²⁰ Καὶ (And) ἕτερος (another) εἶπεν (said), ‘Γυναῖκα (A wife) ἔγημα (I have married), καὶ (and) διὰ (because of) τοῦτο (this) οὐ (not) δύναμαι (I am able) ἐλθεῖν (to come).’

²⁶ “Εἴ (If) τις (anyone) ἔρχεται (comes) πρός (to) με (Me), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) μισεῖ (hates) τὸν (the) πατέρα (father) ἑαυτοῦ* (of himself) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) μητέρα (mother) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (wife) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) τέκνα (children) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ἀδελφοὺς (brothers) καὶ (and) τὰς (the) ἀδελφάς (sisters), ἔτι (yes), τε (and) καὶ (even) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) ἑαυτοῦ (of him), οὐ (not) δύναται (he is able) εἶναί (to be) μου (of Me) μαθητής (disciple). ²⁷ ὅστις (Whoever) οὐ (not) βαστάζει (carries) τὸν (the) σταυρὸν (cross) ἑαυτοῦ (of himself) καὶ (and) ἔρχεται (comes) ὀπίσω (after) μου (Me), οὐ (not) δύναται (is able) εἶναί (to be) μου (My) μαθητής (disciple). ²⁸ Τίς (Which) γὰρ (for) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you), θέλων (desiring) πύργον (a tower) οἰκοδομῆσαι (to build), οὐχὶ (not) πρῶτον (first) καθίσας (having sat down), ψηφίζει (counts) τὴν (the) δαπάνην (cost), εἰ (whether) ἔχει (he has) εἰς (for) ἀπαρτισμόν (its completion)?

²⁹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) οὐδείς (no one) ἐστιν (there is) ὃς (who) ἀφῆκεν (has left) οἰκίαν (house) ἢ (or) γυναῖκα (wife) ἢ (or) ἀδελφοὺς (brothers) ἢ (or) γονεῖς (parents) ἢ (or) τέκνα (children) ἕνεκεν (for the sake of) τῆς (the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ³⁰ ὃς (who) οὐχὶ (no) μὴ (nothing) ἀπολάβῃ* (shall receive) πολλαπλασίονα (manifold more) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) καιρῷ (time) τούτῳ (this) — καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) αἰῶνι (age) τῷ (that) ἐρχομένῳ (is coming), ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal).”

²⁹ Τοῦτο (This) δέ (now) φημι (I say), ἀδελφοί (brothers): ὁ (The) καιρὸς (season) συνεσταλμένος (shortened) ἐστίν (is). τὸ (-) λοιπὸν (From now on) ἵνα (that) καὶ (both) οἱ (those) ἔχοντες (having) γυναῖκας (wives), ὡς (as) μὴ (none) ἔχοντες (having) ὦσιν (should be); ³⁰ καὶ (and) οἱ (those) κλαίοντες (weeping), ὡς (as) μὴ (not) κλαίοντες (weeping); καὶ (and) οἱ (those) χαίροντες (rejoicing), ὡς (as) μὴ (not) χαίροντες (rejoicing); καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἀγοράζοντες (buying), ὡς (as) μὴ (not) κατέχοντες (possessing); ³¹ καὶ (and) οἱ (those) χρώμενοι (using) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world), ὡς (as) μὴ (not) καταχρώμενοι (using it as their own). παράγει (Is passing away) γὰρ (for) τὸ (the) σχῆμα (present form) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (this).

³³ ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) γαμήσας (having been married), μεριμνᾷ (cares for) τὰ (the things) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world), πῶς (how) ἀρέσῃ (he should please) τῇ (the) γυναικί (wife),
