, and I did eat them; and your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: for I am called by your name, O LORD God of hosts.

²¹ Jesus said to him, If you will be perfect, go and sell that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

²⁵ But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

¹¹ And as they went up the hill to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said to them, Is the seer here?

¹⁸ And the king said to Doeg, Turn you, and fall on the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell on the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod. ¹⁹ And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

²⁰ Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of your soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king's hand. ²¹ And Saul said, Blessed be you of the LORD; for you have compassion on me. ²² Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who has seen him there: for it is told me that he deals very subtly. ²³ See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hides himself, and come you again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.

⁸ He sits in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places does he murder the innocent: his eyes are privately set against the poor. ⁹ He lies in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lies in wait to catch the poor: he does catch the poor, when he draws him into his net. ¹⁰ He crouches, and humbles himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.

³² The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him.

⁶ They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.

³ For, see, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD.

⁵ The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.

¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privately for the innocent without cause:

²⁸ Remove not the ancient landmark, which your fathers have set.

¹⁸ And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places;

¹⁹ But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

⁴ And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him.

²⁴ But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.

¹⁶ And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.

³ And desired favor against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.

¹⁰ David said furthermore, As the LORD lives, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.

⁴ Then said Saul to his armor bearer, Draw your sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armor bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell on it.

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.

¹⁹ He shall deliver you in six troubles: yes, in seven there shall no evil touch you.

¹⁶ His mischief shall return on his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down on his own pate.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivers him out of them all.

²⁴ Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholds him with his hand.

⁵ God shall likewise destroy you for ever, he shall take you away, and pluck you out of your dwelling place, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.

¹⁷ A wicked messenger falls into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death.

¹⁴ Happy is the man that fears always: but he that hardens his heart shall fall into mischief. ¹⁵ As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people. ¹⁶ The prince that wants understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hates covetousness shall prolong his days. ¹⁷ A man that does violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him. ¹⁸ Whoever walks uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

² The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken on her land; there is none to raise her up.

¹⁴ They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Your god, O Dan, lives; and, The manner of Beersheba lives; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

⁸ Rejoice not against me, O my enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light to me. ⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness. ¹⁰ Then she that is my enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her which said to me, Where is the LORD your God? my eyes shall behold her: now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

⁸ For we would not, brothers, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life: ⁹ But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raises the dead: ¹⁰ Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

⁸ We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; ⁹ Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; ¹⁰ Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. ¹¹ For we which live are always delivered to death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. ¹² So then death works in us, but life in you.

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. ²⁴ Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. ²⁵ Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; ²⁶ In journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by my own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brothers; ²⁷ In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction comes on them, as travail on a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, you heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets; for God has avenged you on her. ²¹ And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

²⁵ And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.

⁵ And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, there came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came. ⁶ And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left. ⁷ And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, you bloody man, and you man of Belial: ⁸ The LORD has returned on you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead you have reigned; and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son: and, behold, you are taken in your mischief, because you are a bloody man. ⁹ Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah to the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray you, and take off his head. ¹⁰ And the king said, What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD has said to him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Why have you done so? ¹¹ And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeks my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD has bidden him. ¹² It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day. ¹³ And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust. ¹⁴ And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.

²⁹ If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

¹⁵ But in my adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yes, the attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:

¹⁹ Let not them that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.

¹⁰ As with a sword in my bones, my enemies reproach me; while they say daily to me, Where is your God?

⁵ Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

¹² But you should not have looked on the day of your brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither should you have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

⁶ Rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; ⁷ Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

²¹ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwell in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through to you: you shall be drunken, and shall make yourself naked. ²² The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry you away into captivity: he will visit your iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover your sins.

¹⁵ And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction. ¹⁶ Therefore thus said the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, said the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth on Jerusalem.

²⁶ And he spoke to the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of their's, lest you be consumed in all their sins.

¹ Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.

⁴ I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. ⁵ I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked.

¹¹⁵ Depart from me, you evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.

¹ Be not you envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.

¹⁷ Why come out from among them, and be you separate, said the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

¹¹ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

² For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ Without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, ⁴ Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; ⁵ Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

⁴ And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues. ⁵ Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

¹⁷ How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft comes their destruction on them! God distributes sorrows in his anger.

¹⁷ The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

⁶ On the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoices: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

²⁰ Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

¹¹ Woe to the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

¹² But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁸ And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

¹³ Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

³¹ And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did on the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

¹ Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: ² And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown: ³ And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, You take too much on you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: why then lift you up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

⁵ And said to him, Behold, you are old, and your sons walk not in your ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. ⁶ But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed to the LORD. ⁷ And the LORD said to Samuel, Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you: for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

¹² And when you saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, you said to me, No; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God was your king. ¹³ Now therefore behold the king whom you have chosen, and whom you have desired! and, behold, the LORD has set a king over you. ¹⁴ If you will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both you and also the king that reigns over you continue following the LORD your God: ¹⁵ But if you will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers. ¹⁶ Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes. ¹⁷ Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call to the LORD, and he shall send thunder and rain; that you may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king. ¹⁸ So Samuel called to the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel. ¹⁹ And all the people said to Samuel, Pray for your servants to the LORD your God, that we die not: for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.

⁶ And he said to his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the LORD's anointed, to stretch forth my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.

¹³ And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom. ¹⁴ And David said to all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not else escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil on us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword. ¹⁵ And the king's servants said to the king, Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king shall appoint. ¹⁶ And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house. ¹⁷ And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and tarried in a place that was far off. ¹⁸ And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men which came after him from Gath, passed on before the king. ¹⁹ Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Why go you also with us? return to your place, and abide with the king: for you are a stranger, and also an exile. ²⁰ Whereas you came but yesterday, should I this day make you go up and down with us? seeing I go where I may, return you, and take back your brothers: mercy and truth be with you. ²¹ And Ittai answered the king, and said, As the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will your servant be. ²² And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him. ²³ And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness. ²⁴ And see Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city. ²⁵ And the king said to Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favor in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and show me both it, and his habitation: ²⁶ But if he thus say, I have no delight in you; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seems good to him. ²⁷ The king said also to Zadok the priest, Are not you a seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar. ²⁸ See, I will tarry in the plain of the wilderness, until there come word from you to certify me. ²⁹ Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God again to Jerusalem: and they tarried there. ³⁰ And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up. ³¹ And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray you, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness. ³² And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the mount, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth on his head: ³³ To whom David said, If you pass on with me, then you shall be a burden to me: ³⁴ But if you return to the city, and say to Absalom, I will be your servant, O king; as I have been your father's servant till now, so will I now also be your servant: then may you for me defeat the counsel of Ahithophel. ³⁵ And have you not there with you Zadok and Abiathar the priests? therefore it shall be, that what thing soever you shall hear out of the king's house, you shall tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests. ³⁶ Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz Zadok's son, and Jonathan Abiathar's son; and by them you shall send to me every thing that you can hear. ³⁷ So Hushai David's friend came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.

¹⁶ So when all Israel saw that the king listened not to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to your own house, David. So Israel departed to their tents.

² I counsel you to keep the king's commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God. ³ Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he does whatever pleases him. ⁴ Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say to him, What do you? ⁵ Whoever keeps the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment.

²¹ They say to him, Caesar's. Then said he to them, Render therefore to Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's.

¹ Let every soul be subject to the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. ² Whoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. ³ For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Will you then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and you shall have praise of the same: ⁴ For he is the minister of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he bears not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath on him that does evil. ⁵ Why you must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. ⁶ For for this cause pay you tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually on this very thing. ⁷ Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

¹ Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

¹³ Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; ¹⁴ Or to governors, as to them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. ¹⁵ For so is the will of God, that with well doing you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: ¹⁶ As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. ¹⁷ Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

³¹ And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split asunder that was under them: ³² And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained to Korah, and all their goods. ³³ They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed on them: and they perished from among the congregation. ³⁴ And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also. ³⁵ And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

¹ Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. ² And the Philistines followed hard on Saul and on his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Melchishua, Saul's sons. ³ And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers. ⁴ Then said Saul to his armor bearer, Draw your sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armor bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell on it. ⁵ And when his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on his sword, and died with him. ⁶ So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor bearer, and all his men, that same day together. ⁷ And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelled in them.

⁷ Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men. ⁸ For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.

¹⁶ And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand. ¹⁷ And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

¹¹ Who knows the power of your anger? even according to your fear, so is your wrath.

¹⁴ The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.

² The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoever provokes him to anger sins against his own soul.

¹¹ Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment.

¹⁰ I will be your king: where is any other that may save you in all your cities? and your judges of whom you said, Give me a king and princes? ¹¹ I gave you a king in my anger, and took him away in my wrath.

¹⁵ You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: you shall not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.

¹⁷ You shall not respect persons in judgment; but you shall hear the small as well as the great; you shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it to me, and I will hear it.

¹⁹ You shall not wrest judgment; you shall not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift does blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

⁷ Why now let the fear of the LORD be on you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

² How long will you judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. ³ Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. ⁴ Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

⁴³ Whoever is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the loving kindness of the LORD.

⁶ To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

⁵ It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

¹⁷ Bow down your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge.

²¹ To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

¹ Who is as the wise man? and who knows the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom makes his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.

⁹ Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.

²⁴ Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

²⁰ Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. ²¹ I charge you before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that you observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

⁴ Are you not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? ⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him? ⁶ But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

¹⁷ And if you call on the Father, who without respect of persons judges according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

⁶ You shall not wrest the judgment of your poor in his cause. ⁷ Keep you far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay you not: for I will not justify the wicked.

²⁶ He that withholds corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be on the head of him that sells it.

¹⁵ He that justifies the wicked, and he that comdemns the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.

²⁷ He that gives to the poor shall not lack: but he that hides his eyes shall have many a curse.

¹⁰ Accuse not a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.

²⁰ Woe to them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

²³ Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

²⁴ And they shall go forth, and look on the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring to all flesh.

And he answered, I have found you: because you have sold yourself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.

⁷ Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said to them, You exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them. ⁸ And I said to them, We after our ability have redeemed our brothers the Jews, which were sold to the heathen; and will you even sell your brothers? or shall they be sold to us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer. ⁹ Also I said, It is not good that you do: ought you not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?

⁸ And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff to Tobiah out of the chamber. ⁹ Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers: and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat offering and the frankincense. ¹⁰ And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field. ¹¹ Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place.

¹⁶ I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out. ¹⁷ And I broke the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth. ¹⁸ Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt. ⁴⁷ And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls. ⁴⁸ And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same. ⁴⁹ And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number. ⁵⁰ And to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bore to him. ⁵¹ And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, has made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house. ⁵² And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction. ⁵³ And the seven years of plenty, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended. ⁵⁴ And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread. ⁵⁵ And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; what he said to you, do. ⁵⁶ And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold to the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt. ⁵⁷ And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.

²⁵ How forcible are right words! but what does your arguing reprove?

²³ A man has joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

¹ The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.

¹¹ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. ¹² As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover on an obedient ear.

⁴⁶ Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odors to him. ⁴⁷ The king answered to Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing you could reveal this secret. ⁴⁸ Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

¹⁶ You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die. ¹¹ And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, and as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. ¹³ And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

³ And the LORD said to Satan, Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God, and eschews evil? and still he holds fast his integrity, although you moved me against him, to destroy him without cause.

⁷ For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have dig for my soul.

¹¹ False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not.

¹ Why boast you yourself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endures continually.

²⁵ But this comes to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

²⁵ Why putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.

⁹ Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds;

⁸ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

²² And Absalom spoke to his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar. ²³ And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheep shearers in Baalhazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons. ²⁴ And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, your servant has sheep shearers; let the king, I beseech you, and his servants go with your servant. ²⁵ And the king said to Absalom, No, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable to you. And he pressed him: however, he would not go, but blessed him. ²⁶ Then said Absalom, If not, I pray you, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, Why should he go with you? ²⁷ But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him. ²⁸ Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark you now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.

²² Say not you, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save you.

²¹ If your enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: ²² For you shall heap coals of fire on his head, and the LORD shall reward you.

³⁹ But I say to you, That you resist not evil: but whoever shall smite you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. ⁴⁰ And if any man will sue you at the law, and take away your coat, let him have your cloak also. ⁴¹ And whoever shall compel you to go a mile, go with him two. ⁴² Give to him that asks you, and from him that would borrow of you turn not you away. ⁴³ You have heard that it has been said, You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy. ⁴⁴ But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which spitefully use you, and persecute you;

¹⁷ Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. ¹⁸ If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men. ¹⁹ Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, said the Lord. ²⁰ Therefore if your enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing you shall heap coals of fire on his head. ²¹ Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹⁵ See that none render evil for evil to any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

⁸ Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

²⁷ See this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know you it for your good.

¹⁷ I will show you, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;

²⁵ I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

⁴² The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: ⁷ Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, ⁸ Provides her meat in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. ⁹ How long will you sleep, O sluggard? when will you arise out of your sleep? ¹⁰ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ¹¹ So shall your poverty come as one that travels, and your want as an armed man. ¹² A naughty person, a wicked man, walks with a fraudulent mouth. ¹³ He winks with his eyes, he speaks with his feet, he teaches with his fingers; ¹⁴ Frowardness is in his heart, he devises mischief continually; he sows discord. ¹⁵ Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. ¹⁶ These six things does the LORD hate: yes, seven are an abomination to him: ¹⁷ A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, ¹⁸ An heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, ¹⁹ A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brothers.

³² But whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding: he that does it destroys his own soul.

¹³ In the lips of him that has understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

¹¹ He that tills his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that follows vain persons is void of understanding.

¹ So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter. ² Why I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive. ³ Yes, better is he than both they, which has not yet been, who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun. ⁴ Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbor. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit. ⁵ The fool folds his hands together, and eats his own flesh. ⁶ Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit. ⁷ Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun. ⁸ There is one alone, and there is not a second; yes, he has neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labor; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither said he, For whom do I labor, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yes, it is a sore travail.

¹⁵ All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongs his life in his wickedness.

⁹ All this have I seen, and applied my heart to every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man rules over another to his own hurt. ¹⁰ And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity. ¹¹ Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

¹⁷ And to Adam he said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life; ¹⁸ Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to you; and you shall eat the herb of the field; ¹⁹ In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread, till you return to the ground; for out of it were you taken: for dust you are, and to dust shall you return.

⁴⁰ Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

²³ The fear of the LORD tends to life: and he that has it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

⁴ The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

¹³ The slothful man said, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

²¹ For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

¹⁸ By much slothfulness the building decays; and through idleness of the hands the house drops through.

⁵ And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:

³ For thus said the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

⁷ And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:

²² He also that received seed among the thorns is he that hears the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

⁸ But that which bears thorns and briers is rejected, and is near to cursing; whose end is to be burned.

¹¹ And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

²¹ And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shall you put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

²⁹ O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!

¹⁷ What is man, that you should magnify him? and that you should set your heart on him?

⁴ Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart on your bed, and be still. Selah.

¹⁹ But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

⁵¹ And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

⁶ Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

¹¹ Now all these things happened to them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the world are come.

⁵ I will therefore put you in remembrance, though you once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. ⁶ And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness to the judgment of the great day. ⁷ Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

¹¹ And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

¹⁴ Why he said, Awake you that sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.

⁶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. ⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

⁴ He becomes poor that deals with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

⁴ The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
