¹¹ Ἐγὼ (I) δέ (now), ἀδελφοί (brothers), εἰ (if) περιτομὴν (circumcision) ἔτι (still) κηρύσσω (proclaim), τί (why) ἔτι (still) διώκομαι (am I persecuted)? ἄρα (In that case) κατήργηται (has been abolished) τὸ (the) σκάνδαλον (offense) τοῦ (of the) σταυροῦ (cross).

³ τοῦτον (This one) ἠθέλησεν (wanted) ὁ (-) Παῦλος (Paul) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (him) ἐξελθεῖν (to go forth), καὶ (and) λαβὼν (having taken), περιέτεμεν (he circumcised) αὐτὸν (him) διὰ (on account of) τοὺς (the) Ἰουδαίους (Jews) τοὺς (-) ὄντας (being) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) τόποις (parts) ἐκείνοις (those); ᾔδεισαν (they knew) γὰρ (for) ἅπαντες (all) ὅτι (that) Ἕλλην (a Greek) ὁ (the) πατὴρ (father) αὐτοῦ (of him) ὑπῆρχεν (was).

²¹ κατηχήθησαν (They have been informed) δὲ (now) περὶ (about) σοῦ (you), ὅτι (that) ἀποστασίαν (apostasy) διδάσκεις (you teach), ἀπὸ (from) Μωϋσέως (Moses), τοὺς (those) κατὰ (among) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles) πάντας (all) Ἰουδαίους (Jews), λέγων (telling) μὴ (not) περιτέμνειν (to circumcise) αὐτοὺς (them) τὰ (the) τέκνα (children), μηδὲ (nor) τοῖς (in the) ἔθεσιν (customs) περιπατεῖν (to walk).

²⁸ κράζοντες (crying out), “Ἄνδρες (Men), Ἰσραηλῖται (Israelites), βοηθεῖτε (help)! οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) ὁ (who) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (the) λαοῦ (people) καὶ (and) τοῦ (the) νόμου (law) καὶ (and) τοῦ (the) τόπου (place) τούτου (this) πάντας (all those) πανταχῇ (everywhere) διδάσκων (teaching); ἔτι (besides) τε (and) καὶ (also) Ἕλληνας (Greeks) εἰσήγαγεν (he has brought) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ἱερὸν (temple) καὶ (and) κεκοίνωκεν (defiled) τὸν (the) ἅγιον (holy) τόπον (place) τοῦτον (this).”

²¹ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) πρός (to) με (me), ‘Πορεύου (Go), ὅτι (for) ἐγὼ (I) εἰς (to) ἔθνη (the Gentiles) μακρὰν (far away) ἐξαποστελῶ (will send) σε (you).’” ²² Ἤκουον (They were listening) δὲ (now) αὐτοῦ (to him) ἄχρι (until) τούτου (this) τοῦ (-) λόγου (word), καὶ (and) ἐπῆραν (they lifted up) τὴν (the) φωνὴν (voice) αὐτῶν (of them), λέγοντες (saying), “Αἶρε (Away with) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), τὸν (the) τοιοῦτον (such). οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) καθῆκεν (it is fit) αὐτὸν (he) ζῆν (to live)!”

¹³ ἦσαν (There were) δὲ (now) πλείους (more than) τεσσεράκοντα (forty), οἱ (-) ταύτην (this) τὴν (-) συνωμοσίαν (plot) ποιησάμενοι (having made), ¹⁴ οἵτινες (who), προσελθόντες (having come) τοῖς (to the) ἀρχιερεῦσιν (chief priests) καὶ (and) τοῖς (the) πρεσβυτέροις (elders), εἶπαν (said), “Ἀναθέματι (With an oath) ἀνεθεματίσαμεν (we have bound) ἑαυτοὺς (ourselves), μηδενὸς (nothing) γεύσασθαι (to eat) ἕως (until) οὗ (that) ἀποκτείνωμεν (we should kill) τὸν (-) Παῦλον (Paul).

³² διὰ (Because of) τί (why)? ὅτι (Because it was) οὐκ (not) ἐκ (by) πίστεως (faith), ἀλλ’ (but) ὡς (as) ἐξ (by) ἔργων (works). προσέκοψαν (They stumbled) τῷ (over the) λίθῳ (stone) τοῦ (-) προσκόμματος (of stumbling), ³³ καθὼς (as) γέγραπται (it has been written): “Ἰδοὺ (Behold) τίθημι (I lay) ἐν (in) Σιὼν (Zion) λίθον (a stone) προσκόμματος (of stumbling), καὶ (and) πέτραν (a rock) σκανδάλου (of offense); καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) πιστεύων (believing) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτῷ (Him), οὐ (never) καταισχυνθήσεται (will be put to shame).”

¹⁸ Ὁ (The) λόγος (message) γὰρ (for) ὁ (-) τοῦ (of the) σταυροῦ (cross), τοῖς (to those) μὲν (indeed) ἀπολλυμένοις (perishing) μωρία (foolishness) ἐστίν (is); τοῖς (those) δὲ (however) σῳζομένοις (being saved), ἡμῖν (to us), δύναμις (power) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐστιν (it is).

²³ ἡμεῖς (we) δὲ (however) κηρύσσομεν (preach) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἐσταυρωμένον (having been crucified), Ἰουδαίοις (to the Jewish) μὲν (indeed) σκάνδαλον (a stumbling block), ἔθνεσιν (to Gentiles) δὲ (now) μωρίαν (foolishness);

³⁰ τί (Why) καὶ (also), ἡμεῖς (we) κινδυνεύομεν (are in danger) πᾶσαν (every) ὥραν (hour)?

²³ διάκονοι (Servants) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) εἰσιν (are they)? παραφρονῶν (As being beside myself) λαλῶ (I speak) ὑπὲρ (above measure): ἐγώ (I too), ἐν (in) κόποις (labors) περισσοτέρως (more abundantly), ἐν (in) φυλακαῖς (imprisonments) περισσοτέρως (more abundantly), ἐν (in) πληγαῖς (beatings) ὑπερβαλλόντως (above measure), ἐν (in) θανάτοις (deaths) πολλάκις (often). ²⁴ Ὑπὸ (From) Ἰουδαίων (the Jews) πεντάκις (five times) τεσσεράκοντα (forty lashes) παρὰ (minus) μίαν (one) ἔλαβον (I received). ²⁵ τρὶς (Three times) ἐραβδίσθην (I was beaten with rods), ἅπαξ (once) ἐλιθάσθην (I was stoned), τρὶς (three times) ἐναυάγησα (I was shipwrecked), νυχθήμερον (a night and a day) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) βυθῷ (deep sea) πεποίηκα (I have passed); ²⁶ ὁδοιπορίαις (in journeyings) πολλάκις (often), κινδύνοις (in perils) ποταμῶν (of rivers), κινδύνοις (in perils) λῃστῶν (of robbers); κινδύνοις (in perils) ἐκ (from my own) γένους (race), κινδύνοις (in perils) ἐξ (from) ἐθνῶν (the Gentiles); κινδύνοις (in perils) ἐν (in) πόλει (the city), κινδύνοις (in perils) ἐν (in) ἐρημίᾳ (the wilderness); κινδύνοις (in perils) ἐν (on) θαλάσσῃ (the sea), κινδύνοις (in perils) ἐν (among) ψευδαδέλφοις (false brothers);

³ ἀλλ’ (But) οὐδὲ (not even) Τίτος (Titus) ὁ (who was) σὺν (with) ἐμοί (me), Ἕλλην (a Greek) ὤν (being), ἠναγκάσθη (was compelled) περιτμηθῆναι (to be circumcised),

²⁹ ἀλλ’ (But) ὥσπερ (just as) τότε (at that time) ὁ (the one) κατὰ (according to) σάρκα (flesh) γεννηθεὶς (having been born) ἐδίωκεν (was persecuting) τὸν (the one born) κατὰ (according to) Πνεῦμα (Spirit), οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) νῦν (it is now).

¹² Ὅσοι (As many as) θέλουσιν (wish) εὐπροσωπῆσαι (to have a fair appearance) ἐν (in) σαρκί (the flesh), οὗτοι (these) ἀναγκάζουσιν (compel) ὑμᾶς (you) περιτέμνεσθαι (to be circumcised), μόνον (only) ἵνα (that) τῷ (for the) σταυρῷ (cross) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) μὴ (not) διώκωνται (they might be persecuted).

¹⁷ Τοῦ (The) λοιποῦ (henceforth), κόπους (troubles) μοι (to me) μηδεὶς (no one) παρεχέτω (let give); ἐγὼ (I) γὰρ (for) τὰ (the) στίγματα (marks) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) ἐν (on) τῷ (of the) σώματί (body) μου (of me) βαστάζω (bear).

⁸ Καὶ (and), “Λίθος (A stone) προσκόμματος (of stumbling) καὶ (and) πέτρα (a rock) σκανδάλου (of offense).” Οἳ (They) προσκόπτουσιν (stumble at), τῷ (to the) λόγῳ (word) ἀπειθοῦντες (being disobedient), εἰς (to) ὃ (which) καὶ (also) ἐτέθησαν (they were appointed). ⁹ Ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however) γένος (are a race) ἐκλεκτόν (chosen), βασίλειον (a royal) ἱεράτευμα (priesthood), ἔθνος (a nation) ἅγιον (holy), λαὸς (a people) εἰς (for His) περιποίησιν (possession), ὅπως (so that) τὰς (the) ἀρετὰς (excellencies) ἐξαγγείλητε (you may proclaim) τοῦ (of the One) ἐκ (out of) σκότους (darkness) ὑμᾶς (you) καλέσαντος (having called), εἰς (to) τὸ (the) θαυμαστὸν (marvelous) αὐτοῦ (of Him) φῶς (light),
