¹ Οἴδαμεν (We know) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) ἐὰν (if) ἡ (-) ἐπίγειος (earthly) ἡμῶν (of us) οἰκία (house), τοῦ (the) σκήνους (tent), καταλυθῇ (should be destroyed), οἰκοδομὴν (a building) ἐκ (from) Θεοῦ (God) ἔχομεν (we have), οἰκίαν (a house) ἀχειροποίητον (not made with hands), αἰώνιον (eternal) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens).

⁵⁸ “Ὅτι (-) Ἡμεῖς (We) ἠκούσαμεν (heard) αὐτοῦ (Him) λέγοντος (saying) ὅτι (-), ‘Ἐγὼ (I) καταλύσω (will destroy) τὸν (the) ναὸν (temple) τοῦτον (this), τὸν (the one) χειροποίητον (made with hands), καὶ (and) διὰ (in) τριῶν (three) ἡμερῶν (days) ἄλλον (another), ἀχειροποίητον (not made with hands), οἰκοδομήσω (I will build).’”

² ἐν (In) τῇ (the) οἰκίᾳ (house) τοῦ (of the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me), μοναὶ (mansions) πολλαί (many) εἰσιν (there are); εἰ (if) δὲ (now) μή (not), εἶπον (would I have told) ἂν (-) ὑμῖν (you) ὅτι (that) πορεύομαι (I go) ἑτοιμάσαι (to prepare) τόπον (a place) ὑμῖν (for you)? ³ καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) πορευθῶ (I go) καὶ (and) ἑτοιμάσω (prepare) τόπον (a place) ὑμῖν (for you), πάλιν (again) ἔρχομαι (I am coming) καὶ (and) παραλήμψομαι (will receive) ὑμᾶς (you) πρὸς (to) ἐμαυτόν (Myself), ἵνα (that) ὅπου (where) εἰμὶ (am) ἐγὼ (I), καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) ἦτε (may be).

⁹ Θεοῦ (Of God) γάρ (for) ἐσμεν (we are) συνεργοί (fellow workers); Θεοῦ (God’s) γεώργιον (field), Θεοῦ (God’s) οἰκοδομή (building) ἐστε (you are).

⁴⁶ Ἀλλ’ (However) οὐ (not) πρῶτον (first was) τὸ (the) πνευματικὸν (spiritual), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (the) ψυχικόν (natural), ἔπειτα (then) τὸ (the) πνευματικόν (spiritual). ⁴⁷ ὁ (The) πρῶτος (first) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἐκ (was from) γῆς (the earth), χοϊκός (made of dust); ὁ (the) δεύτερος (second) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἐξ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven). ⁴⁸ οἷος (As) ὁ (the one) χοϊκός (made of dust), τοιοῦτοι (so) καὶ (also are) οἱ (those) χοϊκοί (of the earth); καὶ (and) οἷος (as) ὁ (the) ἐπουράνιος (heavenly one), τοιοῦτοι (so) καὶ (also) οἱ (those) ἐπουράνιοι (of heaven).

⁷ Ἔχομεν (We have) δὲ (now) τὸν (the) θησαυρὸν (treasure) τοῦτον (this) ἐν (in) ὀστρακίνοις (earthen) σκεύεσιν (vessels), ἵνα (that) ἡ (the) ὑπερβολὴ (surpassingness) τῆς (of the) δυνάμεως (power) ᾖ (may be) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (from God), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἐξ (from) ἡμῶν (us),

⁴ καὶ (And) γὰρ (for), οἱ (-) ὄντες (being) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) σκήνει (tent), στενάζομεν (we groan), βαρούμενοι (being burdened), ἐφ’ (because) ᾧ (that) οὐ (not) θέλομεν (we do wish) ἐκδύσασθαι (to be unclothed) ἀλλ’ (but) ἐπενδύσασθαι (to be clothed), ἵνα (that) καταποθῇ (may be swallowed up) τὸ (the) θνητὸν (mortal) ὑπὸ (by) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (life).

¹¹ ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) καὶ (also) περιετμήθητε (you were circumcised) περιτομῇ (with the circumcision) ἀχειροποιήτῳ (made without hands), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀπεκδύσει (removal) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body) τῆς (of the) σαρκός (flesh), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) περιτομῇ (circumcision) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ),

¹² Δι’ (For) ἣν (this) αἰτίαν (reason) καὶ (also) ταῦτα (these things) πάσχω (I suffer). ἀλλ’ (But) οὐκ (not) ἐπαισχύνομαι (I am ashamed); οἶδα (I know) γὰρ (for) ᾧ (whom) πεπίστευκα (I have believed), καὶ (and) πέπεισμαι (I am persuaded) ὅτι (that) δυνατός (able) ἐστιν (He is) τὴν (the) παραθήκην (deposit entrusted) μου (of me) φυλάξαι (to guard) εἰς (for) ἐκείνην (that) τὴν (-) ἡμέραν (day).

¹¹ Χριστὸς (Christ) δὲ (however), παραγενόμενος (having appeared as) ἀρχιερεὺς (high priest) τῶν (of the) γενομένων (having come) ἀγαθῶν (good things), διὰ (by) τῆς (the) μείζονος (greater) καὶ (and) τελειοτέρας (more perfect) σκηνῆς (tabernacle) οὐ (not) χειροποιήτου (made by hands), τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is), οὐ (not) ταύτης (of this) τῆς (-) κτίσεως (creation),

²⁴ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) εἰς (into) χειροποίητα (made by hands) εἰσῆλθεν (has entered) ἅγια (holy places) Χριστός (Christ), ἀντίτυπα (copies) τῶν (of the) ἀληθινῶν (true ones), ἀλλ’ (but) εἰς (into) αὐτὸν (itself) τὸν (-) οὐρανόν (heaven), νῦν (now) ἐμφανισθῆναι (to appear) τῷ (in the) προσώπῳ (presence) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ὑπὲρ (for) ἡμῶν (us),

¹⁰ ἐξεδέχετο (He was awaiting) γὰρ (for) τὴν (the) τοὺς (-) θεμελίους (foundations) ἔχουσαν (having) πόλιν (city), ἧς (of which) τεχνίτης (the architect) καὶ (and) δημιουργὸς (builder is) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).

⁴ εἰς (to) κληρονομίαν (an inheritance) ἄφθαρτον (imperishable) καὶ (and) ἀμίαντον (undefiled) καὶ (and) ἀμάραντον (unfading), τετηρημένην (being reserved) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens) εἰς (for) ὑμᾶς (you),

¹³ δίκαιον (Right) δὲ (now) ἡγοῦμαι (I esteem it), ἐφ’ (as) ὅσον (long as) εἰμὶ (I am) ἐν (in) τούτῳ (this) τῷ (-) σκηνώματι (tabernacle), διεγείρειν (to stir up) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐν (by) ὑπομνήσει (putting you in remembrance), ¹⁴ εἰδὼς (knowing) ὅτι (that) ταχινή (impending) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) ἀπόθεσις (putting off) τοῦ (of the) σκηνώματός (tabernacle) μου (of me), καθὼς (as) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἐδήλωσέν (has made clear) μοι (to me).

¹¹ Τούτων (These things) οὕτως (in this way) πάντων (all) λυομένων (being dissolved), ποταποὺς (what kind) δεῖ (ought) ὑπάρχειν (to be) ὑμᾶς (you)? ἐν (In) ἁγίαις (holy) ἀναστροφαῖς (conduct) καὶ (and) εὐσεβείαις (godliness),

² Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), νῦν (now) τέκνα (children) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐσμεν (are we), καὶ (and) οὔπω (not yet) ἐφανερώθη (has been revealed) τί (what) ἐσόμεθα (we will be). οἴδαμεν (We know) ὅτι (that) ἐὰν (when) φανερωθῇ (He appears), ὅμοιοι (like) αὐτῷ (Him) ἐσόμεθα (we will be), ὅτι (for) ὀψόμεθα (we will see) αὐτὸν (Him) καθώς (as) ἐστιν (He is).

¹⁴ Ἡμεῖς (We) οἴδαμεν (know) ὅτι (that) μεταβεβήκαμεν (we have passed) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (death) εἰς (to) τὴν (-) ζωήν (life), ὅτι (because) ἀγαπῶμεν (we love) τοὺς (our) ἀδελφούς (brothers). ὁ (The one) μὴ (not) ἀγαπῶν (loving) μένει (abides) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) θανάτῳ (death).

¹⁹ [καὶ] (And) ἐν (by) τούτῳ (this) γνωσόμεθα (we will know) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) ἀληθείας (truth) ἐσμέν (we are), καὶ (and) ἔμπροσθεν (before) αὐτοῦ (Him) πείσομεν (we will assure) τὴν (the) καρδίαν (heart) ἡμῶν (of us),

¹⁹ οἴδαμεν (We know) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐσμεν (we are), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) ὅλος (whole), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πονηρῷ (evil one) κεῖται (lies). ²⁰ οἴδαμεν (We know) δὲ (now) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἥκει (is come), καὶ (and) δέδωκεν (has given) ἡμῖν (us) διάνοιαν (understanding), ἵνα (so that) γινώσκωμεν* (we may know) τὸν (Him who is) ἀληθινόν (true); καὶ (and) ἐσμὲν (we are) ἐν (in) τῷ (Him who is) ἀληθινῷ (true), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) Υἱῷ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστῷ (Christ). οὗτός (He) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ἀληθινὸς (true) Θεὸς (God) καὶ (and) ζωὴ (life) αἰώνιος (eternal).
