⁵⁸ ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Πέτρος (Peter) ἠκολούθει (was following) αὐτῷ (Him) ἀπὸ (from) μακρόθεν (afar), ἕως (even) τῆς (to the) αὐλῆς (court) τοῦ (of the) ἀρχιερέως (high priest). καὶ (And) εἰσελθὼν (having entered) ἔσω (within), ἐκάθητο (he was sitting) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ὑπηρετῶν (guards) ἰδεῖν (to see) τὸ (the) τέλος (outcome).

⁶⁹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Πέτρος (Peter) ἐκάθητο (was sitting) ἔξω (outside) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) αὐλῇ (court), καὶ (and) προσῆλθεν (came) αὐτῷ (to him) μία (one) παιδίσκη (servant girl), λέγουσα (saying), “Καὶ (Also) σὺ (You) ἦσθα (were) μετὰ (with) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τοῦ (the) Γαλιλαίου (Galilean).” ⁷⁰ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἠρνήσατο (he denied) ἔμπροσθεν (before) πάντων (all), λέγων (saying), “Οὐκ (Not) οἶδα (I know) τί (what) λέγεις (you say).” ⁷¹ Ἐξελθόντα (Having gone out) δὲ (then) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) πυλῶνα (porch), εἶδεν (saw) αὐτὸν (him) ἄλλη (another servant girl), καὶ (and) λέγει (says) τοῖς (to those) ἐκεῖ (there), “Οὗτος (This man) ἦν (was) μετὰ (with) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τοῦ (of) Ναζωραίου (Nazareth).” ⁷² Καὶ (And) πάλιν (again) ἠρνήσατο (he denied) μετὰ (with) ὅρκου (an oath) ὅτι (-), “Οὐκ (Not) οἶδα (I know) τὸν (the) ἄνθρωπον (man).” ⁷³ Μετὰ (After) μικρὸν (a little while), δὲ (also) προσελθόντες (having come to him) οἱ (those) ἑστῶτες (standing by), εἶπον (they said) τῷ (-) Πέτρῳ (to Peter), “Ἀληθῶς (Surely) καὶ (also) σὺ (you) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) εἶ (are), καὶ (even) γὰρ (for) ἡ (the) λαλιά (speech) σου (of you) δῆλόν (away) σε (you) ποιεῖ (gives).” ⁷⁴ Τότε (Then) ἤρξατο (he began) καταθεματίζειν (to curse) καὶ (and) ὀμνύειν (to swear) ὅτι (-), “Οὐκ (Not) οἶδα (I know) τὸν (the) ἄνθρωπον (man)!” Καὶ (And) εὐθέως* (immediately) ἀλέκτωρ (a rooster) ἐφώνησεν (crowed). ⁷⁵ Καὶ (And) ἐμνήσθη (remembered) ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) τοῦ (the) ῥήματος (word) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus), εἰρηκότος (He having said) ὅτι (-), “Πρὶν (Before the) ἀλέκτορα (rooster) φωνῆσαι (crowing), τρὶς (three times) ἀπαρνήσῃ (you will deny) με (Me).” καὶ (And) ἐξελθὼν (having gone) ἔξω (out), ἔκλαυσεν (he wept) πικρῶς (bitterly).

⁵⁴ καὶ (And) ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) ἀπὸ (from) μακρόθεν (afar off) ἠκολούθησεν (followed) αὐτῷ (Him), ἕως (as far as) ἔσω (within) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) αὐλὴν (court) τοῦ (of the) ἀρχιερέως (high priest); καὶ (and) ἦν (he was) συνκαθήμενος (sitting) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ὑπηρετῶν (officers) καὶ (and) θερμαινόμενος (warming himself) πρὸς (at) τὸ (the) φῶς (fire).

⁵⁵ Περιαψάντων (They having kindled) δὲ (then) πῦρ (a fire) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) τῆς (of the) αὐλῆς (courtyard), καὶ (and) συνκαθισάντων (having sat down together), ἐκάθητο (was sitting) ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) μέσος (among) αὐτῶν (them). ⁵⁶ ἰδοῦσα (Having seen) δὲ (then) αὐτὸν (him) παιδίσκη (a servant girl) τις (certain) καθήμενον (sitting) πρὸς (by) τὸ (the) φῶς (light), καὶ (and) ἀτενίσασα (having looked intently on) αὐτῷ (him), εἶπεν (she said), “Καὶ (Also) οὗτος (this one) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (Him) ἦν (was).” ⁵⁷ Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) ἠρνήσατο (he denied it), λέγων (saying), “Οὐκ (Not) οἶδα (I do know) αὐτόν (Him), γύναι (woman).” ⁵⁸ Καὶ (And) μετὰ (after) βραχὺ (a little), ἕτερος (another) ἰδὼν (having seen) αὐτὸν (him), ἔφη (was saying), “Καὶ (Also) σὺ (you) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) εἶ (are).” Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Πέτρος (Peter) ἔφη (was saying), “Ἄνθρωπε (Man), οὐκ (not) εἰμί (I am).” ⁵⁹ Καὶ (And) διαστάσης (having elapsed) ὡσεὶ (about) ὥρας (hour) μιᾶς (one), ἄλλος (other) τις (a certain) διϊσχυρίζετο (strongly affirmed it), λέγων (saying), “Ἐπ’ (Of) ἀληθείας (a truth), καὶ (also) οὗτος (this one) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him) ἦν (was); καὶ (also) γὰρ (for) Γαλιλαῖός (a Galilean) ἐστιν (he is).” ⁶⁰ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (however) ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter), “Ἄνθρωπε (Man), οὐκ (not) οἶδα (I know) ὃ (what) λέγεις (you say).” καὶ (And) παραχρῆμα (immediately) ἔτι (while) λαλοῦντος (he was speaking) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἐφώνησεν (crowed) ἀλέκτωρ (the rooster). ⁶¹ καὶ (And) στραφεὶς (having turned), ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἐνέβλεψεν (looked at) τῷ (-) Πέτρῳ (Peter), καὶ (and) ὑπεμνήσθη (remembered) ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) τοῦ (the) λόγου (word) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord), ὡς (how) εἶπεν (He had said) αὐτῷ (to him) ὅτι (-), “Πρὶν (Before) ἀλέκτορα (the rooster) φωνῆσαι (crows) σήμερον (today), ἀπαρνήσῃ (you will deny) με (Me) τρίς (three times).” ⁶² καὶ (And) ἐξελθὼν (having gone forth) ἔξω (outside), ἔκλαυσεν (he wept) πικρῶς (bitterly).

¹⁵ Ἠκολούθει (Were following) δὲ (now) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter) καὶ (and) ἄλλος (the other) μαθητής (disciple). ὁ (Since) δὲ (now) μαθητὴς (disciple) ἐκεῖνος (that) ἦν (was) γνωστὸς (known) τῷ (to the) ἀρχιερεῖ (high priest), καὶ (also) συνεισῆλθεν (he entered with) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) αὐλὴν (court) τοῦ (of the) ἀρχιερέως (high priest). ¹⁶ ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Πέτρος (Peter) εἱστήκει (stood) πρὸς (at) τῇ (the) θύρᾳ (door) ἔξω (outside). ἐξῆλθεν (Went out) οὖν (therefore) ὁ (the) μαθητὴς (disciple) ὁ (-) ἄλλος (other), ὁ (who was) γνωστὸς (known) τοῦ (to the) ἀρχιερέως (high priest), καὶ (and) εἶπεν (spoke) τῇ (to the) θυρωρῷ (doorkeeper), καὶ (and) εἰσήγαγεν (brought in) τὸν (-) Πέτρον (Peter). ¹⁷ Λέγει (Says) οὖν (therefore) τῷ (-) Πέτρῳ (to Peter) ἡ (the) παιδίσκη (servant girl), ἡ (the) θυρωρός (doorkeeper), “Μὴ (Not) καὶ (also) σὺ (you) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) μαθητῶν (disciples) εἶ (are) τοῦ (of the) ἀνθρώπου (man) τούτου (this)?” Λέγει (Says) ἐκεῖνος (he), “Οὐκ (Not) εἰμί (I am).” ¹⁸ Εἱστήκεισαν (Were standing) δὲ (now) οἱ (the) δοῦλοι (servants) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ὑπηρέται (officers), ἀνθρακιὰν (a fire of coals) πεποιηκότες (having made), ὅτι (for) ψῦχος (cold) ἦν (it was) καὶ (and) ἐθερμαίνοντο (they were warming themselves). ἦν (Was) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them) ἑστὼς (standing) καὶ (and) θερμαινόμενος (warming himself).

²⁵ Ἦν (Was) δὲ (now) Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter) ἑστὼς (standing) καὶ (and) θερμαινόμενος (warming himself). εἶπον (They said) οὖν (therefore) αὐτῷ (to him), “Μὴ (Not) καὶ (also) σὺ (you) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) μαθητῶν (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἶ (are)?” Ἠρνήσατο (Denied) ἐκεῖνος (he) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said), “Οὐκ (Not) εἰμί (I am).” ²⁶ Λέγει (Says) εἷς (one) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) δούλων (servants) τοῦ (of the) ἀρχιερέως (high priest), συγγενὴς (kinsman) ὢν (being of him) οὗ (of whom) ἀπέκοψεν (had cut off) Πέτρος (Peter) τὸ (the) ὠτίον (ear), “Οὐκ (Not) ἐγώ (I) σε (you) εἶδον (saw) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κήπῳ (garden) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him)?” ²⁷ Πάλιν (Again) οὖν (then) ἠρνήσατο (denied) Πέτρος (Peter), καὶ (and) εὐθέως (immediately) ἀλέκτωρ (a rooster) ἐφώνησεν (crowed).
